I received a PM from Angus this morning, I'm copying and pasting it here so you can read it below.

"Since we currently have no ETA on the social group forums fix, would you like me to password protect your Christian Vapers forum? I could add a password that members would need to enter in order to be able to view the forum. This works just like signing in to the forum, once you enter the password, the "cookie" stored on your computer would remember it until you cleared it from your browser.

The downside is that you would need to let your members know the new password, and that might take quite a few PMs, but it would keep non-members out.

Let me know what you think.

-Angus"

Since this affects all of us, I want everyone to vote on it. But, understand the pros and the cons first. Nobody, except for people that have the password, will be able to read this forum or comment.

Pros- No more disruption from people who just want to troll here.

Cons- There are over 200 members in this group, and I won't send out over 200 private messages to all of the members to notify them of the password arrangement. It's just too time consuming for me. So, the only people that would know the password is everyone that is currently posting, or members who PM me later and ask for it.

Another con would be that although we won't have disruption, we also won't have people be able to find us to ask questions. Is this really want we want to do?

So, feel free to add to this pro and con list and let's vote on it. I want to hear your thoughts and opinions on this.

It's a secret!
Angus is in a bad position because there are people complaining about being able to see this forum. The choice right now is essentially for people who don't want to view this forum among the list in "new/today's posts" to just not click on our discussions (and those in the Outside) or for us to possibly do this labor intensive password thing.

...

I find it pretty easy to just not click on stuff that I know I don't want to read, so that seems like the simplest option for everyone. I appreciate the out of the box thinking, but I don't think the password option is really the best solution for anyone.

Yea, I might be wrong, but I don't think they are related issues. Angus is working on taking our posts out of the "today's posts" list so it wont be a problem. Atleast that's what I read. Funny thing is, when I click on the Today's Posts, I never see any of the posts here listed, so I don't know what the problem is. I think people are just being crazy and intolerant about that, but whatever.

The password thing is a separate issue, he's offering a permanent solution to control the trolling here, which would mean a lock and password to get in.

I am one who will like it when your group posts are no longer visible on the 'Todays Posts" page and I am neither intolerant or crazy. I wonder: how does calling people intolerant and crazy follow Jesus's guidance, anyway?

I think you have every right to have this group if the forum owners are ok with it. I respect the fact that you all find such comfort and strength in your chosen religion. But for me, being exposed to it at all is very uncomfortable and I will be glad when they figure out how to get it off the Today's Posts page.

I respect your opinion on the issue at hand but I would like to pose a question. When you come upon other threads of which you have no interest, do you simply skip over them or do you post to the forum to state your discomfort concerning their content?

Oh excuse me, nevermind...your post count tells all anyone would need to know.

A dilemma to be sure. All I know is Jesus said to go out into the world and tell the Gospel. We can tell the difference between a seeker and a troll. You've got the power to delete. As much as I'd like to be a closed group, I'm not really sure that is what Jesus would want us to do. So, I think we should stand on the great commission, and you know what that means...an open forum. We are strong enough in this forum to take care of attacks. I look back at Instigator. You know?

So what do I mean to say? Leave it open.:2cool:

Thank you for providing an excellent example of why the password option is being considered. :)

Un encrypted (lol) We ARE in the world and it's evil, not removed from it but not a part of it. Save that which is lost.

We ARE in a unique place. It's not like we are on a Christian website on a Christian forum, We are Christian guests on a secular website who have been allowed to "perform some of our strange foreign rituals" off to the side, but we're visible by the "locals" Some will view with interest and some will curiosity and some with disgust and hatred.

There are many ways we can carry ourselves while we sojourn here, I would point out one thing. We don't have a right to be here. A door has been open for us (as Christian vapers) to come together as brothers and sisters to share in Christ with one another in a location that is smack-dab in the middle of the fair grounds with everyone else in-the-world (including those who actively worship darkness). The privilege (of being here) while it lasts will draw attention from those who hate the truth, that is just a fact. But only God knows how He will use our conversations (in part) to draw those in who are not.

All that as a polite way to say this: I will try and be careful not to come across "to those outside" or in general I suppose with a, "HEY! I have just as much right to be here as you do!" type of approach. Because I am enjoying a privilege not a right. And I hope that I will make the most of the joy and opportunity of sharing here instead of somewhere else.

I don't feel we need to hide so much as be careful how we communicate to hate mongers peeking in. Our responses are immortalized for all to read over and over. We should expect some problems and be gracious in our responses and then rely on the moderator to use the delete button and ban hammer to keep them from going too far. Very few fill care what provoked us, only how we resonded.

All that "Christian PC" talk aside, I don't mind either way and will support the majority decision. I see both sides of it. I'm just glad to be here.

Y'all are helping to knock some of the rough edges off me that I still have.

When I first joined this e-cigarette forum, I was drawn to the political side. Within a short time, I found that was NOT the place for me. So, I don't go back. Boy that was a difficult decision! However, if enough people complain to Angus, we may be forced to go back to being cloaked like a Klingon War Ship. Kaplack!

I feel you there, Saints. I used to be active in the political forums, too. But it can be a good place to find people to invite to post here. I believe that is how Lisa found me.

Though I do not like the trolls, I can commiserate with them. Every time I open the forums, I find posts that are offensive to my beliefs. I roll my eyes and think "I can't believe there are people that really believe that BS. I am tired of having to see that kind of stuff all the time. What is wrong with the world?"

But, as liberals are so fond of saying "If you don't like it, you don't have to look at it." As far as comments go, I know it is a lot of work, but Angus has the .... button outside, and Lisa has it here.

this is a public forum, if someone is offended by the presence of the mere mention of Christianity, then they should go elsewhere, im offended that they would wish to restrict anyone of any faith to say what ever they want. (within reason) example: to denegrate others beliefs. So i say to those offended by christians, go elsewhere if you dont like it.
