Greetings everyone,

Another forum newbie here, living in Holland. Have been vaping for a couple of years now and although I am fairly happy with my setup, I'm wondering if you good folks can offer any advice on improving it.

For the battery, I have primarily an Eleaf iStick 30W and as a backup a mini iStick (it goes up to 5V, so 10W I guess?). Up top I use a KangerTech Aerotank and an Eleaf GS16. And I use the standard coils that come with, usually 1.8ohm.

I like to go to an actual shop to buy my equipment, because if I need help or there's a problem, I can go back and ask for their help. Unfortunately in Holland there is not a great variety in the few vape shops I can find. Also, I am not really at the stage of making my own coils or liquids. I'm happy with being a casual vaper (tootle puffer?!).

In my local shop they have only 2 setups which would be an improvement on mine: the KangerTech120 (135 euros for the full package inc batteries) or the EVIC VTC Mini (105 euros for full package inc battery). I find the prices pretty high, especially after buying the coils etc its getting close to 200 euros. There are other shops which sell the Nautilus Mini and Triton tanks which I saw gets good feedback on here.

I usually vape at around 8-10W, the shop told me that anything higher would burn out the coil, is that right? Can I increase the W as I see people here use similar setups at 15+W.

So (if you're still reading!) I am really on the lookout for some advice from you guys. Am I vaping at the correct W settings? What should I look to improve on my setup? If I want to increase the power a bit and go sub-ohming can I just buy a new tank and sub-ohm coils?

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi @LeRoy1

Can you not order from another EU country? The eVic Mini VTC and battery is under 60 Euros, maybe only 50.

You will find it hard to use either the Kanger Aero or GS16 tank higher than 10w, yes.

The Triton and Nautilus tanks are different. One is more for power vaping than the other.

Anyway - The 30w iStick is easily good enough for 15, 20, 25, 30 watts... that's why it's so popular.

Buy a new tank, vape on and be happy.

(200 Euros on a new set-up? Don't do it!)

Hi @LeRoy1 and welcome to the forum. Looks like you have a good start. The Nautilus would be a step up but not into the sub ohm realm. If you're looking to sub ohm then you would need a mod of at least 30 watts and a tank (like the Kanger Subtank Mini) that has factory sub ohm coils. I think you'd be limited to .5 ohm coil in a tank with the 30 watt mod you now have. If you do decide to get another mod, the iStick 30 watt will make a nice backup.

The prices you mentioned on that gear seem really high to me. I googled the Kanger 120 and it's $40 in the US.

You could shop for gear in China at www.Fasttech.com and www.HeavensGifts.com, I'm pretty certain they ship to your country.

It's very important to get authentic/good batteries if you decide to get a mod with replaceable batteries. A few companies re wrap another makers batterie seconds and lie about the specifications. I would suggest looking for "authentic" Samsung 25r's, LG HG2's, Sony VCT4's.

Good luck in your journey.

Thinking a bit more about this. If you are happy being a casual vaper, why consider buying a new mod at all? and certainly not spending large amounts of money.
A nice tank at 15w is the same on an Evic as an iStick. The eVic battery won't even last as long.
Yes,
If I want to increase the power a bit and go sub-ohming can I just buy a new tank and sub-ohm coils?
Just do this. :)

Hey, thanks a lot for the replies guys.

I should mention the Kanger120, for 135 euros, includes
- Kangertech KBOX 120 Watt
- 1 x Council of vapor - Vengeane claeromizer 1,5 ml
- 2 x Efest 18650 battery (3000mAh) 35A
- 1x Efest LUC S2 charger

I can look to buy from overseas, now that I have you friendly folks to help, rather than reply on going back to the shop in case of problems.

Any suggestions for a new mod? Perhaps I should stick to the iStick brand as it's worked for me this far, but go for the 40 or 50W.

There is two main choices in picking out a mod (the battery part).
One is to get a mod with an internal battery where you recharge with a usb cable plugged into a wall plug or pc. On most of these you can vape while it charges (but you are tethered to a cable while it does). Like the iStick 30 watt you now own.
The other choice is to get a mod with replaceable batteries (usually 18650 size). When it needs recharged you just swap out the battery and put the old/used one in a separate battery charger (like the Nitecore Intellicharger i2-$15). The plus side is you aren't tethered by a cable, BUT you'll have to spend more money to begin for extra batteries (around $7 each online plus a charger).

You can get a single or double battery mod. Most of the double battery mods will be able to vape over 100 watts, (which I have a few but have never even got close to 100 watts vape). The single battery mods will usuall have a rating from 40 to 70 watts, most with temp control (which you don't have to use, you can keep it in power mode and use the cheaper kanthal coils.) IStick just came out with a 100 watt tc mod which uses 2 18650 batteries but I have yet to see any reviews or feedback from an owner.

In the kit you were thinking about I don't know the clearomizer, but the Efest batteries are re wraps of another brand and most of the battery experts on ECF don't recommend the brand. Samsung 25r (2500 mah), Sony VCT4's (2100 mah), LG HG2's (3000 mah). There is no 35 amp battery on the market to my knowledge.

Perhaps I should stick to the iStick...

Yes. I think you should. :)
Keep going with what you have, honestly.

30w is plenty for a casual vaper i.m.o. The 40w adds nothing, unless you are secretly wanting to vape Temp Control. If you want a temp control mod, then the iStick is the last mod I would choose for that. It's useless.

Then again, if you can afford it...

Hi and welcome. Either of those you say are available would be a big step up from your current equipment. Kanger makes a smaller replacement in their Topbox kit, it doesn't go to 120 watts which you don't need, only up to 50 or 75 or something. The Evic part is also available in the VT model, which is the exact same thing except has a non-removable battery. Frankly, I don't think the tank that comes with any of those kits is the best for a tootle puffer. They'll do it, and work well enough, but better gear, more optimized for your vaping regimen, is available for less money. I suggest you go to an iStick 30 or an iStick 40TC, and either an Aspire Nautilus or GS Air tank. There are, of course, many other possible options. You should be able to get into all that for not even half of 200 Euro, more like a quarter. If you prefer to patronize your local shops, why don't you see if they will order this gear for you? Or just order it yourself. We here on the board will help you get it dialed in, although we can't help with a replacement if you get bad gear.

I'm a fan of the eVic VTC Mini. I paid $42 delivered to my door.
