Hi All,

Did not got any answer from the new members forum so trying it here. Though I dont know whether it matters or not.

I have ordered chi you clone from fasttech. Now i am looking into orbtronic (panasonic) 18650 IMR battery. There are two options one with the button top and one without. Does anyone has any experience of which one should I get. Please, keep in mind that I may be using a kick as well.

Thanks in advance.

Can't answer that from direct experience, but I am pretty sure that the Chi is fine with flat tops. I have read plenty of reviews about the clone, and I am positive that if flat tops were a problem I would know as the Chi clone was on my list of strong possibilities for purchase. All of my 18650's are flat tops.

And another note, the Chi has an adjustable firing pin, so you can't loose either way.

Both should fit fine, but you may have better luck with keeping the tubes flush when using a kick with a flat top. I only have button tops and I have to keep the switch end cap backed out a bit if I want to use a kick.

Also, a kick does not fit well in the Chi You because the inside diameter of the tubes is to big. I end up having to shim the kick inside the tube with a folded over piece of cardboard in order for it to make contact with the side of the tube, and even then it's fussy. The Nemesis clone has proven to be a much better fit and more reliable with a kick.

Even though it's a pain to kick, I still love my Chi You clone. In fact, I received my second one today. A brass one to keep the stainless one company! :)

I use Flat top and have had no issues. I would say use those. I doubt a button top would have issues though as the Chi You has a decent amount of variation available for battery length. Hope that made sense.

Thanks. in terms of performance, does it matter if I use a flat top or button top?

Thank you. It was quite helpful.

If you going to use the kick by EVOL. The best IMHO. They only recommend AW IMR batteries. Those are all button tops and the only ones that I will use in almost everything I got. If your going with a knock-off kick. Just get the real deal. You won't be sorry. I've got 8 Evol kicks and a few knock-offs. I'll stay with the real deal. This is where I get mine.

Will using the Kick allow enough room for an 18650 battery in a Chi You mod? It does take up some room in the battery compartment, and with many 18650 mods you have to step down a battery size to an 18490 IMR battery to make room for the Kick.

I'll agree with TNT, use the red AW 18490 IMR 1100 mAh batteries if you need to go with that size.

I have a chi clone, and I use the Panny's in it without issue. I have a knock-off kick, which fits fine with a '650. That said, if you wanna go with '490's, follow Bad's advice and use AW's. They're 15A rated. The Panny's are only 10A rated, so if you're gonna go low ohms (less than .6 safely), then I'd get some 30A batteries like the Sony US18650VTC4's, or even 24A ones like the AW 1600mAh 18650's.

Edit: I have green Panasonic NCR18650PF's. You're right that the Orbtronic wrapper may be thicker. Also, all my batteries are flat top, so I haven't tried to fit a kick with a button top.

I have the chi-you clone and both flat and button top batteries. The button tops barely fit, but they do fit. I only use button tops for my for my provari. My chi-you only sees flat tops.

If you have a topper that would required adjusting the firing pin lower to have a flush fit, then a button top will no longer fit as you'll have no adjustability in the pin. I have to have it maxed out as high as it will go to fit an efest button top 18650. Button tops are typically longer batteries due to the button top, we'll at least the efest ones are. I have no experience with other batteries.

The flat top version gives much more room for adjustments since you can adjust for battery length and firing pin independently.

Thanks that was really happing. I personally don't think I am going to go in sub-ohm world. I have a bcc mega right now with 1.8ohm coil and it seems to be my taste. I am thinking to stay between 1.2 to 1.8 ohm.

I think for the start I should get IMR Hybrid 2250mAh Panasonic CGR18650CH 18650 With Button Top High Drain Battery Cell 3.7V Li-Mn-Li-ion - See more at: Orbtronic - Panasonic CGR18650CH With Top Button, 2250mAh IMR High Drain 18650 Battery Cell-Made in Japan

They have Max discharge as 10A.
