So, I have been looking over the site for a few days but the amount of info on here, the amount of brands, types, vendors, and everything else is just overwhelming. Everyone seems to have their own opinions on what works and the current threads seem to all have unique and different reqs. I just need a little direction.

I'll start by going over what I need and want.
  • I want a mod. No exceptions! (As a long time tinkerer of all things electronics and it being my hobby, vocation, and life, the call is just to overwhelming!)
  • I need it to be able to handle suppressing my smoking addiction cravings (20 analogs per 24 hour period)
  • Low cost, but quality and lasting. A nice middle ground I suppose. I'm kind of between contracts and low on money but my analog habit has got to go before it literally kills me.
  • 510 is what I keep seeing recommended for interchangeability and I like that.
This is currently what I am looking at, $49.50 Kanger TOPBOX Mini 75W TC Starter Kit | Cloud Paradise Inc. but it seems a bit excessive to start with.

I am currently using a Mark 10 but it is crap and needs to go, though it helps, a bit, a very little bit.

Basically what I need some direction on is,
  1. What would be the most cost effective and low cost model?
  2. What would I need on top of that?
  3. Where is said model sold cheapest and without risk of fakes?
Sorry if this turns out to be a common set of questions but it seems like each situation and person is unique and often requires a separate set of answers, not to mention the constant changing market.

Thanks for your time!

I depends on how you vape. For mouth-to-lung, like smoking a cig, cheap and effective is an iStick 30 and a Nautilus tank. Actually, that Kanger is what I recommend for "next step" for people coming off pen types or the small iStick I recommended above, or for mid power subohm direct lung vaping. If the budget will stretch, go for it. The tank has both MTL and direct lung coils available, and you can adjust the air flow.

Hi @EBan and welcome to the forum. For mouth to lung I normally suggest the Aspire Nautilus Mini tank on the iStick 30 w or mod of your choice (at least 30 watts).

The gear you picked out is also about what you described that you are looking for and at a decent price. If you mouth to lung vape you might want to get a cheap more narrow 510 sized drip tip (mouthpiece) to swap out for the wide bore that comes with the tank.

You will also need :
1. two batteries (@7 each) and one battery case ($1) to carry an extra charged battery in the pocket.
2. A separate battery charger is highly recommended for safety and speed of charging ($15- Nitecore or Xtar 2 bay)
3. Nicotine level juice, dependent on coil. I would guess no higher than 6mg (1.5 ohm coil) and quite possibly 3 mg (.5 or lower ohm coil). Best bet here is to go to a local vape shop and sample some flavors to see what you enjoy and buy a small bottle to start. Your taste buds will take a few weeks to recover so I wouldn't start with the "so called premium" juices. You're going to have to buy some juice to see if its the right nic level. If you buy a 6 mg and it's too strong you can buy a zero nic of the same flavor and equally mixed the juice becomes a 3mg-and no wasted $$.
4. Coils - that tank has 3 options, the Ni low ohm for temp control, OR the 1.5 ohm and/OR the .5 ohm for power mode. I would suggest starting in straight power mode until you "learn" the basics of how your gear works. I have a few temp control mods and still run them all in power mode...it's simple. I would go ahead and get a 5 pack of coils (your choice resistance/ohms), or buy the extra rba (build deck) where you can make your own coils (EASY and CHEAP).

Everyone has their own places they shop. I will give you a few links to where I've shopped.
I've used these U.S. vendors (usually 4 days order to delivery):

www.gotvapes.com (Texas)
www.rockymountainvapor.com/ (Colorado)

China
www.fasttech.com (2 week delivery)
www.heavengifts.com (excellent service/DHL shipping is under 5 days to hand)

Also batteries and chargers are usually cheaper from a battery store :
Where to buy in USA
Illumn.com - Flashlights, Batteries, Carry Gear, Intelligent LED Lighting, and More! (California)
Authentic AW Batteries - RTD Vapor (Pennsylvania)
Liion Wholesale Batteries | Li-ion battery distributor (Pennsylvania)
18650 Batteries | Rechargeable Li-ion | Battery Chargers (Florida)
Earth's #1 source for IMR 18650 Batteries, Chargers, Cases & Wraps | IMRbatteries.com (Texas)

Good luck in your decisions.

Id recommend a mod with removable batteries so you can swap when you run out, instead of having to wait hours for your mod to recharge.

I'd say go big or go home. Especially if you want something satisfying and will be able to handle everything you throw at it. The Wismec Reuleaux RX200 is defiantly on my list of cheap recommended mods. You can get one for as cheap as $35 and it will do everything you will ever need. This includes having a removable battery, firmware upgrade able, being able to handle any compatible wire in tc mode and it goes all the way up to 200w. It might just be the last mod you ever need. only down side is you have to be careful of which tank you put on it as it is not comparable with all tanks.

Edit: Just saw your budget. Would be hard to go this route as you have to buy alot of extras, even though the mod itself is cheap. Oh and I see someone else recomended the Wismec as well. I would defiantly go that route but you will also need a charger which will add to the cost.

nothing wrong with the kanger topbox set, you get both the mod (where you put your battery, switch b/t temperature control or power mode, adjust power/temp, etc) and the tank (where you put your eliquid and coil heads).

If you go with the kanger I believe you do need batteries (I believe its 1 x 18650). The set also comes with a usb cord that you can use to charge, or you can opt for a separate charger.

Evic VTC mini about 40 ish, upgradable firmware. I have about 40 mods & this one is a sweet ride.
If you get a tank, you will need power heads of varying resistance about 2 bucks apiece.
Nitecore 2 Bay charger 15 usd
2 20 amp cdr batteries, i use Sony & samsungs. 10 apiece worst case scenario.
Clearo tank around 25usd.
Unfortunately your reach exceeds your grasp.
Don't buy crap, you'll spend more replacing it..

Great post until you got to the nicotine recommendations. 0,3 or 6mg strength for a PAD smoker looking to quit is a recipe for failure. I would recommend 18mg at a minimum and 24 or 32mg if available. Its easier to cut a nic level that's too high than it is too increase one that's to low.

If the person goes that high and coughs up a lung then they may quit. Start small work your way into it. Trust me you will be better off. I started high and just about gagged and got sick. Then went low 6 mg, then went to 12 mg, then to 18 mg gradually. Worked to get my fixes on bad cravings.

Thanks for all the help guys!

I've decided to go with the iStick 60 for the interchangeable batteries as repairability/interchangeability is an important factor for me. I see being able to switch out parts that go bad as a more cost effective aspect then having to replace an all-in-one component multiple times. Also the option to switch parts in and out to test what works is nice.

In time I probably will look at bigger and better things but time is a factor and I need to quit analogs like yesterday.

I wouldn't recommend such high nic levels for subtank use. At the time of the post the OP was going from a "cig a like" to a subtank... not a clearomizer.
