I recommend the KGO kits from Hoosier ecig Supplies. You can watch the video on their site of pbsuardo comparing the battery to 18650 high end batteries used in mods. For $45 IMHO you can't beat it for starting out. I have 4 friends that have started this way and are all very thankful they did.

The E-Power or Kgo are better options than the eGo. Better batteries and in the case of the E-Power much less expensive to maintain, yet they are the same physical size as the eGo.

The Janty Neo is very new. I would wait until all the "kinks" that crop up with most new models are worked out.

Janty does have some of the best eliquid around however.

I started with the small e-cig and small batteries and it drove me NUTS! I was always waiting for a battery to charge and a couple times it caused me to smoke. I considered what I wanted and researched and came up with the 1100 mah eGo (cheapie clone) passthrough battery. It has a USB cable connection on the bottom and I can still vape with it even if it is charging. The USB can connect to a computer USB2, a wall adapter or a car adapter, and you never have to touch the batteries. The 1100 mah will last all day, is strong enough to drive low resistance devices, and (as noted before) it is 510 threaded and eGo threaded so you can use most anything with it. I use the Star Dust clearomizer. It has a screw top so it doesn't leak or slip off, can be filled easily from the squeeze bottle, and has eye appeal with the eGo battery.

The main point was the price. canvape has the 1100 mah passthrough battery and USB charging cable for 20 bucks and the Star Dusts for 5 bucks. Two of each (plus a spare to share between the two of you) and a selection of clearomizers to try out would still be under $100. And you have skipped several generations of eGo systems.
Worked for me. YMMV

And of course there is always the top of the line Darwin, if money is no object. Don't ask what the top of the line is, everyone has a different opinion. I am just happy where I am and the passthrough batteries cost me less than I spent on the small ones that satisfied me 90% of the time. Of the many ways I have tried to quit smoking, vaping is the only one where I forgot about it, and that was with the large batteries. It's that pleasurable!

Keep your wick wet.

Like a few others here, I am also going to suggest that you try the KGO kit. I started out using a simple M401 kit, automatic batteries. I quickly realized that I was tired of constantly charging the batteries and I was really tired of filling those itty bitty cartridges all of the time. :( So, on the suggestion of a few on this forum, I went the KGO route.

Both Hoosiers KGO kit 1100mAh by SLB and Dark City SLB KGO Starter Kit carry the KGO for the same price, ($44), but Hoosier's are screen printed with their name, where as Dark City's are NOT screen printed.

As far as the cartomizers, or cartridges to use o them, there are so many choices it is not even funny.
I use and like all of these:
E Turbo Atomizer , Boge LR 510 Cartomizer - 5 Pack ,
Vision Ego Clearomizer,
Clear eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer, Flat Tip

HTH,

Wow, thanks for the replies everyone!

I think Idefinetely want to go with an ego model. And thanks for al of the suggestions.

Which ego would you recommend, and what vendor would be the best ?

I recommend the eGo E-Power kit. I can't overemphasize the advantages of having replaceable batteries and the ability to replace the switch unit. It is the only eGo that is not disposable. It's available in an 18650 size as well as smaller sizes. A 2000mah AW IMR, or better yet a 2250mah Panasonic ($9.99 shipped) will give you an entire day or two of vaping without being chained to your computer or an AC/USB adapter, trying to preserve your battery time or waiting to recharge. That's almost twice the capacity of any other eGo type unit. Again, if you want a more streamlined PV, there are units that take somewhat smaller batteries. IIRC, the kits come with 2 batteries and a charger.

Gotvapes has a black 18650 model in stock. Their other models are sold out, but they have good pics and info on what is available. I'm sure other vendors on the ECF vendor list will have the particular one you like in stock.

I'll chime in with another vote for the kGo from Hoosier eCigs. http://www.hoosierecig.com/KGO-kit-1100mAh-by-SLB_p_10.html

You can get it in titanium, chrome, black, pink, red or blue so you'll be able to easily tell yours from your girlfriend's. :)

Another GREAT beginner option is the eGo-t.

I have to agree with the other posters on the eGo. If you HAVE to have on the size of a cig - I recommend the Joyetech 510 system. My only other advice would be to not get the cheapest you can find, but go with a trade name, like Joyetech - fewer problems, less frustration. You are going to save so much money that a few extra bucks in the beginning will pay off.
And... keep in touch here, lots of good advice.

When someone asks me for a nice eGo starter kit, this is what I show them:

eGo Passthrough Cartomizer Kit

It's a passthrough battery, so you can use it while it charges, and when it's charged you can disconnect it and take it wherever you go. This was my first PV kit.

AND, the 1100mah Passthrough battery charges in less than 2 hours on USB2 and shuts off, so it can charge overnight without worry and be ready to meet the day (or more).

My final advice,"don't try to keep up with the Jones'." When you find what "works for you", relax and enjoy. There are lots of shiny things out there but Vaping isn't an end to itself. It is the means to better health, more money in your pocket, and a perceptibly better smell! Then it is time to get out and enjoy life doing things that better health and more money make possible. Congratulations and Welcome!

Wish I had thought this way before spending several hundred dollars on vaping supplies... LOL! Gonna take me six months to break even! However, I do not regret a single purchase I made.

It's according to where you get your supplies and liquids, but i'm at the 27 day mark and all my equipment is still running perfectly and i'm on my second 30ml bottle (vap about 1 to 1-1/2 of the eGo tanks a day)

So except for your liquids you should have no real expense after the initial purchase (though i am obsessive about cleaning my attys so i expect them to last me 4-6 months)

Approximately how much does it cost to vape daily through an ego on a monthly basis? How much does it typically run per month for liquid, carts and atomizers for an ego ?

There's no appreciable difference between the costs of these things for an eGo as any other PV using a similar voltage.
That said, no one can tell you that. I vape about 4-5ml of juice per day. If I stuck to one flavor, I'd use up a carto a week on average, maybe less. I make my own juice so, the cost is about $0.50-$0.60 per day. For premixed juice, I use a rule of thumb not to pay more than $0.80/ml unless it's something extraordinary. So that would be about $4+/- at most, worth of juice per day, plus the cost of a carto amortized over a week. So, on average, about $4 +/- $0.50 or so per day for premixed juice and <$1 for DIY juice.

Figure a pack of 5 cartos a month. More while you're playing with lots of flavors. Less if you want to clean them.

Please let me know if you manage to get 4-6 mos. out of an atty, unless you use it every third day for an hour. Cleaning helps, but metal is metal. If you dry burn them to get them properly clean, you're putting some stress on them as well. If you don't dry burn, they'll never get really clean. I'd be a little less optomistic about the lifespan of an atty. I had one that lasted almost 5 months once, and I paid about $12 for it because it was supposed to have a year warranty against burning out. Turned out to be a decent atty, but not worth $12 and the company was a ripoff.

No problem, i'll let you know how my journey ends. Like I said i'm pretty obsessive about cleaning them, so I hope to stretch them out quite far. But it could be new vap'er optimism honestly.

I don't dry burn them though. My OCD cleaning goes like this
3 tanks (2 days) i blow it out. Reprime then insert new tank
1 week use (10-12 tanks) i clean it completely with water rinse and alcohol rinse and set it up to dry for a week
switch to my second one
...
repeat

I also use very light fluids so I haven't noticed any real residue/build up. But its only like my 4th week vaping so i'll have to see how it goes. Also I guess I was being a bit unclear, I meant to say I expect the 2 i'm using now to last a total of 4-6 months together, I don't know if that came off clearly to everyone.
