In Need of Some Opinions

I currently am vaping off my M401 which I am pleased with. I have had a couple weeks and currently in the middle of my atty's first soak. Although, my friend owns a JoyE 510 and I really like the set up of the internal atty and manual power on. He has had his a little over 3 weeks and it is still hitting like champ. The set-up I'm looking at comes with 2 batterys, 2 attys, 5 empty carts, charger, and 15 mL of ejuice all for $65. I've heard a few people raving about the 2-Piece kit. Any one who has good things to say about the 510, bad things, or any other suggestions feel free speak your mind. Thanks!

You can get a better deal here on the 510:
Joye 510 NO BOX

$35 so you can get $30 worth of juice there which will get you 50ml to 80ml depending on what you choose. Or get a Passthrough with a wall and car adapter.... etc.

I have a 510....the 510 is nice easy draw and over all pleasant with that said I have had 1 atty crap out fast (about a month) the other is working fine. I am currently use'n the PTB Plug mod which (for me) is make'n the carts last much longer which is nice. I have found the batt life is a bit short compared to my RN4081 but with the PCC really wasnt a big deal

Thanks for the site Kent!
Lestat, I'm running a PTB straw mod out of my M401. Battery life is important to me but it's not a deal breaker because I am usually close to an electrical outlet and I drive a lot so charging is not a huge deal. My friends 510 draws massive hits every time and he is also running a PTB straw mod out of his. Thanks for the opinions!

I went with the 510 as my 1st purchase after doing extensive research on what would be best for me. Been vapin a little over a month now, I must say I was surprised with this little workhorse. My only mistake was purchasing the 2 batt/atty pcc package. The battery life lacks big time, I put em through hell and back being a 1 1/2 pack a day full flav marb menthol smoker for 18 years. I stopped smoking the day i received the starter kit and was constantly draining and charging these suckers back to back up until a week ago when i received 4 more complete units and another charger. The O.G. starter kit is still tickin and in my regular rotation. My only peeve atm is getting the carts to wick better. So far I've only tried the "blue foam" mod with less than stellar results. I' ll give some of the other mods a shot then go from there.

I went around the block and back with my 510 and all kinds of cart modifications - the tea bag stuff, blue fish foam stuffing, coffee stirrers, etc. In the end, I got tired of fiddling with it and gave my kit away and got a KR808 - a two-piece kit - from NHaler. In fact I was marveling recently over a six hour drive I made recently using the same battery (a long) and the same cartridge -- no top-ups. Now that is the life for me. I don't use a passthrough; have some kind of mental block against feeling 'tethered' somehow. But with a battery that lasts hours and hours instead of the minutes the 510 lasted, who needs it?

I love my 510, had some issues in the beginning being new that got worked out quickly and haven't smoked an analog for a long time now *weeks* I totally wished I'd have gotten to no box kit in the beginning, but NOOOO i spent more to get a box that is collecting dust.. havent used it since I unpacked it. All my parts and pieces from Totally Wicked seem to be doing good, I purchased some more from Nhaler they are good too. Only thing I hate is constant batt charging. I am SOO happy I am laid off work right now and never leave the house because the batt thing would be VERY difficult if I were moving around all the time. I love my 510 but am totally going to save for a chuck to get some extra battery life. Til then, this does the trick nicely!

Used to smoke 2 packs a day!

The 401 and 510 are pretty closely matched in vapor production, battery and cartridge life. I think the 510 has a slight lead in all, but I haven't gone back and checked my older reviews to be sure. Using the Puresmoker Protoge for both, my current (old and nearly worn out) 510 atty does better than my (brand new) 401. By a good margin. But I don't recall previous 401's being this much lower vapor than other 510's. So I may just have a bad 401. Sorry I can't be more definitive right now.

Personally, I like the 510 better. The manual switch adds control, the cartridges are easier and less messy to change or refill, and it's a bit shorter for approximatly the same battery life.

You should also consider cartomizer models. Both major types' cartridges last far longer than either the 401 or 501.

You might have mixed something up there leaford. It's well known that the 401 battery lasts at least 2-3 times as long as the 510 battery. Perhaps you were thinking of a different e-cig with regards to battery life. But it's not even close in that regard, with the 510 giving you 1-2 hours on avg. While the 401 will usually go 3-5 hours.
Also, it sounds like you're comparing the auto 401 to the manual 510. That's not even close. But the manual 401 vs a 510 is a completely different story. It'll have that 510 running scared.

Could be. It's been known to happen. ;)

I haven't reviewed a 401 for almost a year, so things may have changed more than I'd realized, too. Looks like I need to re-check them soon.

Yes, I was comparing auto 401 to manual 510. Because manual is standard on 510's but not on all (or even most) 401's. And I haven't tried a manual 401 to give my opinion on it anyway. See above. ;)

Thanks for setting me straight.

I modded my 510 to take the larger 801 batts. Much better.

But I travel for a living. In the car and on the computer I almost exclusively use a passthrough. No batts to worry about.

My passthrough sucks, I think it just never worked right. At first I blamed my laptop, but it doesn't work half as well as my manual batteries,no matter what I plug it into, and I thought it was supposed to work even better than batteries.
