Cig sized: Volt, Bloog, Smoov- cig sized and battery life is an issue- 808 threading-somewhat limited with the accessories you can use.Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Smokeless Image Electronic Cigarettes - The Future is in your hands Starter Kits from $20- $95. Comes in auto and manual. I chose Smokeless Image as they sell quality products, prolly have the best Customer Service within the industry and have a large and loyal following. Realize the PVs listed above are 808 and only use 808 threaded accessories. The main reason people upgrade is because of poor battery life. Batteries are good for about 150- 400 charges before they die- around the 250 charge point they begin to drop in performance.
eGo T- batteries come in 180- 280 mah. The mini 510 are 510 threading- the most common threading.
All the above PVs are automatic and special care should be taken in regards to juice leaking into the battery.

eGo Class:
JoyTech eGo fires @ 3.3 volts, SmokTech eGo fires @ 3.7 volts and the Riva/ Kgo fires @ 3.7 volts- come in 650, 900 or 1100 mah depending on the manufacturer- most popular 510 threading/ connection and are manual. I own a Kgo and I LOVE it. Have used the JoyTech eGo and prefer the Kgo because of the higher voltage.
eGo Starter Kit cost anywhere from $50- $80.
Riva/ Kgo starter kit costs about $40-$50:

Mini Variable Volt PV: 510 threading/ connection. Manual Batteries.
Kgo VV- only comes in 650 mah- I own it and find battery life a problem.

Twist comes in 650, 900 and 1000 mah. Dial very narrow/ smooth and not easy to turn. Voltage numbers very hard to read/ invisible. Button occasionally sticks.

Vision Spinner comes in 400, 650, 900, 1100 and 1300 mah. Wide knurled voltage dial easy to turn and easy to read voltage markings. 1300 mah Spinner is the same size as 1000 Twist.
Both variable voltage PVs above fire from 3.3-4.8 volts.
I owned the Twists and now use them as backups because the dial was hard to turn and I could not clearly see the voltage markings.
1300 Vision Spinner- 113mm or ~4.4 inches long; 16MM WIDE, 2MM WIDER THAN A STANDARD EGO
1100 Vision Spinner- 119mm or ~4.75 inches long
1000 Twist- Length 120mm(4.75")/Diameter 14mm

Advantage of the VV- when stressed and need a stronger hit I can easily and quickly dial up the voltage. For an all day vape I can lower it to 3.7-4.0. Also some flavors really shine at high voltage while others at a lower voltage.

Stealth Mini Pvs- fire at 3.7 volts
eGo 510 Mini- manual 400 mah- battery costs $13- Length- 60 mm
SmokTech eGo 510 Mini- manual- 350 mah- battery costs $11- $13- Length- 60 mm
eGo 808 Mini- manual- 400 mah- nattery costs $11- $13- Length- 60 mm
SD Keyring 510- auto- 300 mah- battery costs $20. Length- 44 mm
I own the SD and use it for concerts. With moderate vaping on a standard carto I get about 4 hrs. The eGo has a lit button so it’s really not a 100% stealth PV but has the manual button, a larger batt capacity and is more reasonably priced.
Pass Through PVs
These generally work well for those working on a PC and can be plugged directly into the PC usb port or an outlet via a wall adapter. You can use them while they’re being charged. Be aware with older PCs some usb ports cannot handle the PV and serious damage could occur- fried MB and/ or usb port. Generally rear PC ports are safer. They come in 650 ans 1000 mah.

I mentioned this before but regardless of which PV you buy to stay away from the older tank system "cartridge+ atomizer". Just do a Google search on "eGo-T leaking" and you'll get lots of hits...the "T" refers to the cartridge/ atomizer Tank system...this system can be found in many other starter kits. Cartomizers are a good starting point in place of the cartridge/ atomizer system.
In regards to customs there's no problem with importing hardware but nicotine juice is another matter. LOTS of Vendors up here with some really great juices.

Edit: with automatic batteries they are activated when you draw/ inhale on them through air holes in the top of the battery- this makes them susceptible to damage from leaking juice. The manual batteries are sealed and activated by a button so "less" chance of damage to batteries.

I have VERY limited use opinions, but I found the Volt blank Cartos to be great other then you can't really change flavors with them. Their small clearo burnt out on me in 3 days, while the bigger one is still going strong. Cartos seem to be quality so far.

Once my eGo's arrived I started using the Novas and have had very few problems other then sometimes after a refill they seem underpowered for a while.

Can't really go wrong persay, but there is a price to learning what you like and he (Vapoor) has helped narrow the field.

Have to crash as I'm very tired. Read thru all the info posted by EVERYONE...save what you believe to be pertinent in Word Docu along with any questions you may have. Stores aren't open till Monday so you've got lots of time. Anything you don't understand ask for clarification. Before I purchased my first PV I spent a solid 200 hrs researching. Another 200 while it was en route. The bonus...I was up and vaping in minutes...that same PV is still in great shape and fires like a champ 1 1/2 yrs later...don't use it anymore though.
Cheers.

Edit: apologies if I sounded a bit gruff- under the weather with the Flu and very tired.

Katya was right, you do know it all! Glad I decided to wait a bit longer, now thinking the volt is better. I see what you mean with the 808 and lack of accessories, but it seems I could get blank cartos with 808 and put any juice I want on them.....any thought on this?

You can get an 808 to 510 adapter but it looks kind of dumb if you ask me. I'm assuming that if you are looking for a cigalike you care about the aesthetics.

The other night Baditute posted a great video on filling volt cartomizers but I can't seem to find the thread right now. It shows in video form just what you need to do so you could get a visual before choosing. I will keep looking.

I can't find it, but I pm'd him and hopefully he'll post it so you can see how easy it is.

Best Way to fill a Cartomizer:

My method is a modification of the fill from the top of the cartomizer.

A tip that I use when filling the carto is to plug the center air hole with a wooden tooth pick. This blocks any unwanted e-juice from getting into the tube that can cause flooding.

I hold the carto at a slight angle, and rotate it around as I drip liquid onto the polyfill. When the fibers look like a slushy drink, I shake the carto down like a thermometer. This produces the same effect as a centrifuge, forcing the juice down into the carto.

I return to adding more drops, and shake it down again. Repeat this process until the polyfill will absorb no more liquid. It is then ready to use.

Thanks for understanding. Lots of people here with valuable info. The only problem I see with Volt automatics (they are 808 threading) is a regular 808 to 510 adapter won't work because "many" of them cover the air holes and prevent activation of the batteries ( remember activation via inhaling). 808 to 510 adapters (and vice versa) allow the vaper to interchange diff accessories with either a 510 or 808. Bad has owned the Volt so he's prolly the best resource for info.
If you do choose the SI Volt post your pic here for a freebie:

+1.

I own probably every kr808 battery ever manufactured--and every kr8>510 adapter; most of them work, but diminish the quality of the vape noticeably, while adding to the overall length of the PV. They also tend to get lost. It's a pain. I got them because I started with the kr808 thread and then spent some time experimenting with 510 atties and cartos on my kr8 batts.

If I were starting today, I'd probably start with a 510 threaded PV; all new technology is currently being developed for the 510 (or eGo) connection. Besides, after years of testing different cartomizers, I believe that 510 cartos are generally better made than the kr808s; I particularly like Boge 510 (single coil, regular length--very tightly woven filling, fill slowly and be patient) and Smoktech 510 (also single coil and regular length--much looser filler, easier to fill).

To Vapoor and Katya, (don't know how to quote two posts) Yup I realize I am limiting myself with the 808 (thanks to you two) but I think that starting with the volt will be better than blu for battery if nothing else. I emailed smokelessimage just to see if they ship with discreet packaging, or at very least will ship with blank cartos so canuck custom can't really seize for hardware alone (paranoid maybe? lol). My back up plan is maybe ordering Redds (see "volts in Canada?" this forum). Have either of you two heard or played with Redds? They are on Happy Vaper I think sorry can't quite remember as it has been a long search and too much info to process this fast. But again from talking to you happy folks I am willing to get my own juice and fill my own blank cartos with volt or redds. The only problem I have with redds is that they don't list the battery and such info or I am having trouble finding it but do have a very attractive PCC like the blu brand. While writing this Katya, got your post and haven't pulled any trigger yet. Not much of a impulse buyer, plus unfortunately my parents dog (family dog!) passed away last night, most beautiful chocolate lab you've ever seen. We have had the gift of sharing her life to a ripe 11 years old :( know it's off topic but I am hurting, she was family!
