I even know some people from my city who went there at the time and had their car trashed...

Really?

Gee, and people wonder where the "dumb American" stereotype comes from.

(I'd face-palm but I've done it so much lately, I'm getting carpal tunnel)

Or then again my throat get's a little naturally irritated when I've quit smoking before, maybe I just need to man up lol.

I read that is a common side effect to quitting smoking. I never had that one much myself when I've tried to quit. Others withdrawal symptoms. Evil, evil other ones. But not so much the throat thing. Or maybe I was so crazed I didn't notice? I'm a horse's rear normally. Nicotine withdrawal? I become a raving lunatic. Always two seconds away from having a shouting match with a lamp post or something.

Seem to have a touch of it now though. Sometimes, if I forget myself and try to do a cig style inhale and the vapor whacks the back of my throat, I have coughing fit. Long as I remember to hold the vapor in my mouth a while, even a short while, I'm okay. But a cig style lung powered draw and it's cough city.

You gotta wonder if they don't deliberately put stuff in stink sticks to anesthetize the throat to keep people going...

I'm the same way, I gave up quitting only for the reason I didn't want to lose it on my son for no reason. I find vaping gives me enough nic to not do that easily though, I mean a lot of it is mental too. Just keep telling myself it is doing the job and I'm not craving the stinkys, and it does the trick nicely. I still have a mini cigar every once in a while, one every other day or so. I'm sure in a few weeks or months though those will be gone too :)

Hi everyone,

Shane, your son sounds like a wise little guy so I'm sure he understands.

Mark, I teach and although my throat has not been sore (except first thing in the morning for the first couple of days) I frequently and unpredictably find that when I try to project I often sound so hoarse you would think I was really sick.

I don't want to curse myself by changing my signature, but I have found in the last few days I have either chosen or forgotten (about 50-50) to have the second cigarette ...

Rescues are the best! Hiya mk! :)

Missed this one first time through. You're right there. Rescues are special.

Had a friend (who passed away awfully young, he was 47) who was a one man rescue organization. My best dog ever was a sore ridden, hair missing, dirty, abusively neglected pit bull that my friend got away from the (insert long string of angry and very rude expletives here) first owner and resocialized. That was Lucky. Who lived up to his name when he met my friend, Bob.

Lucky was a short, stocky, muscular dog. Very much the type of pit that scummy creeps use to fight. Which may have been what (insert second long string of expletives here including various anatomically impossible acts) first owner guy meant to do.

But Lucky became my dog fast. I helped take care of him during the daytime (I was working at home at the time, telecommuting) and noticed when Lucky felt cared for and secure and was healed and such, he started acting like a big puppy. Strong, scary looking dog. But just a total puppy at heart. I got him his first chew toy (pits, "power chewers" as they say). Dog was absolutely beside himself that somebody would give him a toy. He would take the thing to bed with him like a teddy bear. :)

Bob was much more the stereotypical computer geek. I used to razz him about hardly setting foot outdoors. Like, what, you a vampire? Sunlight gonna kill ya? I'm a mix. I'm a computer geek but also do basic work on my pickup and have power tools and can use them. Lot like my grandfather come to think. He was a master electrician who built (as in, he did it, not paid somebody though relatives pitched in to help at times) the house that my mom was raised in, did all the home repairs and had a machine shop in the back yard.

Anyway, it ended up I was the one out in the backyard playing fetch and tug-o-war with Lucky. All that dog ever wanted was somebody to play with him. And he just blossomed. Happy, bouncy, affectionate, sweet tempered, you name it. Bob decided Lucky had adopted me. That was Bob, people didn't adopt dogs, dogs adopted people. He wasn't a "people person" that guy. But "dog person"? Oh yeah.

When Bob died, Blaze came with me too as I moved from post-Katrina New Orleans (yeah, fun times, I was living... within a half hour of the Dome?). Blaze was much more Bob's dog but was this big, happy-go-lucky, loved everybody, clown of a dog. Hardly a day went by that dog didn't make me laugh. He was a nut. Blaze never was abused or anything, he just had bad luck. He was named "Blaze" by firefighters. The family that had him died in a home fire and Blaze was the only survivor. Nobody knew what his "real name" was. They just called him "Blaze" since he was rescued from a fire.

Clearly, though, he'd never been mistreated a day in his life. He had no clue there were mean people in the world and everybody was his pal. Everybody. Big, intimidating looking guy but wouldn't make for a guard dog at all. He'd think the burglar was here to play with him and pet him and the big risk to the burglar would be getting knocked down and licked happily. :) Never could break him of "greeting" people by rearing up and "pushing" with his paws. He thought that was a friendly "hello, let's play" or something. Almost knocked my brother over a few times and my brother ain't a small guy.

Lost Lucky first. He started having seizures and we (the vet and I) tried treating those. But that was just the start of series of things that went wrong in a very short time. Turned out, he had cancer. Bad. Three tumors and a lymphoma invading his lungs fast. So I had to do the right thing. Hated it but I knew it was time the day Lucky ignored his toys. He played right up to the last week. That was who he was. He wanted to play.

Blaze was always a healthy as all get out dog. He just finally got so old. Took a spill and screwed up his hips bad. Couldn't walk right, cried almost non-stop, I had to carry him down the all of two steps off the deck to the yard so he could go to the bathroom (and he'd gotten scrawny as he got really old but he was still big). His age, it was a choice between letting go or doping him to the gills with pain pills. He'd been so full of life and happy I wasn't going to dope him just to keep him around like a... stuffed toy or something. I mean, even the week before the fall, he'd still pep up, come bounding down the hall and do this crazy... dance? I think it was a "let's play" kind of thing but it wasn't the "play bow". It was hilarious though. :)

Anyway.

That was last November I decided it was time to let go. Hard, hard decision. He could have gone on a while longer but handicapped and stuffed with pain pills. I just couldn't do that. It wouldn't have been any way to live. Especially not him. Even as age slowed him down, he was bouncy, happy dog. Just less energy. Like me. I ain't 20 anymore. :)

Okay, I'm veering way off topic and being chatty this morning. I need to go do paperwork (bleah). Dealing with the state bureaucracy. Oh joy, oh joy...

I'm so sorry you lost your dogs but it sounds like you have some great memories. The dogs were lucky to have found a home with you - hopefully one day you will be ready to rescue another one.

Maybe later. Definitely not now. And you're right, great memories. When I catch myself getting "down" about losing them, I force myself to remember something good. Especially something funny. Have to remind myself I was lucky to know those two.

Boy, did I get off topic or what?

By the way...

still astounded - now down to about 2 cigarettes a day - ie about 28 avoided!

Me too. Astounded that is. I had, oh, three yesterday? Something like that? Started to think negatively about it. Caught myself and reminded myself I may have had three but I did not have the other 23 to 33 I would have had only two weeks ago. Which is startling in its own right. It'll be two weeks this Sunday. Had to catch myself and ask, "You wanna miracle or something? This much of a drop ain't miraculous enough for the first two weeks?" :)

I have to consciously choose to count the ones I did not smoke. Not the few I did. And considering I could often plow through a carton in a week (sometimes less), the "not smoked" number is in the hundreds now. Already.

I would never have believed anybody who told me this could happen. I would have laughed in their face. But, there it is...

I'm in the same boat. I've tried quitting many times only to fail at some point. One time, and this is kind of funny, I had quit for about a month. I went out drinking with some friends, which has always been my worst trigger but surprisingly didn't have one all night! Woke up hung over as he!!, checked my pockets and figured I must have smoked them all the night before. Went to the store, bought a pack, got in my car and lit up and as soon as I took that first puff I remembered I had quit lol. Too late by that point! I'm loving my volt, Starting to really see the difference in my wallet and smell/taste things better. See if you can go about 3 days without a stinky, I did and then had one with my friend. Couldn't believe how bad it tasted and especially stank. My hand smelt so bad and could smell that one on my clothes, just made me think of what an awesome thing I'm doing and what a nasty habit it is. No wonder I only dated girls who smoke, the ones who don't smelt me coming a mile away lol

Hey Vapoor and Katya, it's been a while since I bugged you for more info so.....:)

How do you tell when your blank carto is going to go? I'm still on those Boge king size blanks and haven't toasted one yet. One I have filled everyday since I got them. Is the vapor going to get less or just stop working instantly? I top up often, only ever have to add quarter to half ml at a time. I'm vaping the one most of the day and that's all it takes, figure I will get the most life out of it by keeping it nice and moist. Katya told me that she has put 5 to 9 ml's in a boge, thinking it wasn't the king size though? The one has about 9 ml's put through it and going strong :)

Hi, Shane! My 5-9 ml is not a strict rule, it's just a vague estimation, based on my experience and personal preference. There are many variables involved; what kind of carto is being used (some last longer that others); what kind of juice (light, clear, barely flavored eliquids will extend the life of your cartomizer, while the dark, sweet, gooey ones will clog the coil much faster); what wattage (the hotter the vape, the sooner the coil may pop), and how frequently the carto is being refilled--moist cartos last longer than cartos that are allowed to dry out between refliis) etc., etc.

Generally, I feel that the quality of vape begins to diminish after 10 ml or so; if you use a tank, a carto will last much longer. Bottom line--if you're getting enough vapor and the taste is fine, don't worry about it. There are people who use cartos for days. Of course, if you get that dreaded burnt taste, you have to chuck it.

Sweet, thanks again Katya! I have been mostly vaping one since I got the juice, which was on Monday. Can't get enough of that Longhorn from Halo :) On Monday I'm putting in an order from canvape for some more flavors and some more blanks, and another order from SI for a mega charger for the volt (I have 100 of their points from my freebie thanks to Vapoor and my previous order, so should be a good discount). I will then be good for months :) I'm finding that Longhorn is perfect for all day, but right now I'm having a couple beers and it just isn't quite enough. That's where the Captain Jack comes in, a little harsh for regular vaping but perfect when you have a little alcohol in ya. Still haven`t refilled my Tiki carto, thinking that might be a freebie for someone who wants it lol So anyone from Regina, pm me and get yourself a bottle of free juice! It's not bad, just not my style :)

Or if you're in Canada, but you're paying the shipping ;)
