On the recent underway onboard our ship (a nuclear powered aircraft carrier with probably 1500-2000 smokers), a small number of people began to use PVs. None of them have looked back, including myself. There are several reasons that a person on a warship might want to switch over to one of these devices, which mirrors the challenges smokers face all across America. Due to constraints on the places in which we may introduce a lighted cigarette, we have but only 4 spaces on the ship which each have their own maximum capacity on the number of sailors allowed in at one time (typically 25-40 depending on the space). A PV allows us to ignore most of these restrictions to our analog counterparts. Normal professional standards apply, it's still not something you'd want to get caught doing while walking in uniform, which is perfectly acceptable.

I'm grateful that we have a chain of command that had the common sense to see fit to allowing us to use these devices. I can imagine that there will be some commands that will not fully accept electronic cigarettes due to personal preference of the higher-ups or because there aren't messages containing information on their use. Naturally, I can see someone saying that they still aren't good for you thus providing the reason for a service-wide ban, but I don't think that's going to happen since it is currently Navy policy to get as many people to quit smoking cigarettes as possible.

Mostly, I'd like to say thank you to all of the honest companies involved in this venture and in particular to Vapor4Life, which will hopefully have numerous more customers from our ship.

Thank you indeed for your service. I did my time in the Army, and until now that was probably my proudest achievement. SOmetimes, I think I should have stayed in. Especially when I realize that if I had I could be retired with full pension by now.

But to get back on topic, I am glad to hear e-cigs are having success, at least in some commands. I can think of a LOT of benefits over analogs, especially in duty stations like ships and subs.

And congratulations on your and your shipmates success. :thumb:
