what do you do to keep from smoking analogs?

I have had about 6 cigarettes in the last three days. I hit my three weeks analog free and then Wednesday came and I discovered that my 4-year-old son has a growth on the inside corner of his eyelid. It may or may not be cancerous...will not know until they cut it off and send it to pathology. To make matters more stressful, they cannot do the surgery until May and it will be getting larger all the while.

I have tried so very hard not to pick up the analogs but each time I do have one, I truly feel much better. I spent time meditating on this and decided it was a psychological thing and yet I cannot master the mind over matter in this instance.

What do you great V4L fam members do in times of crisis or great stress to keep from buying/smoking analogs? I need help please!

Oh Kat, I'm so sorry honey. I haven't a clue as what to tell you as I haven't had any situation such as this. But you know what, if you hit that 3 week analog free once, you can do it again. You won't give up vaping as you enjoy it so much. Give it time. Sometimes the mind over matter thing isn't very easy. And if the analogs win for awhile, so what. You'll be back soon enough. My prayers go out to you and your family !!

The biggest thing is not to beat yourself up over it. That's a lot going on at one time, and whatever helps you deal with it, do it at this point. For me, when I crave a cig, I go with a higher nicotine level. When I'm really stressed, I chain vape (I've done 3ml of juice over the span of an hour.... When my grand dad had a heart attack last year I smoked two packs of cigs in that same span, so yeah.....). Part of it is psychological.... How better to beat yourself up than a cig? No bruises, rush if nicotine, destructive to your body.... Going onto this forum really helps me as well. We're all here for you Ms. Katalyst.

Snow sir had some of the best advice on this. I'll try to find the thread...

Here is what I have tried:

(1) Upping the nicotine levels. Even though I generally vape at 4 or even 0(!), I have hit as high as 24 mgs when I've been tempted to smoke analogs.

(2) Chain-vaping at lower levels. I make sure that I have adequate supplies and keep the PT handy!

(3) I make sure that I don't have easy access to analogs. None in the house, none in the car. If they're in the store, and you have to go out for them, make it a chore.

(4) And no less important, focus on the positives of vaping. You smell better, you feel better, you're saving money, you're saving your life.

Kat, I pray everything goes well for you and your son.

First of all, I'm sorry you're going through this. Truly.

Second of all, MAY??? Do you have an HMO??? Waiting that long is ABSURD!

Third...I agree with Morandir with getting some high nic juice for these situations. Also, I don't know what flavors you're using, but time like these call for high nic/strong flavor. If you like mint/menthols...strong flavors are easy. If you don't, you may want to try some coffee or tobacco flavors.

Either way, hang in there and do whatever it takes to get through this for both you and your son (even if it means an occasional analog to keep you sane during this time).

Katalyst....I really wish I could answer your question....If the same type situation happened here, well....I don't know if anything could comfort me. Worrying about your children is the worst...I'd probably break too.

What I can give you is what I choose when I have that craving..........I go for the strong flavors. One of the best I have found thus far is the licorice.....It has that hard th and what I call "lung hit"....you know where you can feel the hit all the way down like you do with a ciggy.....I also have some higher nic to alternate (cause I can only do the licorice flavor for so long).

Best Wishes...your son and rest of the family will be in my thoughts and prayers! BTW...MAY?????? I think I'd go to a different doc for a second opinion and a quicker date.....What kinda doc did you see? Reason I ask.....My son had eye lid growths too...went to statcare and was told they were stys (what I kinda thought) and while he gave me meds, he also referred us to an opthamologist.

I am very sorry to hear what you and your son are going through.

The best tips I know have already been posted, but I agree with the higher does of nic and chain vaping lower dosages. Also if you have 0mg sitting about try VG juices, they won't dry out your mouth as much and there is something soothing about that silky feel of the vapor.

You and your son will get through this though. Just stay strong, mom strong.

Im really sorry that your having a hard time, please try to keep a possitive attitude,it will be best for your son. They feel our fear and it scares them.I was just told that I have a severe infection and a tumor in my head and the last thing I want to do is freak out my kids.I keep telling them that we just have to see what happens and find out what we are supposed to do next.No big deal. The thing that has helped me vape wise is having plenty of fresh, new cartos. Not worrying about refills and stuff.I refill when Im up to it,and if not I get a new one.Do whatever it takes to make it easier.A friend just offered me a GC so I can have new cartos for my Dr.s visits.Theres nothiong better than a fresh carto when your stressed out.

Thank you everyone so much for your kind words and your suggestions. I don't have anything higher than 11mg but will put in an order for some as soon as I can afford to.

We had already been to several docs and ended up finally with the Chief & Professor of Opthomology in Pediatrics at Children's Hospital and I was told we are first priority should there be a cancellation. I feel good about the doc and the amazing people at children's but cannot believe it will take so long! It will take a lot of strength to get to May, but I can do this!

So sorry to hear about your son & the situation Katalyst. Prayers for you, your family and your doctors.

If you don't want to smoke then don't, but if you do want to have one now & then don't beat yourself up for it. Higher nic & stronger flavors will help. Don't forget to give yourself a time everyday to just relax and do something that doesn't have anything to do with what's going on - even if it's only 5 minutes locked in the bathroom alone. If you lived closer I'd bring you some & a hug too.

That is kinda actually a good thing imo....if the Opthamologist was overly concerned, I would think he would bump lesser cases or squeeze you in somewhere.....gives you something to be optimistic about:).....and Children's Hospital....bravo! I love hospitals that specialize!!!!

More hugs comin your way....and prayers too.

I have nothing to add, but I just wanted to say my thoughts are with you. It is impossible to deal with a sick child as a mother. You just can't wrap your head around the fact that something is wrong with your baby. And to have to be in limbo for 2 months over it, I can't even imagine. I feel for you, I really really do.

Hopefully all will be well with him. I have to agree with Keelala in the fact that if they were THAT concerned, they would get him in faster. It will be okay, even if it is cancer. My mother had much the same thing when she was 16 months old (in 1955) and it turned out to be cancer and it was cured, in the 50's. She is blind in that eye due to the radiation (again 1955, they didn't know what they were doing). These days, that shouldn't happen. She is now 57 years old (her birthday party is today) and is perfectly healthy. It will be harder one way, but either way, it will be okay, I promise!
