I get a whole lot of questions from friends and family about vaping... I would say about 75% of the ones that smoke end up trying it out.. so I guess that is a big yes from me.

I get a great feeling when long-time, high-volume smokers convert. I think about the years that they are adding to their lives.. and since the majority of them are either related to me, or close friends, that is an extremely good thing! haha. :D

Hello All,

I come from a family of smokers (not proud of it but is the truth), my mom smokes, my dad smoked (he quit about 3y ago after 30y smoking), 2 of my four sisters smoke. I have quite a few friends and other family members who smoke. When we have family reunions about half the people are outside smoking.

I am very new to e-smoking, only about 2 weeks. I have introduced the e-cig to some as I have opportunity. One of sisters (20 years smoker) tried my pen style and was very impressed; she said “I think I can do this”. She is an acupuncturist and believes it would make a great alternative for some of her patients who have tobacco related health issues. She didn’t like the pen style look very much though so I ordered a DSE901 to see if she likes it better.

Of course after reading in this forum that is not true the e-cig is health risk free as many sellers claim I am a little hesitant to push it. There are so many unknowns and yet to be discovered issues. All I can offer them is my personal experience. I haven’t had a cigarette since I started, the e-cig was a substitute for me and I definitely feel better.

I think it is really the need or desire that has helped me.
I used to spend 15-30 minutes every morning in one long coughing fit.
As well as sever small coughing attacks through out the day.
Between that and all the CT scans of cancer I see every day at work I knew it was only a matter of time.
Since I started about 1 month ago I only smoke 3-6 cigs a day (accept for the day my my 03 Ram 1500 was stolen, proly smoked 30 that day, and yes it was totaled on recovery).
My coughing is was down, I smell better and have a better sense of taste.
I will stop analogs soon and I will not go back, (US gov be damned).
So in one month from 1.5 pack a day down to 3-6 a day and feeling much healthier, I dont know why people wont try but they just wont.
One day they will wake up and realize they have to get rid of the tar I just hope it is not too late.

It's strange, isn't it? Quite a few ppl at work have asked me about them, but no-one has followed it through and they are all still smoking cigarettes afaik. I think you are right Cash - like giving up smoking, it is something a person has to want for themselves. I am not sure why I was so sold on the idea of ecigs in the first place really. A colleague told me about them after he had seen someone with one who he had spoken to (he has one, but I have never seen him use it). I was fascinated and looked it up online straight away. Bought a supermini, then found this forum and immediately changed to a mini and later, bought a penstyle (all within a week, lol). I never intended giving up smoking, but it has happened and I am obsessed. I have batts charging all over the place each evening. With the price of electricity in the UK, it must be costing a fortune.

I was sold on e-cigs because I was going through an 8-month long quit attempt. I was doing well, but I knew I was going to go back to smoking eventually. I just missed it so much. Upon seeing an online ad for the Gamucci e-cig, I knew I had to get one (an e-cig, not a Gamucci specifically). I've only smoked 3 analog cigs since June of 2008.

My brother and several smoking friends have been intrigued by my e-cig, but none of them have switched so far. My brother doesn't think e-smoking is for him, but one of my friends usually asks to take a drag whenever we're somewhere smoking isn't allowed and he sees me puffing away.

I might be buying some as Christmas gifts for this year... we'll see.

It may be that is too new. Most people haven’t heard about it. The ones that have and don’t make the change may be concerned with the initial investment and wasting their money if they don’t like it, the fact that there is not enough evidence that is healthier, the availability and difficulty of getting supplies. For example I like the ability to just buy regular cigarette around the corner if I’m out so I found a local smoke shop that carry crown7 cartridges that I can drain and use the liquid in an emergency (sometimes I am not a good planner). Anyways it will take more exposure and a little bit of time to spread around.

I recently talked to the owner of the smoke shop about e-liquid. He has never heard of it, he didn’t know self refilling was an alternative. He just carries the crown7 e-cig and the cartridges because he knows the owner of crown7 (we are in Arizona and crown7 is an Arizona company). I don’t own a crown7 and the reviews for that e-cig are not good so I wouldn’t recommend my friends buying it from the smoke shop, however a lot of people I know would prefer the flexibility of going to a local store and acquire the products instead of buying from the internet. I think that’s why products like smokingeverywhere (which I tried and in my opinion is bad) and smoke51 are having success with the mall kiosks at attracting new buyers. I think that it would be easier for us to sell the idea to other smokers once the e-cig market is expanded to local stores and is more accessible.

I was the only person in the city I'm living in now, but I recently turned my co-worker onto it after she saw me using it during work. She's a heavy smoker, about three packs a day, and she was very interested in what the e-cig had to offer. A few months later she's happily vaping a 901 - two weeks into it and she informed me that she is now down to one pack every two or three days and couldn't be happier.

I have been on the e-cig bandwagon for about 4 months. I work in a complex with about 500 people, and I see many, many, many on smoke breaks every day. A friend at work told me he had seen an e-cigarette on the Internet [yes, the smokingeverywhere brand] and we psyched each other up to the point where we both made the purchase. I initially was vaporizing indoors, but then realized we were missing an opportunity to "show off" in the regular smoking area. Since then, we have shown TONS of people the technology, and one of the things I think that holds people back is they see that every other week I have a different device. They know that these things aren't real cheap, and even after I explain to them the "very valid" reasons I had to buy another one, they think that the previous 5-6 devices must have been bad. Either that or they see me smoking a "real" cigarette (as I still do on occasion) and think that the e-cig has failed. I explain that it isn't a cessation program, and that if you "accidently" quit that it's merely making a choice of preference, but many still see it as NRT at the core. I've successfully converted 2 folks, and they couldn't be happier with it!

EDIT: Make that 3!

I have several family members and friends who smoke, and I've tried to convert them, but to no avail. I think it's like a lot of others have said...you have to want an alternative. I also think it has quite a bit to do with the fact that the whole ecig process is much more time/skill intensive than smoking real cigs...the technique involved in smoking, the many nuances of operation...it's been said 100 times on here but I'll say it again. Ecigs are not at the moment a mainstream ready product. We are guinea pigs and beta testers. Its an enthusiast/hobbyist movement at the moment. More and more of us come here every day though...so the demand is there...and the suppliers are pretty dedicated to their customers...I think there is a great future in all of this. But yeah. I'm the only person who vapes that I know.
