am now a proud owner of a P+!!!! woot!

actually am impressed... coming from a neurotically OCD ex-machinist... that's something. the only thing i disagree with... the button itself can rotate which renders the lock useless... just a thought... otherwise it's flawless. all threads look right, everything functions smoothly. I have 2 different ideas to fix that problem with the button... but i'll keep them this time around maybe i'll put those ideas in my own PV someday...

How does it render the lock useless? I've never had the lock fail once it's locked.

I think useless may be a bit strong, I dont use the lock a ton but it is functional, just takes an extra step to activate. Another forum member and I and David had a discussion about why the button rotates and how that could be changed. What I gathered from David was that it is too involved to do it, on top of the fact that it adds more places for arcing. It also sounded like it would add cost to the P+ as well. Either way, I find that the lock is just as quick to activate as other pv's, especially the type of lock that unscrews to keep the button in place. Simple design is part of the reason I like the precise so much, glad that you like it, the rhodium will treat you well, gotta love the no polishing of contacts.

We don't talk about the lock much...
It took a little while to get used to it and for the mechanism to break in a bit, but once I did it became second nature to turn it whatever amount and lock it. I can do it blind now and very quickly. In fact it's the only lock I consistently use because others are such a PITA.

...key the button. or make the button shaft hex, square, or other non rotating shapes.... a key would be easy. SUPER easy.

We've experimented with several other designs as suggested, including a key way in the shield and corresponding button and what we found is that squared surfaces do not produce as smooth of switch action as the round, full floating design in the Precise. Not just vertical, but Lateral (sideways) loads are applied each time you press the button, and these lateral loads are not as compatible with squared surfaces and the button tends be more catchy and not as smooth. A oval design may work, but i know from experience, it would cost twice as much and the current design is already very expensive to begin with.

We wanted the smoothest button possible, and a round, full floating design is the best possible. Having to take a couple of extra seconds to align the lock mechanism is a no brainer and becomes second nature. We believe the PrecisePlus button to have one of the best locking mechanisms and smoothest action (and longest life) in the industry.

i'll go with that... the only other small gripe would be the need to completely tear apart, rebuild it to put a 18490 or 18500 in there (swapping O rings)
