Been vaping for over a year. Started with the disposables and quickly switched to a TW curve which i still use and love but wanted a better product that uses rechargable batteries so bought a provari mini. Just the device, not the kit so it only cost me $50. I love the device but I cant get the throat hit to match the Curve. I use the same clearomizer, coil and juice on both (CS Air tank, 1.5 ohm dual coil, menthol @ 3.5v). With the curve I get a really good blast/TH and flavor but with the provari both are milder. I increased the voltage to 3.7, 3.8, 4.0. At these higher voltages the TH gets increasingly harsh. Any suggestions?

Have you tried upping your volts on the ProVari? And welcome!!!

"Throat hit" is most determined by the nicotine concentration in the e-liquid, and less so the concentration of Pg (propylene glycol) in the Pg/Vg ratio of the e-liquid.

The battery device used should not factor into how much "throat hit" one gets. The battery device is simply supplying electrical power to the heating coil of the tank.

Having said that, as a long time Provari user, there are many owners who believe a Provari provides a "smoother vape". Back in the day, this was a highly controversial topic. It seems the Provari processor chip has a PWM (pulse width modulation) of over 800 hz . Many of the cheaper mods of Chinese origin used a cheaper chip set which only had a PWM of 33.3 - 65 hz. This lower frequency was audible to some users, and was often referred to as the "Rattlesnake Effect". It is believed that this difference in PWM results in what some people can experience as a "smoother vape" with a Provari, and a somewhat "harsher" vape (better throat hit?) with the less sophisticated processor chip.

Why Mods that Use the Cheap 33.3 Hz Chip don't Vape the Same as a Provari, DNA-20, etc

I don't know if this is the phenomenon that you are experiencing or not, but its what came to my mind as a possible explanation. I personally had a dislike for the Chinese mods that used the 33.3 Hz chip; it resulted in what I experienced as a harsher vape compared to my Provari's. Could this be the throat hit you describe? Because there were many vapers who preferred the "Rattlesnake Effect" of the Chinese mods.

Why Provari?

I've been using MVP 20W for quite some time. I ordered some Coolfire 4s a while back and noticed I got better TH with those than with the MVPs. The CF's are in mod heaven now, so I've been rotating 2 MVPs. One of those died, and I dug out a Disrupter I had put away and noticed I got better TH with that as well. Using same wattage all around. At least in this case, the device did seem to make a difference.

At one point, I tried increasing the watts up a bit on the MVP, but I didn't notice a difference, so I adjusted back down and just lived with it.

The MVP is one of those few mods which uses a higher PWM frequency like a Provari does. Why Mods that Use the Cheap 33.3 Hz Chip don't Vape the Same as a Provari, DNA-20, etc

Baditude it's funny you should mention the "smoother" vape you get from your Provari. You hit the nail on the head. When I was writing my original post I planned to explain that the provari gives me a smoother TH but I thought I wouldn't be explaining it right. Thanks for explaining.

I do like buying American and love the provari quality of the device and its warranty so my curve has been relegated to be my emergency device. As with everything else, with time I'll get used to that smoother vape.

BTW in all this time I've only been able to go from 24mg to 12mg nic and know more nic provides more TH. I hope to get down to 4 or 5 but my vape shop says any lower I wont get much TH at all. After over a year of vaping I hoped to get past that but havent so far.

I'm into my 5th year of vaping. I've dropped my nic level from 18mg down to 3mg over that period. I could probably go zero nicotine at this point, but I still enjoy a "little bit" of nic in my vape.

I've even tried vaping straight Vg (vegetable glycerin), no flavor or nic. It's not too bad. It's naturally semi-sweet (its used as a sweetener in a lot of foods). But without any throat hit to gauge my vape, I tend to take too deep of a draw and end up coughing.

I'm one of those that immediately sensed a difference between a ProVari and another mod providing power to the same tank. If you don't like it though, it's worth looking for a way to "adjust".
I AM surprised that an extra tenth of a volt or two didn't compensate - but perhaps alternatively, you can experiment with different coils or tanks - if available. For instance, you might find that the ProVari with a 1.2 ohm coil gives you the warmth/kick that you like...while it didn't with higher resistance. Just a thought - I don't know your tank and what's available...

Train thanks for the advice. I have thought about trying a different tank and coils with lower ohms. I need to keep the cost down though. Any suggestions? And do you recommend dual or single coils?

BTW, since I posted this am I have been experimenting with sucking in a different manner - dont know if this is the correct term. Same equipment, same voltage. More of a long draw. Seems to be giving me a better TH. Thought I'd mention it in case someone else with the same issue happens to read this thread.

I purchased one Provari 2.5 that I haven't used yet and had planned on purchasing a few more to be my Vapocalypse go-to regulated mods. I have to re-think that now. I don't want to spend the rest of my days with a less-than-satisfactory vape experience. I'll have to look for what the next most reliable regulated mod might be.

Can you please clarify why you think this would happen with the P*2.5. :pop:

Milder throat hit like the MVP (as explained by Baditude). It's too mild for me. I much preferred the TH of the Coolfire 4 and the Disrupter. I have to say, I didn't care much for the look of the Provari either but was willing to overlook it for its reputed reliability. Now I will be looking for the most reliable box mod. It can be older tech- it doesn't have to be over 20-30 watts for me.

the smoother vape from a ProVari is what most ProVari owners prefer ... it is quite noticeable.

you should try that ProVari you bought ... we've been waiting 5 years for what the next most reliable regulated mod might be.

I have a MVP pro 3 and noticed it gives a smoother vape, which I like. If fires a straight hit, no ups or downs or lags, just smooth. Maybe I should look into getting a Provari. There is a 40 and a 50 watt. Warranty is awesome on them and from what I hear, they are built to last.

Inka now is the time. I certainly couldn't have afforded the whole kit at around $200. Provape has several of their devices (only the device, no tank) on sale right now for $35-50.

BTW, I bought the mini rather than the regular size because I wanted small, as well as American made and a decent warranty. I dont know how much you vape but to give you an idea, an 18350 800mAh battery lasts me 10-11 hrs (I vape about 4mLs of juice/day @ 3.5v).

The mini wouldn't last me. I use a Kanger subtank mini and vape around 25 watts and about 15ml juice a day. I'm a chain vaper. I was looking at the 40 and 50 watt Provari's.
