After nearly a year of vaping I'm starting to develop a high tolerance to throat hit. BTW I'm an ex Gauloises brunes smoker. Without a massive TH, vaping (and smoking for that matter) always seemed sort of pointless to me. It seems like TH is getting weaker by the day and I'm almost tempted to light a big Havanna and inhale just to feel my lungs scream. It drives me bonkers when I drag on my PV, big plumes of vapour but no TH anymore. In the very beginning of vaping I was almost coughing after a drag but now nothing...

Has anyone else who's a TH junkie experienced this? If so, what's your best pratice? Is there a way to "re-sensitise" the throat? Or do you have to increase the voltage? Change atties? BTW I could care less about nicotine. I actually want to decrease nic but keep the same TH of my bad old Gauloises.

There are probably a lot of things you could try, ranging from the inexpensive and up. I don't know what equipment you're using now, so I guess increasing the voltage would be a possibility. This wouldn't be my first choice because if you keep doing this, eventually you're going to run out of safe voltages to go to, plus I think at the higher voltages you run the risk of burning the flavor right out of a juice.

You could try 'doctoring' your juices. I've read that small amounts of pure grain alcohol (PGA)/Everclear, cinnamon, and even pepper can increase the throat hit. I know Vapor Renu offers their juices with customization of throat hit, and I believe they do that by adding the PGA to their juices.

I don't know how you'd actually go about re-sensitizing your throat to the hit other than taking a TH 'holiday', much like they do for people taking chronic pain medications- you go without the specific medication you've built up a tolerance for until you've cleared it from your system so that it will start working again at smaller doses. It may be that powering through a couple weeks of a "smooth" vape with allow you to get back to getting a throat hit with whatever was doing it for you before.

Thank you for the hints. It seems like I'd have to take a few extreme measures. I'll check out Vapor Renu. I hope they ship to Europe. So far I could resist going back to burning tobacco. I'm vaping on all sorts of M401 and 510 gear but as I said it got weaker for me. I know that it didn't objectively as some of my smoking friends were coughing quite heavily trying my PVs. It's perhaps just me and time...

Edit: I've noticed that the widely dreaded "burnt taste" is exactly what I'm after as that is what gives me a somewhat accepatble TH. I start to think that there's something wrong with me. I can't get off the classic burning tobacco for maximum TH. That's actually worrying. There must be some other way to get the kick without burning stuff.

From my experience the single biggest factor when it comes to TH is warmth (and of course volume) of vapor. That's best achieved by going to a higher voltage or using LR attys. Other than that, the easiest (and free) way to get more TH is by method of inhalation - directly inhaling into your lungs = maximum TH. If you're currently inhaling into your mouth first, and then inhaling some air to get the vapor down into your lungs, that significantly cools and decreases the volume of the vapor, and so it minimizes the TH. If that's what you're doing, try the direct to lung inhalation, otherwise increase the voltage of your battery or lower the resistance of your atomizer.

there's apparently a new product by FlavorArt...
Fumo elettronico :: QHIT - Flavourart. La sartoria degli aromi

Qhit.
"A quantum of HIT.
We are glad to announce a new innovative product. Qhit is a nicotine free e liquid designed to mimic the nicotine hit."

and this first opinion from an FA thread over in DIY ejuice forum by someone who's tried it, PureVapes...
"The QHit is not very strong unless used at high percentages, but it does give the TH a real body unlike anything I've had before. As they state, it's much more effective at high voltages where your atty can get much hotter, or if you vape it a little dry. It's very similar to a cigarette but less hot and harsh. It doesn't really make it to my lungs but cigarette hit didn't either. I've asked Max if he'll produce a more concentrated version and he said he would see if he could."

TH *is* the experience for me, too.
looking most forward to testing out this product.

I don't care for much throat hit. A little is good, but I was an 2PAD ultra light smoker. I am fine with 100% VG juices because of the large vapor cloud. DK-TAB in VG packs a pretty good throat hit in itself. I'm finding that when I order juices with a mix selection, 70pg/30vg is a little on the heavy side. I'm better off with 50/50 or a little higher on the VG side.

If you smoke regular tobacco flavor, something called Tobacco Absolute diluted, from Perfumers Apprentice, should help. The "diluted" is with pure grain alcohol. I suspect others sell it, just not sure who.

I use it to add "kick" to tobacco flavors, just 3 or 4 drops per 10ml of liquid that you're vaping should be noticeable. I accidentally mixed something with more TA in it -- whoops :)

It's also been discussed before that tolerance for throat hit do disappear and come back after a few days too, take it easy and see if it changes or if you can light just 1, 2 or maybe 3 gauloises a day, it wouldn't be so bad for your health. Anyway, you must be a real throat hit addict, I tested many years before a gauloise and still remember it quite vividly, it was really too much to handle for me!! :)

p.s. do I see a trend that as time passes everyone is switching to a higher voltage to get more throat hit? Will it end or will we end up at 100 000 volts frying our lungs?

I've been perfectly content with tobacco flavors @6v using 510 carto's for a few months now. I get warm, lung filling vapor that I can feel and plenty of throat hit even at 12mg. I tried EVERYTHING before that, but nothing really satisfied.

Riva w/ LR Atty. It's a done deal w/ TH. Try upping the voltage or even different juices. I notice that different brands of juice give a way harder TH.

From my experience:
Viking Vapor - Mostly smooth and great flavor
Ms T's - Little harder TH and bolder flavor
Tasty Vapor - Hard TH and intense flavor
