Funny how the anti-smoking terrorists still insist that smokers need help as in intervention with their addiction problems!! My gosh, this sounds very "Global", doesn't it.

When a person, who is recuperating, is amongst friends and is forced to take a puff, e-cigs might come in handy. But in the long run, de-addiction and rehabilitation are the key.”
Don't click on this one>>>>(It's a teaser at the top of the page) it's a blind ad for SmokingStick e-cigs, with about a hundred pop-ups to boot!

Great find, htchhikr!!

And in the same publication: Years of smoking reduces Parkinson's risk - The Times of India

Current smokers were 44 per cent less likely to develop Parkinson's disease than people who had never smoked. People who had smoked in the past and quit were 22 per cent less likely to develop Parkinson's than people who had never smoked.

People who smoked for 40 or more years were 46 per cent less likely to develop Parkinson's disease than people who never smoked. Those who smoked for 30 to 39 years were 35 per cent less likely to have the disease than nonsmokers. In contrast, those who smoked for one to nine years were only eight per cent less likely to get the disease.

The risk of developing Parkinson's disease did not change based on how many cigarettes a person smoked per day.

I am in hopes that my continued use of nicotine will stave off the ravages of Lewy Body Disease that my mother has. Lewy Bodies are proteins in the brain that affect both mobility and cognition. And of course, since I get my nicotine without the smoke, I'm 99.9% certain (even without randomized clinical trials) that my risks of heart disease, lung disease, and cancer have been dramatically reduced.

Excellent post, Vocalek, I'm totally in agreement....think I'll just stay at 24mg per day, I sort of like it this way!
My daughter's 12 year old has ADHD, doctor was asked to discontinue the meds he was on, his grades fell in a hole! He was not in control, he was controlled to numbness.
Dr. then asked about the Nicotine based treatment. She declined, they are doing behavioral training, (my thing too, all my life with ADD!) but she was curious enough to ask me about it. I told her just what we've talked about, but she still a lot leery of nicotine addiction risks. I really need to do more research too, I have not seen any easily found as yet, just general nicotine information. More to come, I'm hoping.

Thanks very much, bookmarked it! Come to think of it, this might help my daughter's pain-killer addicted father become human again....that would be something!..he's 300 pounds, his back and legs hurt, and he get's headaches. Well of course he does! He used to smoke 2-3 packs a day of Lucky Strikes, he could keep his weight down then, hmmmm....makes sense to me.

Thanks to VocalEk's interesting link above, I ran across these:

Nicotine as therapy
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC526783/

and

...Cigarette research and Astrazeneca's antidepressand deal...
http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2009/12/03/cigarette-research-and-astrazenecas-antidepressant-deal/

Both new to me and very interesting reading.

Last October, I wrote about this in my blog (The Truth About Nicotine: Search results for targacept):

If there was any doubt that nicotine is truly a wonder drug, the existence and activities of the company Targacept should lay these doubts to rest.
.
.

There is a lovely color chart on their Product Pipeline page: http://www.targacept.com/wt/page/pipeline

Targacept was a spin off from one of the tobacco companies. It is working with AstraZeneca to bring its nicotine-based products to market.

Wow, while I'm glad to see that the Doctor in India is pro-electronic cigarettes, I couldn't help but see the comments by Arjun Rangarajan - Coordinator of the anti-tobacco advocacy group: "...but in the long run de-addiction and rehabilitation are the key." de-addiction?!?!?!!? now they're just making words and phrases up! So much for "science/evidenced based"
