The wife's sister, Cher, graduated in '86, so there is a chance you knew her rik701.

Marion City County Council included e-cig's in the definition of smoking in the smoking ban passed this year. We had members there at the meetings, but our words had no effect and the mayor signed it, so Indy has banned vaping in, and within 8' of, workplaces.

We were just blindsided by the Johnson County Commisioners when they defined smoking as, "...lighting of any cigarette, cigar, pipe, e-cigarette, or any other lighted smoking equipment." I'm not sure the commisioners understand what a lighting an e-cigarette means any more than I do....but it was snuck in there nonetheless. http://wcsi.whiterivernews.com/news_pdf/MX-3501N_20121105_093009.pdf (Link for folks that may think that wording is too silly to ever be true.)

So all of Johnson county has a ban and we have a few towns that are exempt from the Marion ban, but it makes Indy area vape meets more challanging.

(And the above is another reason the Hoosier Vapers needs more members who would like to be active because these ordinances keep popping up and they don't show any sign of stopping. We can only fight what active members see coming and we can only fight with the active members we have. We have only failed once when we had a chance to fight. We never had a chance in Johnson county...)

Well, the Johnson law doesn't go into effect until 1/1/2013. (I think that is what I remember, it was just passed a couple of weeks ago.) It will get more interesting to see how/if it is enforced when it goes into effect. There is no mention of e-cigs being part of it in any of the media reports. We won't know if that part is also left out of briefings for enforcement officers until it is enforced.

To become a member is easy. Go to hoosiervapers.com and sign up, it costs nothing but a few moments of your time.

If you would like to be active and part of the council then send an email to council"at"hoosiervapers.com, or use the Contact Us page, and say you want to be on the council after you sign up to be a member on the site. There are no fees for being a council member, but since we don't charge anything, the council members do cover club expenses out of our own pockets, but those dollars out of council members pockets are not required nor demanded from any council member.

If you want to be active, but not a council member, then sign up as a member. Send alerts to the council at council"at"hoosiervapers.com, or the Contact Us page, about laws being discussed in your area, shops opening up, sites that you think would be great for a vape meet, and etc. Commenting on posts at the Hoosier Vapers' website and Facebook page also are helpful as that increases our exposure.

Council meetings are on Wednesdays at 8pm via phone and a web interface, if you can. The phone part is the important part, but making vapor faces at each other on the web seems to be pretty popular for some reason. How often we meet changes. Sometimes it's once a week and sometimes it's every other week. We're getting better at sending meeting notices to the council lately as we sometimes forget what the meeting schedule is at the time. (Thank you DeTar)

We pretty much stick to the mission statement we have posted on our site. None of us is doing this for anything other than helping vapers and supporting vaping. All Hoosiers, former Hoosiers, ex-Hoosiers, people who have flown or driven over Indiana, and even Boilermakers are welcome to join Hoosier Vapers, but you must live in Indiana to be on the council. (For anyone who feels like I slighted Purdue grads, know that I'm a Purdue grad.)

Sorry, I need more that "this" as the quoted email below covers everything from the Johnson county law to Purdue and a few things inbetween.

I don't know if you mean the ordinace link I posted earlier http://wcsi.whiterivernews.com/news_pdf/MX-3501N_20121105_093009.pdf
Or the lack of e-cigs being included in any of the media reports like NEWS/TALK 1010 WCSI Radio - WCSI Weather - Columbus Indiana
or http://www.indystar.com/article/20121105/LOCAL04/121105010/Smoking-ban-approved-Johnson-County?nclick_check=1 or Johnson County passes tougher smoking law | 2012-11-05 | Indianapolis Business Journal | IBJ.com

Or even the lack of information we had ahead of time like this article Daily Journal - County smoking ban: Proposed rules stricter than state?s

Yes, there is a site redesign in the works as the thing is getting too stacked to navigate. I'm glad to see you've joined though!

Ah, the thing that is really responsible for the Hoosier Vapers forming into an actual club. (Before there was complete disorganization and we were more like a pick-up basketball game.)

The HV post about it Indy Mayor Signs Smoking/Vaping Ban – Hoosier Vapers

MCC did not sneak it in, they were very up front about it and there was mention in the media reports that e-cigs were included. HV members fought it every step of the way, as the following posts show. (Hopefully they work better on your system than they do mine as some are just not displaying well.)

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/hoosier-vapers/288521-marion-county-passes-smoking-pan.html

Johnson county was a different story as I showed with the links.

I have this notion that Smokefree Indiana, who had a hand in the MCC's bill, is also behind the ones we managed to fight back in South Bend, Lawrence, and Beech Grove, and that they have started to craft the bills' summaries and press releases in such a manner so that anything related to vaping is not mentioned. Granted, I have no proof, but it does seem odd that we fought once, lost, then went in 3 times and got e-cigs excluded, and now e-cigs are not mentioned until after a bill is passed and signed off. (Not to mention that the language of the Johnson county bill is an embarassment to the English language.) That's Hoosier's conspiracy theory of the moment...for now...

I just think its BS their still classifying ecigs/vaping as part of tobacco what can we do to help fight this anything at this point?

Sure, you can get resourses at CASAA and read up on the studies that have been done, then schedule meetings, write, and call your representatives. One state has repealed the inclusion of vaping in the meaning of smoking because of folks talking to reps. (And somehow getting some press on their side, which is something we've batted around quite a few times, but we have yet to encounter a "heavy hitter" in the Hoosier press that is willing to take up our banner and run with it.)
