I am in a long running PM convo with a member who is displeased with the moderation here, and one unusually draconian sandbox warden in particular. I mostly think it's pretty crazy, and I think it's just venting for him, so he doesn't go off at the half-.... and get himself banned. In general I approve of the strong moderation, and I think the vast majority of our mods are both great people and do a good job. If I wanted never ending flame wars, bellum omnium contra omnes, I'd go over to Reddit with my flamethrower, a knapsack full of anti personnel mines and a few nukes, and have at it. But I don't want that. That's why I am here. I prefer politesse and reasoned discussion and the occasional bit of, y'know, actual information, as opposed to the fevered rantings of Rambo-in-mom's-basement. And I spend no small amount of time preaching safety and endlessly answering the exact same 4 or 5 questions over in New Members, partly because I think we've got a pretty good thing going; partly because I know those questions, while stale to me, are fresh and important to our n00bs, who really need the help; and partly to pay my dues, to pay forward, in tiny measure, the great assistance and endless patience I have received.

But maybe I am wrong. I am greatly disturbed by today's events. I'm not making the impassioned liberty argument, Power to the People and all that hokum. This board is private property and the owners are free to do with it as they wish; I support and defend their right to do so. If, however, this is what they want to do, they have caused me to question whether or not I fit in around here after all. I think our n00bs will have to muddle through without me today. I may be on strike for better blogging conditions.

I've just gotten online and now am seeing all this.

First, rules have to enforced across the board. Business discussions, whether a new person coming to ECF and asking how to start up a vape shop, a rep for a company advertising, even beloved members (I really do love Roxy too) cannot discuss business.

I know it seems harsh. When we know the person it makes it harder emotionally, for me, to enforce the rules. Enforce them we must or else the next time we have to do it someone will get upset and cry favoritism.

Hopefully she is working it out with ECF Admin. I pray this gets worked out.

Thanks, Robin. I hope so too.

I do too! But one question, @Robino1 , why delete that whole thread? There was so much valuable information there useful to all of us who have one coming? Couldn't it just be archived so we could refer to it?

Sent from my HTC Desire Eye using Tapatalk

The way the forum software works, it basically removes the thread from view, when the Unresolved status is issued. It is still there, we just can't see it. That will have to be up to Misty whether or not it gets reinstated.

I do understand your angst. I'm sorry.

What a rotten, bureaucratic hall monitor-type mess.

Reminds me of my "real" life. And I ain't here for that....
If the rules weren't in place, how could you be sure that vendors weren't posing as regular members and recommending their product in the open forum? These rules insure that the reviews, recommendations and user experiences are based on actual consumers and not people pushing their product.

The big picture has to be looked at. YES THIS SUCKS but there are reasons for the rules that are in place. This is first and foremost a consumer based forum.

You are, of course, correct on all counts.
I'm all for consumer advocacy. I have some really good personal reasons to be.

But I don't like it when a nice, good, helpful person inadvertently runs afoul of rules.
Not for me to say whether the rules are "right" or not. Like suprtrkr said, it's a privately
owned forum.

And I do not need or want to get into an argument/debate of any sort. There is enough
friction, rancor, and suicidal malaise in my heart right now. I'm not in my right mind.

I get it, I really do. All I can say is I'm sorry. I truly am and my heart is breaking over this. <~ truly there are tears in my eyes right now.

Well then, that means YOU are a good and kind hearted person too. And it's equally abrasive that such an
obviously nice and well-intentioned person is (for whatever reason) suddenly the "face" of this.

I really hope I didn't hurt your feelings in any way, and I mean that with utter sincerity. I'm going through
a real real dark time in my life so "little" things (and whether or not THIS issue is "little" I can't decide) affect
me a lot more than they ought to. Please take no offence from what I said. I think we really are ALL friends here, right? :)

I get it, I really do. All I can say is I'm sorry. I truly am and my heart is breaking over this. <~ truly there are tears in my eyes right now.

Robin I think most of us understand why the rules are there & why they need to be applied! What I know I really don't understand is how they were applied in this situation! I personally saw this rule applied, in what I believe, a proper manner earlier this year! I don't remember the specifics of the thread but I do remember is it was started by a member that had joined that joined that day! He also wrote with an accent that made him really hard to understand! The thread lasted about 5 or 6 posts before it was reported by a veteran member and "SHUT DOWN" not removed! I completely understand the way the rules were applied in that situation! But my understanding ends there. If the thread in question was breaking the rules why was it not reported by the many Supporting Members and/or Veterans who were posting there? One of the things I love about ECF is that for the most part we police ourselves unless it's something that that needs to be handled by a Mod! I completely understand that you had nothing to do with this! I've just found a home that is easy for me to use (VU and FB suck) and I have alot of friends here (you included) and finding somewhere else to go isn't an option that I'm willing to consider at this point! Just had to get my thoughts out here!
EDIT: This took me along time to type so I missed posts!

you're doing a fine job, my friend. If I had your troubles, I'd be screaming. "I was angry I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet." Despite the day's trouble, don't forget we are in your corner as well.
Thank you, sir!
