I'd vote for the Ego or Riva if it's his first one. Replacement attys are cheap and easily available. My personal experience with the Leo is that the atty performance lost it's punch after about 2 weeks and they cost significantly more than replacement Ego attys. There are also a lot of atty types available for the Ego so he can try different resistance attys until he finds the performance he likes. As of right now there is only one resistance atty available for the Leo.

My personal favorite is the Leo, but it is pretty limiting (not compatible with anything else). A 510-based fat batt probably makes the most sense. Liberty-Flights is selling the 750 mAh two-battery/two-atomizer Riva-510 kit for only $30 (using 20% off coupon code: ecf). The Riva is fully compatible with all eGO parts (e.g., cartomizers) and accessories.
