So here we go.

I have just been buying mostly Halo, Jvapes, and Buck Naked since I started.

Then I decided to mix it up a bit and I purchased BRV Colonel Custard....

They don't print the VG/PG levels on the bottle so when I got home I started searching right away to figure it out. Low and behold I wind up here on this forum again only...wait...seems high profile people here are claiming every e juice sold carries a serious death risk from this "popcorn lung" diacetyl stuff.

I'm burnt out and crushed by this news...

1.) Sooo...How can I continue vaping if it 's as dangerous as people are saying?

2.) What companies are safe? I saw a thread to collect company names of legit/safe juice makers. Only to get to the end and others are saying the list is garbage...

3.) If it were that high of a risk or that fatal, why don't you hear about people dropping dead/being hospitalized?

4.) Do I now have to just toss my BRV Colonel Custard? Is BRV reputable?

I have more questions but I'll quit yapping for now.

PS

I saw plenty of debate threads on this topic so I'm not trying to rekindle the debate or anything.

I'm sitting here thinking..."Well, can't trust a single company now so what in the heck am I supposed to do to be safe?

There are a few simple options. First, realize that there are equally potent chemicals in tobacco smoke and continue on like normal. Second, identify which liquids have any of the flavoring chemicals you don't like and either don't buy or limit your consumption of them. Third, DIY your own liquid. Fourth, vape unflavored.

With that said, you as a vaper and as an adult need to make your own decision on which you wish to follow. I personally wouldn't worry too much unless I vaped a cream all day long.

On ECF, you should know that everyone has their own opinions. Some people may be biased towards or against certain vendors. It's not that vaping is dangerous, it's that a lot of people do this for health reasons and they don't want to inhale acetone or diacetyl. Just be careful with the juices you choose and try to find an ingredient list. If you're concerned with diacetyl content, contact the vendor. It's up to you what you want to do with your liquid.

I do realize there are plenty of chemicals in analogs. Carrying on as normal is what I would like to do.

Ok...your second point leads to a good example.

A popular thread here where a guy was assembling a list of reputable, safe vendors was toppled. Reason being, these chemicals are already present when a vendor orders flavorings w/e they mix.

Therefore, any ingredient list a vendor presents is not necessarily the entire picture no matter how ethical your vendor may be.

You would need information from their supplier.

Since that seemed to win the thread over, I have no idea now who is trustworthy.

I will look into DIY more.

When you vape unflavored does this eliminate a decent chunk of chemicals?

I know in the end it's up to me. Your last statement has basically described my state of mind as I continue to research things. Only

I apologize if I sound a bit naïve, I have not kept my ear to the ground in this industry (my fault). Making educated e-liquid purchases is all I am after. But the information seems so convoluted from one source to another I don't know which way is up at this moment.

Good questions/points Johny!

IMO it's really hard at this time to figure out what juices have diacetyl in them and which don't. IMO there is also no solid data or standard on how much diacetyl is OK for us to vape.

Now you could try to eliminate all diacetyl totally, but that could be difficult and might not be necessary.

I will look into DIY more.

IMO eliminating flavorings eliminates at least 99% of the diacetyl issue. It also eliminates any other chemicals that are in flavorings that could be a problem for us. If you can vape unflavored and stay off cigarettes I say do that.

Now this is my opinion only. YMMV :)

Vaping unflavored eliminates the flavorings, it becomes PG/VG, Nic. If you are very concerned about diacetyl and want to 100% remove that possibility, many folks actually find that they prefer unflavored once they try it. YMMV.

As far as reaching out to the vendors, the thought behind that is many who are reputable are involved with their flavoring companies - at least enough to check ingredients for diacetyl and other red flag chemicals. You would have to make your own determination after an email or phone call to said vendors if *you* have confidence in the information they provided to you regarding their knowledge of their product and its contents.

...

Yes. There are an infinite number of flavors so there are an infinite number of possible ingredients in flavors.

With unflavored you get pg, vg, and nicotine.
Other than that there are a couple other things they might add:
- a sweetner such as sucralose
- I recently heard some vendors add caffeine.
