Since I have a Provari, I don't need to have a meter to check the coil, right?

Right, but it's a good idea to test it at low voltage.

I just fired up my Drunker now, using the stock wick and coil. Ohm res is 2.4, filled with my usual DIY French Pipe tobacco flavor, firing with the Provari at 4.3v... Nice vape! I'm not overwhelmed by the quality of the thread connections however, and wouldn't expect it to last a terribly long time.

But if it turns out to be as leak proof as reported, this can be an inexpensive road warrior when out and about, in addition to if not replacing the Nova.

Now if someone would produce something very much like this out of some space age titanium alloy that is built to last, I would happily pay a few dollars more for it. A quick pic taken with the iPod Touch:

hehe, I'm not the posting police. Go for it!......

Thanks, I'll type it up and post it. I thought I should ask because there's another thread where the op was a little upset when some one posted some alternate methods to what he was showing. But you seem to be more easy going than that. :vapor:

....... I do use H2O2 to rinse off a coil after a dry burn, but I worry about letting it absorbed into an already wicked coil. Thoughts?

I think it's wise to research things, and I should have said 'consider using h2o2'. Just because I think it's safe doesn't mean that it is lol.

But my understanding is that H2O2 turns to water with heat, and it also dilutes out with water or alcohol or even juice. In other words, once it starts fizzin', it's converting to water.

Adeline or Donna, have you used your Provari to check ohms before adding juice?

I don't have a Provari, but it's my understanding that the Provari puts out a voltage when it checks the ohms. Since you want to check your coils before adding juice, I would think that could be a problem. Perhaps it's so brief that it doesn't burn the cotton?? Or perhaps just one drop of pg or vg on the coil before checking for protection.

edit: Oops, just seen this was already covered in post 240 from Adeline.

"But just be sure you do TWO things before you test on your ProVari:
1) If you already have wick in your coil, put some juice on it so you don't totally burn up your wick while scrolling through the menu to AO
2) Turn the voltage WAYYYY down before scrolling through the menu to AO. Just in case! "

Sorry 'bout that. :vapor:

Oh it absolutely will burn the cotton. After I made one of my first wick/coils, I was being an idiot (imagine that!) and fried my cotton wick in an INSTANT because I didn't think to wet the wick. It might fire at a low voltage, but on a dry cotton wick, that's instant cooking. Not to mention, you could fire at whatever volts you have the device set at before you get to the check the ohms feature... The 5x you mash the button to get to the menu system CAN and DOES (usually) fire the device.

That's why I recommended miamimom to drop a few drops on the wick before she checked ohms on the ProVari. More than a drop or two is best, since we are talking about unsoaked cotton, and the ohms checker fires for a few seconds.

I soaked it for all of 5 minutes. But then again, I'm not terribly fussy about flavor. As long as there's a smooth draw, strong TH and plenty of nicotine ( I vape about 30mg), I'm right as rain.

Soaking seems to reduce the tiny little fibers from burning. There's usually a pop when one burns but they're so tiny it doesn't effect flavor that I can tell. To much of it though, and you'll need to replace your wick sooner. For what it worth, here's my experience that I posted over in the 'different cottons' thread. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...nt-cottons-different-wicks-6.html#post8201255

Thanks for that JD1. It doesn't taste burnt to me at all, but I guess I've just learned something I didn't know before. I'll probably roll some tiny strands of 500 SS (of which I have plenty) and see if I can't make that work next time I'm feeling ambitious.

When you tear it down you can take a good look and see what you have.

I have one of my duds set up with ss with a couple layers of cheese cloth on top. The cheese cloth is even at the top, but extends down a little longer than the ss. That seems to have slowed down the run back I was getting with straight ss. I least I can get through a tank now without having to syringe out the last because the flavor has changed so bad.

That's another think I'm liking about the Drunker with cotton. I just vaped mine dry a little bit ago, and the juice was the same light amber color as in the bottle. I'm not sure if that would stay true with an ss wick.

I get zero color change in my juice. I start with crystal-clear juice. I can run 5 or 10 tanks through and still have crystal clear juice. Love it!

I love that it's not position dependant. I can vape it all the way to the bottom. I always put a drop or two on my coil before I check the ohms. I'm not going to bother trying to clean my coil and wick. I was planning on changing them today but it is still going so good I ended up refilling it instead.

I noticed that too, all of the sludge that normally collects on a wick seems less in the drunker and what does collect is contained away from the juice. I've been vaping on mine for a week and none of it has got into the tank.

I just placed a couple orders as I'm going to be building some vv mods, want to make a couple really nice ones. I have some expensive woods I use for making razor scales that should look nice.

Same here, and I just "cleaned" the coil today. It's nowhere near clean, but it's not dusty in the top portion!

Show us pics of the mods when you're done (or even in process). I think watching them come to life is amazing, and I like to admire others' handy work. My hands are great -- for computers, coils, and DIY. :p

Question:

Adeline, I went back to the beginning of this thread now that I'm going to be wicking and coiling this thing, and you're using nichrome 34 wire, which I do not have. Will the Drunker work with 32ga kanthal?

Thanks in advance!

Of course it will! That's one of the most popular wires to wrap with. Anything in the normal range will make a fine coil. Use what suits you best!
