Just rewicked my Drunker -- without recoiling.

Seems I didn't twist the yarn quite tight enough the first time.. It wasn't wicking perfectly.

I'm reasonably certain this will be much better.

But now I know you can rewick without recoiling (which means we can dry burn). As long as your wick isn't too thick to begin with!!

Re-did the yarn wick, with a yarn assist going over the coil. I think I really like that build. You can make your coils a tad smaller, and still get the 4-wick effect of the Drunker.

Just thought its time for me to chime in here..... I was reading this thread for a couple of weeks and ended up ordering 2 Drunker's. After 4 days of use here is what I have to report;

34 gauge nichrome wire, 2.8ohms (5/6 wrap 3/32 drill bit) with a cotton makeup pad wick at 15 watts (maxed out) on my Vamo

Ive made 10-12 wicks and found that 2 thin rolls of the cotton pads and a third piece where the coil goes worked the best for me. It was a challenge to get the best coil/wick setup for HV vaping but this setup when done correctly works perfectly! No burnt cotton, lots of vapor and only slight muting of flavor due to the heat.

This is my first RBA and im coming from DCT's. I honestly like the Drunker alot but, I cant say that I like it more than my DCT setup. They both have advantages and disadvantages, ie; shorter draw on the DCT for equal vapor, better flavor on the drunker.

I think that my ideal vape would be a dual coil Drunker, but I dont see that happening.

One way to approach a duel coil setup might be to fold the wire around the small leg of a small allen key, then grab it with your tweezers about an inch back and spin the allen wrench to wrap a tight leg for your negative side. On the positive end, just let both wires come down to the center pin for their connection. I haven't tried this, but it might be worth a shot.

A little known fact about resistive wire is that it will not short out if the coils are lightly touching. I first ran across that info from Mack in one of his posts and later some posts from MISTer E. So don't be afraid to try for a very close wrap. If one of the coils happens to touch, it won't short out. If you're not doing so already, try squishing your coils together on the drill bit. They'll spring back for close spacing without touching.

I wrap my coils side by side touching, closer the coil wraps the less likely to burn cotton and it doesn't short. When i first suggested wrapping coils like that it was kind of taken as heresy until others started experimenting with it. My theory is the path of least resistance is still the solid wire as aposed to the wraps lightly touching and even if there is a minute amount of electricity jumping through the wraps it doesn't take long for oxidation and juice gunk to nullify it.

Just got done welding nickel nr wire to 1 and a quarter inch 33 awg kanthal for my drunker for 1.8ohms installed. Letting it soak right now, but will have the heat response I like now. Let you guys know how it went!

The diagram posted by Mack is a good way to do it. In the first diagram, the main wick is white. In the second diagram the main wick is grey and the helper wicks are white.

Note that in the second diagram, the helper wicks just come up barely through the slots of the ceramic which hold them in place. They're on top the main wick.

Another way is to use a one piece helper wick and just lay it on top the coil.

I have both a drunker and a phoenix, some new kanthal a1 32awg, cotton balls, cotton pads and some SS mesh 450.

I am just getting started with RBA/RBT and have been following this thread and a few others pretty carefully. Typically I am a pretty hands on DIY person (furniture, home, auto, electronics, computer, etc.) and would like to make sure I see clearly before I take action.

Thank all of you for your input on this thread, I have found it very helpful that acronyms, technical and plain speak are both used.

I cut them after boiling. Not sure how well it would work if you did it before. Boiling does thing to the structure of these cotton types -- you likely wouldn't end up with the same shape/size...

I cut them after boiling. Not sure how well it would work if you did it before. Boiling does thing to the structure of these cotton types -- you likely wouldn't end up with the same shape/size...

You just feed some strands up from a cotton pad to put a thin layer of cotton over the ss, as shown in the second video on this page. Quigsworth1 - YouTube

Take a look at the first video for wrapping with string. Another way to use cotton is to roll the ss in a couple layers of cheese cloth.

I just took a look at this. Very interesting! And looks easy to do and I've got lots of cotton! I'll try it

so this is basically a vivi nova with a ceramic cup. this same device without the rubber caps holding the wire would be something really really good.

It required patience and practice before I mastered it. No one is looking. It does not need to be pretty. Remember: The cotton rounds take in a lot of juice and increase in size while in use.
