I'm kind of mixed on the idea of "not trying to quit" analogs and just letting it happen- I'm sure it works for some but it didn't for me. I subscribe to mind over matter in as much as you have to truly want to stop, and you have to get past some tough urges to light up. I agree completely that you shouldn't beat yourself up if you slip, but think of it as slipping on skates or falling off a bike (or making a mistake at whatever you like to do) - not cheating- ... try and think about how you might do something to get past the same urge the next time you have it, so you don't slip again ... maybe it's upping the nic, changing the juice you're using or getting up and going for a walk- only you will be able to figure it out... what's most important is that you keep trying to get past the urges - one at a time.

I know some folks claim that they just smoked analogs less and less over time till they no longer wanted them- maybe that will work for you, but it didn't for me. I found myself smoking more plus vaping more with that approach. Whatever was in the cigarettes had me craving analogs when I vaped- so I'd get an urge, then vape and then light up 5 minutes later....

Why do they put 3999 other chemicals in cigarettes? To keep you addicted. It's not discussed much here as we tend to focus on what's in our juice or what device we're holding as opposed to what's missing, but there are a lot of other chemicals beyond the nic in analogs that drive those urges. For some of us the urges/addiction are stronger than others. I'm now 6 weeks without an analog - weeks more than I've gone in 35+ years.

While I originally thought vaping was an acceptable alternative, it took work to give up the analogs- I went back and forth for several months, never lasting more than a few days before I allowed some excuse to send me to the store for a pack or bum a smoke from a neighbor.

For me, I had do decide and commit to myself that I would do everything I could to never have another cigarette- ever. And even with constant vaping, I still had to deal with strong urges to light up...

Beyond replacing analogs with e-cigs, what helped me the most this time around was getting to better/more powerful devices than the standard 510, and going for a series of acupuncture treatments (something a friend had suggested a couple of years back- (I laughed at the time). While it's not a silver bullet, it helped reduce the intensity and duration of the urges. Also, something about the acupuncture made the cigarettes taste metalic... Scheduling the treatments allowed me to set small incremental goals for myself ... just make it to the next session.... I slipped once a day after the first treatment - bought and smoked a pack over a 3 day period - but I stuck with it... after 3 sessions I started moving the sessions further apart - had my last treatment today and the thought of lighting up is now nauseating.

Keep trying
Best wishes
-Jim

Good post Jim as it drives home the point that everyone's experience with this is different. A lot of it depends on heavy a smoker you were/are as well, I think. I was a half-a-pack/day smoker of Camel Lights. I never smoked more than 10 for 32 years. Putting them away for good was not that hard for me.

My wife, on the other hand, was a heavier smoker and still has four or five analogs each day. She smoke Kool Full Flavors. That being said, this is a drastic reduction from what she was smoking. It is definitely taking her longer to give them up.

Hang in there bud.

Im sure we're both going to understand better where Jim is coming from in a couple of months fullback. I'm already aware that you can still have really strong urges to smoke analogues even after quite a while of vaping, and add also the fact that you may even dislike smoking analogues and it can almost be upsetting because you may be left thinking that you're not enjoying either.

This hasn't happened to me, but has to people I know who've been off analogs for months. I guess though it depends on how heavier a smoker you were and differs per individual, I'll say this though, its quite common to get strong cravings for an analogue after eating, at least for me and others, but vaping should curb that craving if you have a PV and Juice which hits the spot for you.

Congrats! Jim ~ Sounds like you have a strong constitution to go along with you commitment.

It was easier for me. I was determined to switch the day my supplies arrived in the mail. I had urges to smoke a cig. Finally gave in to those urges when my batteries were all dead. Took two drags and almost got sick. THEN I KNEW I was done with tobacco. I understand what you are saying.

Thanks for sharing your story.

I don't crave them at all after 7months but when I'm around friends I will smoke a few. I hate "bumming" smokes though. Considering that I have probably smoked 40 cigs since I started vaping it is a big difference compared to the thousands I would have consumed otherwise. I honestly don't know if I could keep a pack around the house and not smoke them or just smoke one a day. I'm not going to find out.

I just started vaping this past Monday. for the past week, I have not had a single analog. This after a 1.5 pack a day for 20 years habit. I have had some cravings, but am working through them. I think I may have been a little to optimistic in starting off with 8mg carts. I think I will bump it up for a little while.
One thing that has helped, especially at night is to continue my old habits of going outside on my back porch. but instead of using my old smokes, I am using the 808.

It seems that in the evening and night I get really intense cravings for analogs. How do you keep yourself from slipping? If I smoke analoges long enough I get terrible migraines, but that hasn't stopped me in the past. Any suggestions?

Don't beat yourself up... I just started vaping a couple of weeks ago and I was still having 1 or 2 regular cigs a day. Mostly had the cravings in the morning and late at night. What I started doing was getting different mg & flavors and that seems to be helping A LOT! This morning I tried a different flavor and that craving went away pretty quickly. I thought when I first started that all I would want is the menthol flavors but I am quickly realizing that I enjoy other flavors much more. So don't be afraid to try something different.

I agree. I haven't been using any tobacco flavors and am happier for it. I really like the red bull and blueberry cobbler.

Hawaii! Yay haha
my first non-tobacco flavor was a Banana Cream, and it has very high nicotine. It was very satisfying to get the nicotine, but somehow the wires were crossed in my head, about tasting a dessert and having a cigarette at the same time, so to speak. I obsessed over the banana flavor for a few days, and it really cut my ties with analogs.

I enjoy all the different tobacco flavors now, along with a bottle of menthol drops so I can make menthol versions of any tobacco juice. It's almost like having a huge cigarette machine in a handful of e-juice bottles! That kind of convenience, along with e-cigs just being a healthier alternative to analogs, makes it a lot sweeter.

I find it easy to stay away from analogs by keeping these things in the back of my mind. Just some food for thought, maybe thinking about these positive things can help when the craving for a cigarette comes around! :)
