Hey guys!

I was watching a documentary on BBC Iplayer last night called 'Addicted to Pleasure'- episode 3 was about tobacco addiction: the history of tobacco and the addictiveness of nicotine. I don't know if it's possible to view it from other countries outside of the UK but it's worth looking out for. (BBC iPlayer - Addicted to Pleasure: Tobacco). I thought the bit at the end where the professor was discussing the MERITS of nicotine and described it as 'a good drug, a bad delivery system' was very interesting! I'm also inclined to think that as there have been concerns in my family about dopamine creation in the brain that this is why I'm addicted to nicotine... seriously fascinating stuff!x

P.S. I watched this exactly 3 weeks after I quit the stinkies and didn't want one the entire time I watched it... although I will admit that I sat quite loftily and vaped away quite happily, safe in the knowledge that I was actually vaping an 'anti-depressant'...

I have the BBC America channel. I'll do a search for it. In another vein - any really good music from the UK I should be listening to? I hear alot of Independent music. Few years ago was into Arctic Monkeys first couple albums. Love The Beatles of course. I have this weird thing I think everyone from the UK knows all about the music scene. Sorry if this is completely off base.

UK music? Hmmm... I'll have to get back to you on that one... although please avoid anything promoted by the X-factor or 'talent' shows in general! I can't say I listen to a lot of music in the charts as it's usually full of rubbish but you can't go wrong with a bit of Snow Patrol! I've got Jamiroquai's greatest hits playing in the car at the moment although I was addicted to the latest Marina and the Diamonds album... I'm really weird though- I wont like music because it's popular but because I hear a song at a particular moment and it reflects my mood or brings about a memory. Gotye's 'Somebody that I used to know' and Marina and the Diamond's entire second album were probably my songs of the summer! I'll keep thinking though...x

Yes, it was really interesting. Watched it late last night while vaping my head off. When the scientist was talking about the seven genetic factors that influence whether or not people become addicted to nicotine, I was thinking I probably had all 7 present in my DNA.

Well worth a look. Thanks for letting us know about it. :toast:

My mother smoked while pregnant with me, quite acceptable at the time, so I've always wondered if I might have been born addicted.

Snow Patrol - been a couple years but listened to them quite a bit. I think the last I had from them was called "Up to Now" a collection. Keane - loved their first couple albums - if I can throw them into that genre. Marina and the Diamonds - never heard of but will search them out. Is there a contest in the UK every Christmas for who has the best xmas song?

@The Ocelot- my mum smoked while she was pregnant with me too! I think my addiction partly stems from that and partly from exposure to smoke as I grew up. Smoking was never really a big deal to me as I'd seen my mum smoke so often... Nature vs nurture?!

@John333 Try Snow Patrol's 'Fallen Empires' album. It came out about a year ago and I think it's wicked! Marina and the Diamonds is (its just one girl) wicked! We don't have a contest to find the best Christmas song, we have XFactor. It's pretty much a given that whoever wins XFactor will have the Christmas Number 1...with the exception a few years ago when somebody campaigned for Rage Against the Machine's 'Killing in the Name of' to become number 1 and it did! Oh the joy! Check out the album chart and you might find something even more current that takes your fancy- BBC - Radio 1 - Chart - The Official UK Top 40 Albums Chart x
