Hi everyone! I'm Rachel, I'm 24 and smoked for 2.5 years. I smoked a cigarette for the first time right before my last semester in undergrad, and it was love at first puff lol. What can I say, I like nicotine but I also just like smoking...
What I am tired of is smelling like it and worrying about the smell, getting blasted about it from my family of non-smokers (except good ol' grandma and her Virginia Slims), and the surprise and judgment from people who deem me "not the type of person who'd smoke" (which is what type, exactly?!) Also, ashes getting all over the inside of my car and being self-conscious about my stinky, smoky car isn't a good thing.
So I've got half a pack of my beloved Marlboro Smooths left and decided to cheaply try it out, with a Square brand menthol disposable from the gas station lol. But basically, I don't know where to start.
What should I know before I invest?! Which articles/forums/reviews best help a newbie like me to begin vaping successfully?

Thanks, and nice to meet you :)

Welcome! This is definitely the best forum to come to for any questions you have before you start buying. There's a lot of different types of e-cigs and a lot of super-knowledgeable people frequent this part of the forum and if you give them some info on what type of smoker you are they'll be able to point you in the best direction.

Yes - in the New Member section sticky threads - the video for newbies, and the thread with Library in its title will take you to a multipart illustrated guide.

Avoid super-minis - within a month almost every super-mini owner buys a better ecig

Most popular threading most popular 3-piece (can be used as a 2-piece w/ blank cartomizers) - Joye 510, Joye 510 w/ mega xl batteries, and 510's fat-battery version Ego and Riva 510. See Cignot.com, LiteCigUSA.net, Liberty-Flights.com

Most popular 2-piece threading, most popular 2-piece (can be used as a 3-piece with other models parts) - KR808D-1 which is sold in colors by Vapor4Life (25% off sale right now w/ code SPRING25 or that may be lowercase). Fat battery models are PigCig and Elegant Easy from other vendors. See LiteCigUSA.net and VaporLeaf.com for basic KR808D-1, and Vapor4Life for colors and prefilled cartomizers

Manual batteries are recommended since autos are dependent on a drag sensor in the threaded end and 2 popular methods of vaping (dripping and cartomizers) can drip right there. Manual batteries also will not turn on accidentally from wind or vibration. And IMO they are less work to vape.

Get Eliquid with whatever you order. Prefilled is just a tiny convenience - you need to add juice to everything, prefilled or not, unless you are rich.

That sounds like a good place to start. And cool, manual pushbutton operation. Does it work for you?

The general recommended starter kits are either the KR808-D1 or the 510. Both cartridges are available in huge 500mAh-1100mAh batteries which is a better long term value since a given battery large of small is limited to 300 charge cycles. The economics are simple, charging something once a day @ $20-$30 per unit, vs 5 times a day at $10-15/unit. There are larger but less practical designs, and smaller designs that are closer to a cigarette. Too small like the L88/Blu/Envy don't pack much in the way of power, roughly 90mAh. The 510 is the smallest yet practical design.

Personal tastes differ, so what do you want? For example I want battery life, something not cigarette shaped, with the focus on flavor, so the ego style T-rex was my choice, but the Riva 510 is similar and a good deal cheaper. I also use a KR808 with cartos specificially for fruit flavors. It's warmer, and simulates the throat hit better.

Johson's Creek offers a VERY good deal on a juice sample pack. $22+shipping for 10 3.7ml bottles glass bottles with eye droppers and a small tin.

Thanks for the feedback! I didn't even know the right questions to ask. I smoke half to 3/4 pack a day, usually just about half a pack unless I'm driving a ton and/or hanging out with other smokers. I like good flavors, almost creamily minty, which I why I smoked Marlboro Smooths. I don't mind if something is somewhat time consuming - I've previously rolled my own (with a rolling machine and also by hand) so that's not a problem because I enjoy the smoking experience.
I also like the fact that mine doesn't look like cig.

With the amount you smoke, you don't have to go with one of the large battery e-cigs. Also, if you like smooth creamy flavors, you don't really need to be able to use low resistance atomizers (which increase heat and throat hit). I think you would do well with either the 510 or the KR8. The 510 is a more standard connection. You are going to have a lot of fun picking out flavors. I think you should probably get juice in the 12mg - 18mg range, although that is difficult to judge, and 50/50 pg/vg.
