These gold plate beryllium contacts aren't supposed to arc, but they sure do. I have to noalox the battery with every battery change. I've never filed one, but I did used to use 400 grit wet/dry paper on the old contacts just to remove the black buildup. Now, I just use and eraser and clean with alcohol and noalox. I tried the Deoxit gold, but didn't help in the least in the arcing. And I've also melted 2 of the high temp Reo buttons as well.

You still cannot file thick copper, if that is what you are thinking - it's far too soft. The original Reo pins were spring steel and those would be filed.

So the lack of plating will make no difference.

What's your opinion on plating? I thought arcing oxidation was reason....for minimal maintenance...... I remember watching a R. Ob E. O. 'Neil video where he said never sand, but I think it was because of the gold plating.

I used a peek screw for the firing button. Basically, a peek screw screws into the stainless steel button and the screw head is used as contact. I hope it can withstand the temperature. If not, I can always use a ceramic screw.

I made the mod highly modular, so that any component can always be changed with ease. Therefore, I'm leaning toward just providing a non-plated spring to start with, and if the need arises, I can always provide plated ones that can be swapped in.

Let just help me finalize on the material choice for the springs in the next couple of days so I can start producing them next week.

Peek might be good. If peek can withstand the temps inside of atties, it should be good enough for the firing button. Time will tell. I have been known to push the limits a time or two :).

My opinion is that the plating is worthless. It means one cannot use anything but alcohol and cotton buds to clean the firing pin for fear of damaging the plating.

Oh, and the plating wears off anyway, just because of natural arcing between pin and battery.

Moreover, unless you are really running low resistance or competition builds and trying to screw every last fraction of power from your mod, the tiny amount of difference a plated v non-plated pin makes is negligible.

I'll put up a video tomorrow. So far I've used both mods for a week and everything works fine. The blue one works better than the red one due to minor differences in design. I made two versions.

I guess the only thing left to do is the destruction test. That's what I'll be doing after I post the video. I think I'll sacrifice the red one.
