I just looked and that missing would be bad.

Looks like mine is crooked. Maybe moved in transit?

That would certainly cause shorts. When I assembled it, the 510 insulation is secure. You can test this by moving the center pin up and down and see if the insulation stays in place.

But to move the center pin one would have to loosen the leaf spring screw a bit first.

After seeing the blown fuse pic, I started brainstorming possible spots for shorts in the POS path.

Since mine works, I can't debug the issue beyond that, but that pic makes me think short.

I don't recommend doing any bridging until we figure out the cause of fuse blowing. There might be a hard short somewhere. We need to figure it out first. This has never happened to me. Even if no fuse blow, I still do not recommend any bridging.

I agree, bridging bypasses the safety aspect of the fuse and causes extra risks when using the mod this way.

I think my short may have come from over-tightening my atty

This will definitely blow a fuse.

Since I didn't have another fuse I had to make a hillbilly bridge.

Hits like a bag of hammers now!

Got mine working! Took everything apart a few times, double checked, and still blowing fuses. Finally just when ahead and replaced the 510 insulator pin and carefully screwed on the atty. Bam, it works great. I also used the extra screw to hold the battery in place. I believe my problem was the same as Walter, it's easy to push the insulator to far down when putting on the atty. Glad I got it working as I was down to my last fuse.

Thanks Paul for your help and creating a great mod!

Walter/Clark, did you have the o-ring to seal the 510 when you
first cranked the atty down?
Were these long 510 connectors/pins and trying to get the atty close to the mod?

I have my pin set high for another mod and even with the o-ring it's not very snug. I was real close to swapping to the deeper 510 (decided to wait for the BF pins first.

Found the post.

2. I decided to make another set of the 510 connector. As you know, the 510 connection on different atties are not exactly the same "height", and for the best performance, the atty should be screwed down tight. The first batch of the 510 connector worked great for the atty I've always been using, but didn't make too tight of a connection with some others. I mean, I never really thought about this until last week, and I spent last weekend to try to come up with a solution. There are some cheap and easy fixes but last night I made the decision to just make a different batch of the 510. They are small machined parts and will be ready in a week or so, I already ordered it. So you'll get two 510 connectors. This is a benefit for you since the 510 is the weakest part of a mech mod usually, and having a replacement one on hand is nice. It's user swappable. This also sort of acts as an "adjustable 510" since you get two slightly different fixed 510s.

No details on the different atty or whst the length of the threads/pin was in either, or the deoth change.

So does anyone have any thoughts as too why mine blew? I had a high enough build on my hobo there's no way in hell it shoulda blew that fuse, I looked at the 510 insulator and that's fine. I'm not exactly too sure what the deal is here. I don't wanna keep burning through fuses if it's gonna be the same outcome.

Maybe try a different insulator anyway?
Not sure Clark found the problem with the insulator, but changing it helped.

Or change to the other 510 housing?

Also, double check the placement of the insulating strip on the POS contact that prevents shorts to the top of the mod.

Ok thank you, I will check once I'm home. I gotta run to the store first to get more fuses, I don't have any, I thought I did.
