Introducing Myself

Hello! I only recently ever heard about e-cigarettes. I mentioned to my sister, who lives in Florida, how the taxes are going up so high and I need to quit. She told me her boyfriends mother hasn't had a real smoke in 9 months because of the electronic cigarette. I found it very hard to believe so I started researching. I found this site, and a lot of the suppliers. But I decided to go with using the patch instead of spending money on something I didn't know would work for me, especially since there are so many different types to try and I got the patch for free through my insurance.

So here I am 2 weeks and 1 day on the patch, and I miss smoking so much. I finally decide to try vaping, as it is called here, and now find all this going on with the FDA, and all the websites out of stock. If anyone can direct me where I can get a starter kit, I'd really appreciate it.

I am feeling soooooooo crabby, eating constantly, and having the urge to smoke a lot. I am still reading through posts here-there is so much information! Hopefully I will someday get to try vaping-lol, that still sounds like some kind of magic trick to me.

Anyway, I really like the site and it seems there are a lot of experts here with great information. I look forward to reading more from everyone!

Welcome, I have tried 3 different ecigs and none of them worked for me as well as the 510, also known as the dura c, yeti, or titan 510. This thing produces lots of vapor. It has a manual switch on the battery that allows you to draw as long as you want. The other batteries have a cut off that shuts the power off. Unfortunately most dealers are sold out, at least the ones that are a decent price. Jason at Electronicstix.com should be getting them in on 5/8 or so. They go fast so get your order in. I think he is getting 47.50 for pre orders. You get two complete ecigs in the kit. I have ordered from him twice and got excellent service. His nic juice is good also. cigtech.com also has them for a decent price but they are sold out also. Looks like jantyusa has them in stock for 58 with a longer warranty.

Hope this helps. :hubba:

Hi Kathy

I understand your delima... I tried to quit with the patch as well and was disappointed in myself for not having the will power. I ran across the electric cig in the mall first than decided to do some research. I have purchased two, a 901 mini from e-smokeytreats and a 801 from Vapor options. I am most pleased with the 801 penstyle is great and vapor options prices are also great... Check out the web site...

I will say it is a little more work that picking up a cigarette and lighting it but greatly worth it...

Let me know how it goes.

It is normal to be confused with all the different options with PV's (personal vaporizers). I have by no means tried all the different devices. I have read many good reviews from users of the Dura-C/510 PV which is a manual switch device as mentioned by Ken. I am a big fan of the manual switched devices because of being able to heat up the atomzier, no worry of dripping and gumming up the auto switch and what IMO provides good throat hit. Others like the two piece PV such as the Vapor King and it has a good following, also.

Here is a summary of my experience. You can take what makes sense to you and throw out what doesn't. There is a learning curve to vaping:

I read this forum and looked at older forum threads for two weeks before I purchased my first PV (personal vaporizer).

My first PV was a blue DSE901 from Phil at e-Smokey Treats - Electronic Cigarette's, The healthy alternative to traditional tobacco cigarette's. Phil is a little more expensive than some suppliers but he provides a 3 month warranty instead of 14 days, gives you two atomizers instead of just one and provides a phone number where you can call him which most suppliers do not. Like all suppliers, the kit comes with two batteries and a charger. The battery will last about 2-3 hours before needing recharged although some users reported getting 4-5 hours but that has not been my experience. His 901 starter kit is $69.95 where some other suppliers will sell them for $49.95 or $59.95 but without the extra’s that Phil provides. I would consider the DSE901 a good first purchase and it is about the size of a regular 100 cigarette. (If you purchase from Phil at e-smokey-treats.com, when it asks for a coupon code, use esmoking101 and you should get 10% off.)

Many users like the classic penstyle 801 model which has a larger atomizer and cart and a typical battery charge life of about 4 hours. The draw is lighter, more like a straw (to me) due to having 4 holes in the atomizer and the bigger cart. The 801 is larger and looks more like a big pen instead of regular cigarette. You can also purchase a USB pass-through for both the 901 and 801, which allows you to plug into a usb port on your computer or wall socket adapter and not have to worry about changing batteries. You can then purchase a portable battery pack for the usb pass-through such as this one from Kennsington (Kensington - Portable Power Pack for Select Mobile Devices - Black - K38021) and make your usb power portable. Make sure the power pack is at least 1000mAh power output.

Most users want an PV to provide the “throat hit” that is most like a real cigarette (analog as we call them) as well as long battery life. Many members have stated that one of the best ways to get consistent throat hit is to get a manual switch PV that allows you to push a button and heat up the atomizer more before you inhale. One that does that well is the screwdriver (SD) from trog at: - The ScrewDriver - An electronic cigarette that simply works. It is more expensive but it provides long battery life (7-8 hours) and consistent throat hit. And my experience with trog has been outstanding. I have emailed him many times with questions and he almost always responds any where from 10 minutes to an hour or so. There is also now a US supplier of a PV with a manual switch and big battery, the Prodigy, which is being released this week from PureSmoker.com - Your #1 Source For PV's, Parts, & Accessories!. Here is link that shows a picture: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/puresmoker/15068-usa-manufactured-pv-cash-friends.html

Most members recommend that you use e-liquid or e-juice to refill your carts instead of use the prefilled cartridges that come with the starter kits. Plus it is more cost effective. My recommendation (others will differ on this) is to get a little higher nicotine (nic) strength because you can always dilute it with USP glycerin that you can get at a drug store for $5 or $6 if you find it is too strong. I use 24mg nic strength. The highest is 36mg and there is also 18, 11, 6 and 0. There are many different flavors to choose from. My favorite tobacco flavor is Kent from www.eastmall.net - Eastmall International Co.,Ltd. It has a smooth but definite tobacco flavor to me. Others like the stronger flavors such as Camel. You can also reduce the strength over time. Another supplier with a pretty good following is LiquidXpress Hompage.

Hope this helps and good luck.

PS: the smallest bottle of liquid is 10ml and usually costs $9.99. In general (everyone is different) you should get any where from 5-14 days out of that size bottle. In addition, you can wash out the fabric in the pre-filled cartridges and reuse them. The fabric is simply polyester batting which you can get enough for a year's worth for about $5 from Wal-Mart.

Best liked PV poll:

Kathy: I have 3 510 sets and 2 more on the way I love it !!!!!!! I have 2 Dura-C sets and when they get here 3 Yeti sets I got them from thesmokesafe.com as of yesterday he still had them in stock --- make sure that when you order you get a few bottles of liquid too. We made that mistake and then ran out of liquid - most people look at the tobacco flavors 1st as I did but I vaped about 3 drops out of those bottles and now they sit on a shelf.... I along with a lot of other people really like the RY4 - I haven't had it from James at thesmokesafe but he does carry it it's called like smoke - the only reason I didn't get it from him is because I have a ton of it at home already

Good luck to you Kathy
I think we've all been where your at, I know I wanted to quit and tried the gum, patches, cold turkey and Chantix...nothing worked. I can say after I started vaping, I didn't miss them at all...not like with the gum which was the only thing that prevented me from going totally crazy, but I still missed them, especially when I saw someone on TV smoking or in public...it becomes a love/hate issue. You don't want to want it.
with the e-cig - The hand to mouth urge is satisfied as well as the nicotine. It's been 3 months for me and I don't feel deprived at all. I'm cutting back my nicotine levels now and still doing well.
There is stock, check out the links posted. Most say to start with a 901 style, they are aesy and effective. After a while you might want something else, such as a 801 penstyle. I have about 8 different types, LOL and my fave. is the lady pipe & cigar...longer battery and more vapor
again, good luck to you!

I just bought my kit last week from vapourwarehouse.com The price was excellent and hey didn't seem to have a shortage of inventory, but that may have changed this week.

Get one if you can! I have no desire whatsoever for a regular cigarette (although I have 1 each day because I'm trying to finish the last pack I had). It's not exactly the same as smoking, but it is a great replacement and you'll feel better within the first week.

Every model has its pros and cons, and no model is perfect for everybody. I have tried several pens and several minis, and disagree with the majority on the 510.

What is does have going for it is the volume of vapor/ease of draw. You only have to draw in slightly harder than you would with a traditional cigarette. Also, for a mini, it is one of the easiest to refill yourself (rather than buying cartridges.) This is because many minis use a recessed internal cartridge, which must be removed prior to refilling.

I dislike the heat of draw (the air itself gets hot quickly - too hot.) It also burns through juice very quickly for the size of its cartridge. I also don't like the automatic battery - it shuts off very quickly. This is not an issue with the manual battery. Some people have complained about the button design on the manual - I think it's just a matter of getting used to it personally, but it's not for everyone.

Two other standard, popular models to consider are the M-40x (there is a 401, 402, and 403 - size being the difference.) The M Series and the 510 are both of great quality. I have an M-403 (I belive, the vendor I used changed his model numbers around...) and it's a wonderfull mini, but it's switch is a little strange. On the one hand, it's very responsive and reilable, on the other hand it reacts to sound and therefore can go off in situations you don't want it to. If you're going to use it at home, great choice, just realize that cartridge refills will take longer.

If you want a model that you can just take with you and not worry about refilling and recharging all the time - get a pen-style. They have a harder draw than these other two minis I mentioned above, and they don't feel anything like a regualr cigarette in your hands. Once you get used to that fact, you can't beat the ease of use and reliability of them.

Another popular model is the DSE901 - everyone and their dog has one, so it'll be an easy bet for you to easily find parts for it. I tried an older one that may have been having issues, but it was my very least favorite cigarette due to the low vapor production and incredibly hard draw. Again though, it may have been a defective unit.

You really ought to check out the video reviews. There are many available on this site. I don't think one reviewer is any better than another as it's really just opinion, but Leaford runs a good site with a lot of video reviews - you just have to learn to tune out his bird...:D He has a website too, but it's easier to find the videos here: YouTube - dhenschel05's Channel

Wow-thanks for all the info and links. I am going to check them all out for sure. It does seem a little confusing-using the liquids yourself, etc.-but I will do some more reading on here also. I am definitely willing to put a little more effort into this-anything to not pay these taxes, and I love the idea of not inhaling that unbelievable amount of chemicals.

Thanks again!

Hey Kathy ~

Vaping has worked for me so far - down to one analog a day! It does seem a lot confusing but you will wade through and find a perfect fit for you. Personally, I like the DSE 901 and ecigarettecigar.com had some last night in stock. There is also a coupon code out there for the site on the forum somewhere, but it isn't on the master list yet.

I wish you all the best!

Welcome to the forum Kathy. The best advice I can give you is have patience, do your homework, and don't order from overseas unless you have to. Once you get your device and your liquid how you want them, it's totally worth the wait. We'll keep our fingers crossed about that FDA thing. Hmm.. what else? Oh yeah, and don't order from SmokingAnywhere.com.

Kathy, I too am a newbie. I ordered my dse901 from esmokeytreats and I love it. For a first time ecig it has reassured me that I made the right decision. The shipping was awesome..2days from Cali to NDak. I have already ordered from Phil again. I did make the mistake of not ordering any extra juice or carts. Now I'm vapeless till the mailman comes. I know it's overwhelming but once you get you first package in the mail and see how it works things will start to make sense. All the best, dawnlori

Thanks for the shout out!
We just got in a new order of kits, parts and four flavors of juice, so.... nothing has changed - other than we look forward to you coming back!

Currently Smokesafe has the 510 or yeti in stock and Rock Mountain Vapor has great prices on the 801 and 901 with free shipping.

Since the 1950s science has been promising us jet-packs. Every year we wait in vain and end up disappointed. I know they can split the atom and send people to the moon - maybe ;) -, but apart from making information (and porn) available to everyone instantaneously , it seems to have done very little for the little guy. Last week, I finally got my jet-pack equivalent...a Titan/510.

Finally I can smoke guilt free, anywhere I choose, without my wife, mother, or anyone else for that matter telling me how I'm killing myself. No longer do I have to hear lectures from strangers informing me of all the damage I'm doing to my lungs, as if I didn't know already. I can now vape more than I used to smoke and still be improving my lungs. How amazing is that?!? Today for the first time in god knows how many years I went a full day without touching an actual cigarette and I feel great. No bad mood, no irritability, no constant thought of "how much longer can I endure?" going through my head.

Not only that, after just under a week of vaping, I am really starting to like it better than cigarettes. I love the vapor, the taste, the ability to smoke it anywhere (weather be damned!), and the fact that I don't stink anymore. One day we may get our jet-packs, but now, since we won't have to worry about the wind blowing out our lighters, we can vape up in the stratosphere too!

Thank you Men-Of-Science, the Future is finally here...Today!!!
