Introduction and experience with vaping so far

Hi all! First off, i just wanted to say thank you for this forum. Without it, i probably would have wound up at the mall spending $150 on $45 worth of inferior stuff :)

I've been a smoker for 17 years, and quit (mostly) about two months ago, using both the patch and nicotine lozenges. I was doing relatively well, but at about a month & a half i started really missing smoking. I bought a pack of clove ("cigars", as their now called :)) to tide myself over, but deep down i knew where this road leads too... straight back to smoking. Soon thereafter, and this sounds like BS, but i had a dream that i bought an e-cig and loved it. I'd never even tried one before, but that day i became obsessed with trying one :) I stopped at a couple smoke shops, but discovered that nobody sells anything decent locally. One place did have a cheap-o disposable set for $10, so i picked that up to give it a try... it was great! So, i did some searching online and luckily i found this forum. Before buying anything, i read as much as i possibly could, and eventually decided on the Joye 510.

I couldn't wait to try it, so i found a-zsmokefree, which is located here in the Phoenix area. I spoke with James, the owner, and he was cool with me doing a local pick up. Him and his wife turned out to be great people, and i wound up hanging out and chatting with them for an hour or so before heading off with my shiny new 510 in hand :)

Now, for the good and the bad:

I'll start with the good: I'm REALLY enjoying vaping... almost to the point of being repulsed by cigarettes. I still have one occasionally, usually when drinking, but i don't really even enjoy them anymore. I'm finding that i prefer the "fresh", stink free (and guilt free) vapor. This is TRULY the only thing that i've ever found that makes quitting smoking easy. I LOVE smoking, but i hate the constant fear of health problems and the insane cost. E-cigs give me the ability to "smoke" with almost no side effects. No more guilt.. I now have a new habit that's safer and that i actually enjoy to replace one that was going to kill me.

Now here's the bad: This hobby/habit would be much cheaper than smoking IF the parts actually lasted longer than a friggin' week. I'm chocking it up to bad luck at this point, but within two days of buying my 510 kit both atomizers spontaneously burnt out. James with a-zsmokefree met up with me and replaced them, no questions asked. Now, i've had two batteries and one charger quit on me in the last few days. I'm down to one battery (i bought a 3rd to be on the safe side luckily) and the only way i have to charge it is through my PCC... which is starting to act funny.

I'm getting extremely frustrated with the crappy Chinese quality control on these products. The 510 is great when it’s working right. I wasn't even minding the short battery life because i had the PCC... i can just swap em out every hour or so. But, if stuff keeps breaking i'm not going to be able to afford to keep doing this. I've gotten some cartomizers, and have been preferring them.. they seem to last longer than the real atomizers at this point!

So, i'm giving it one more shot. I've ordered 2 eGo batteries, 2 chargers, and the atty cover from Cignot, and we'll see how this goes. I'm really excited to try it, but i'm also afraid that it's gonna crap out just like the 510 did.

Oh well, wish me luck! Thanks again for all the information on this site.. it truly has been a life saver so far!

I recently got the Janty eGo. So far I haven't really had any problems with it aside from not liking cartridges. Even on my first ecig I had already started direct dripping. It's taken some time to get used to how much liquid to keep in the atty but the eGo is working great.
I will admit that I plugged the atty once, and ran it too dry another time. Boiling for a couple of min got rid of the plug and running it under hot water cleared the "burnt" taste out of the atty.

That brings a couple of questions

1. Are you using manual batteries or automatic?
2. Were you using cartridges or dripping?

Good to hear it's working for you.. i'm in "checking USPS tracking every 10 minutes to see if there's any shipping updates" mode.. so i'm pretty excited about getting it :) After about two days, i got sick of cartridges too... it seemed like i constantly had to top them off, so i just switched to direct dripping. I'm positive that i haven't let the atty get too dry.. if anything i've been putting too much juice in there. I'm using manual batteries. At first i just drilled out an empty cart, but i ordered a black plastic t-tip and have been using that.

Recently, i've been using cartomizers more often then direct dripping, although i still switch back and forth. The cartomizers seem inconsistant in quality, but if you get a good one that sizzles and pops it's great.. HUGE plumes of vapor! I've been experimenting with them, and i've found that drilling out the white cap with a 1/4 inch bit makes them easier to refill.. just drip as needed, and they don't seem to leak out at all.

I'm up in Flagstaff. I was wondering where this shop is that you went to. I might check it out the next time I'm in the valley. I hope you have better luck with the new equipment.

It isn't an actual shop, he just runs a website business out of his home, but is cool with local pickups if you call ahead and set up an appointment.

Ah. I was hoping there was a shop. I actually saw disposables in the cigarette vending machine at a bar the last time I was in Peoria. $15 for two cartridges.

Yeah, sorry.. i'd love to find a local store too where i could pick up replacement parts in a pinch, but no luck so far. Some dude was telling me that there's a store around 59th or 67th ave & Greenway that sells e-cigs, but i haven't confirmed it yet. If i discover its true i'll let you know.

bad, you may be like me. None of the smaller 3.7v sticks, even with the LR attys, please me. I need a hard throat hit. I like to feel the vapor in my chest. I went ahead and got a Thermo from litecigusa. Its a 6V PV. I use copper BE112 attys on it. The thing hits like a beast. Even if I use a heavily dominant VG juice, I can still get way better hits than on the little sticks like my kr808d or 510's. The egos do seem to get good reviews though. But if it don't cut the mustard for you, think about going with a high voltage mod.

So far, i'm perfectly fine with the throat hit and vapor amount i get from the 510, i just need better reliability. I wanna be able to trust my PV enough to leave my house with less than 3 batteries and 4 atomizers and feel comfortable that it's gonna be able to last me till the end of the day.

That would be awesome if you find one. I don't think there's much hope with all the smoking hysteria that's going on up here. I would love to be able to pop into a store once in a while and find something fun. The internet is great and all, but it's nice to go into a place and walk out with something sometimes too.

Update -

Well, i got the eGo, and it's 5000X better than the 510! And, it passed the "Vegas Test(tm)" :) I went to Vegas over memorial day weekend, and had absolutely no problems with either of the eGo batteries, and they were lasting me around 8-10 hours while chain-vaping throughout the day. And, it actually looks a lot smaller in person than i expected it to be. Overall, i am extremely impressed with this little device. I'm also extremely impressed with Cignot.. i ordered it on Sunday and received it on Tuesday.. going from Chicago to Phoenix!

Now, to try LR attys :)
