Hey guys,

I'm Dalton, living in East Tennessee, new-ish to vaping. Interested in the hobby side of things, I've always liked electronics so coil building and mods are my niche in the gigantic world of vaping.

My mods:

Vamo V5 with a Mini Protank III
Vanilla Copper mech mod with a Darkhorse rda(love this thing)

I started out with a starter kit as most people do, then moved up to the VV/VW Vamo to play around with that. Then yesterday bought my first mech mod/RDA because I wanted to try out dripping.

Coil Build

I used 26ga Kanthal as my coil, around a micro screwdriver to wrap. Approx diameter of 4mm or so. I used 7 wraps on each, and it tested out to .5 ohms. Yay for subohming. (Note: I did a significant amount of research into battery safety etc before attempting any of this.) I used organic cotton as my wick. Basic build, but I'm proud of myself because it produces nice clouds, better than I expected in all honesty. Pictures below of everything.

Comments, advice, and questions are always welcome!

Hello and welcome to the forum Badger. Glad to have you here!:)

+1 on doing your homework.:toast:

Instead of posting all my usual battery safety/Ohm's Laws links (for members new to mech mods & rebuildables who HAVE NOT done their homework) I'll post this instead.

COILING CALCULATORS

Here are a few links for you regarding building coils and getting the resistance just where you want it:

1. Steam Engine
2. Coil Toy Calculator
Make sure to check your build with an ohm reader or DMM before putting it on your mod and firing it.

The Steam Engine is much more than just a coil calculator. I consider it my "All in One" vaping calculator.
Check out State-O-Flux's blog on the Steam Engine: Steam Engine: From Basic Use to Advanced Features

You don't need a mech mod to try out dripping; I use my drippers at 10 watts on my vamos all the time with 32, 30 and 28 gauge.

Like most people what you are doing is 'trying out' 3 different things all of a sudden, at the same time:
1: rda
2: mech
3: 26 gauge.

Hello and welcome, nice build you have there!

Definitely get yourself a calculator for building coils, it takes so much guesswork out of the process. One thing you mentioned was having 4mm diameter coils. The generally accepted method of measure, and what you'll find in the calculators, is inner diameter, not outer; e.g. the diameter of what you're wrapping around. Hopefully that will save you from a bit of confusion down the road :)
