Well hello everyone, it's great to become a member of what looks to be an amazingly active and helpful forum! So, thank you all for having me :)

For starters, I'm Brian and I'm in my 30s. I'm actually proud to say, even with all the stressful companies I've worked for, I've yet to ever get into the habit of smoking! :p The actual only smoking I've ever done is the occasional cigar with buddies while grilling out :) However the "E-cig" phenomenon has peaked my interest in starting smoking, or I guess as you guys call it "vaping" (sorry, still learning the lingo). Coming from strictly a background in technology, it's hard for me to not look at this device and become interested.

Anyway, I'm really not looking to start smoking cigarettes, so vaping was my next option. And personally I think it's probably better I get started with E-cigs instead of real ones. Plus it seems like in the long run, it's more cost efficient. Also I'd like to start just for the social aspect of it, as pretty much everyone at my company either smokes or vapes, they take many breaks which I'd like to be able to join and socialize with them!

So for starters, I was looking into E-cigs that have no nicotine or tobacco in them. I kinda want to just test the field before I start investing into something that, honestly, could be a potential risk to my health. So my question is, what would be a good "starter kit" for someone like me who wants to ease into this E-cig environment but at first with a no-tobacco and no-nicotine solution? Essentially just for flavor? I found the below link that mentions it is a non-nicotine / non-tobaco starter kit which includes 5 flavor cartridges, and 2 E-cigs, and chargers. Is this what I'm looking for? Is there anything I'm "vaping" that would be considered harmful? Also any recommendations on flavor for a first timer?

Here is the link: primevapor. com/non-nicotine-e-cigarette-starter-kit-126.html

If anyone else has any other recommendations, it would be greatly appreciated! And sorry for making this such a long post! :p

I wouldn't recommend getting a set like this.

I don't seem to be able to post links, but for even less money you could look into something like a Kanger EVOD starter kit.

The batteries will last you a lot longer and you'll get a much better vape with lots of flavor. You'll have to get the liquid seperately, but it has a tank system instead of the cartridges, so you can fill it with whatever you choose from hundreds of flavors from different vendors, and they all sell their liquids without nicotine, too. Flavor itself is very subjective, I'm more of a fruit person, but there's dessert flavors or even bacon. Experiment!

Oh wow, and here I thought I had linked to a good deal. Hah. Well, this is why I'm posting here :) So thanks for the heads up.

Do these other kits come with 5 flavor cartridges too? I'm all for suggestions if you guys might have a link you could post :)

Oh and also to the EVOD kit, it seems like a good deal but those are some super big/colorful E-cigs! :p Maybe something a tad more subtle?

Yes, I'm going to be THAT guy..... :)

I would discourage anyone who is currently a non-smoker to stay away from vaping for the "social aspect".

Vaping is "harm reduction"; meaning it is not harmless. It's just less harmful than smoking. Nobody really knows the long term effects of vaping yet, but we do know that smoking will kill you, so....harm reduction.

If you aren't a smoker and you begin vaping, you are essentially practicing "harm escalation".

Hi Yeti! It is perfectly fine to be "that guy" :) In fact I appreciate the extra information. However, I may have not researched as thoroughly as I thought, but I read that since there's no tobacco and and the cartridges I'm interested in are "no-nicotine", that it was essentially harmless. Just basically great for flavor. But maybe I just haven't read around enough?

Well, you're still inhaling substances that weren't meant to be inhaled (for the most part). There is research, but precious little so far. There is enough to provide me with some peace of mind, but not enough for me to say it's "harmless". I am however, quite certain it's less harmful than smoking.

If you're careful, and make sure you buy your flavors from reputable vendors that list all their ingredients, you can be safer....but nothing is as safe as not vaping at all.

I'd also add that PG and VG are the carrier liquid with flavoring and nicotine added. PG and VG are mostly benign by most guesses, and nicotine really appears to be about as dangerous as caffeine so the likely component to be dangerous if any of it is are the flavoring's used in e-cigs. Now I'm making some broad statements that I know are only somewhat supported by studies etc, but that's my take on it. I honestly think the flavoring's are the biggest possible problem with our hobby or whatever it is for each person, IE diacytl and whatnot being in some juices. There is a fair chance other things will crop up over time that may not be strictly safe but it's likely to come from the flavors and not the other components.

So that in mind, I'd be cautious starting vaping 0mg nic for safety's sake, it's likely just as safe for it to have nicotine as to not have it. Overall though like mentioned above it's very likely safer than smoking all indications seem to point to that but it's still a risk to some degree because your inhaling something other than air. I will also say though if it's e-cigs or smoking a cigar or occasional cigarette I think you're better off with the e-cig even though like anything I'd always say it's best to not do it at all, but that's the same old do as I say not as I do argument.

Do some reading and decide for yourself if it's safe enough based on the current evidence. Also on equipment basically bigger to a degree equals a better overall experience, more vapor etc. Smaller is a worse experience and often more expensive. If you want to try it, get a disposable for $10 and see how it is for ya. It will have nicotine but no more than a cigar or something else and that will be close to the experience on smaller devices also known as cigalikes. Ego's etc, bigger batteries and clearomizers will give you an intermediate level of experience for really pretty cheap, basic Ego with CE4 is like $12 shipped on Ebay and all you need is liquid at that point. up from there the sky is the limit, but so is the amount of vapor etc, it's a significant jump in performance though as you step up.

Here is a really good Kanger Evod kit for a great price. You can choose the black option for color, and it is very sedate. I got this kit to start with and really liked it. This vendor is a registered ECF supplier, so if you use the code ECF at checkout you will get 10% off, making the kit about $30. You get two batteries, two tanks/toppers, and a charger, everything you need except the e juice. Here is a link:
