How do I get to the ground wire? I can't see it from the battery end. I take it I have to go in from above?
On the beta IP and the Buzz the screw on the side has the ground wire attached to it. Don't take it out just make sure it's tight.

Never mind Mike already answered while I was typing.

Bummer epresley!

What about the possibility of a short between the center screw and ground? Wouldn't that give the "purple" light also (both blue and red at the same time)? You could easily check that with an ohm/volt meter (multimeter). Just set it on ohms and put one lead to the center screw and the other to ground screw (or body) and if you get 0-1 ohms it be a short.
If it is shorted that way, then you can give the top cap a dunk in Alcohol or take it apart if your careful.

Ha! I know Buzz's name now! I'm willing to try anything at this point, so come on with it Buzz if you think it will help.

You found out our secret about mike? Ha,ha! I think he needs to change his name cause he's anything but a buzzkill.

Not sure if I have helped or made this worse. I loosened the side screw and it fell out. I attempted to put it back in, but there is nothing for it to bite on.

When I put it back in and held it, using a lot of pressure, it fired right up and I got several good tokes. That is not happening anymore though.

And Kempo, I kind of wonder if you are on to something because with the screw out the red light remains on until I take the carto out. If I take the carto out and hold the screw in, the light comes back on.

I am going to pick up a multimeter today because let's just face it, they're cool to have.

What next y'all?

On the other side of the ground screw is a small nut. That's why the ground screw won't stay in. You'll have to take the top cap off to get to the nut and thread the ground screw back thru the ground wire and nut.

Thanks Modrod - can you tell me how to get the top cap off? Does the whole thing just twist? Please forgive a dumb question, I just don't want to mess things up any further...

That's why I said not to remove it but just make sure it's tight.

If I was you I would send it in to the Buzzpital and have Mike fix it for you before you mox-nix the warranty. Sorry for your problems.

Epresley, I know it'll be hard to send your baby back to Dr. Mike but it's the best thing! Repairs take priority over other orders too, so you should have it back in about a week. And we'll be here to help you stay calm while you wait ;)

Thanks Bovinia! Yeah, I hate to see her go, but it is best. I did order a passthrough just to give me a little bit of warmth while I'm waiting. Hopefully it will be here tomorrow because these ego batts just don't do much for me anymore!
