Answer is it depends.

Yes a mechanical mod is usually classed as an e-cig, but there is a lot of difference between a cig-a-like disposable, an ego setup and a mechanical mod. They are all usually classed as e-cigs though.

That is of course unless you want to say, import them into a country where they might be difficult to buy. Then they could be called flashlights

Alright thanks! But is there anything to back it up that a mech mod wouldn't be called an ecig?

Other than playing Fun With Semantics - why are you asking the question? In other words, why wouldn't a mechanical be considered an e-cig? Or why does this matter to you? It's just different designs that ultimately give you a similar end result.

If I was to smoke a mech mod in a facility that doesn't allow tobacco products or electronic cigarettes would there be anyway to get around it?

Yeah, that's not going to work. Their house, their rules.

I suppose you could try to argue the point, but they could just as easily change their HR policy to include whatever you are calling it.

Choose your battles, I would concede this one no matter how misinformed the policy was. Employers can pretty much impose whatever rules they want so long as they are not illegal.

Yeah, technically there's no electronics in a mechanical mod, therefore it's not an electronic cigarette, but it does put out vapor just like an ecig. I'm sure that's what matters to the company. Arguing that it's not an ecig and you should be able to use it will be seen by the company as a bogus Greg Brady defense, you know, "You said not to drive "our" car."

+1 on what everyones saying on playing semantics with employers. Better to try and win them with logic and reason, than trick with semantics.

Personally, I kinda draw the line of "e-cigs"/"electronic cigarettes" at cigalikes. Once you take away the form/appearance of a cigarette, it has so little in common with one that you might as well call it a "steamy flashlight". Past cigalikes I'd call them "personal vaporizers". Removes the negative connections with cancer sticks, makes it sound like more of a health device than an addiction.

Of course, you could go with "steamy flashlight" anyway. =p

That sounds like a more "personal" device.
