Because it has a coil? Because it has a tank that contains VG or PG? Because the user expels vapor that looks like smoke ? Because it has a battery? Because the tank holds liquid that contains nicotine? What if the tank does not contain nicotine? Is it still an E-Cig?

These are my burning questions for tonight while watching Modern Marvels on H2 (History Channel 2)

That and I really need to know what exactly constitutes an E-cig. I've been tobacco free, smoke free for almost two years. vaping exclusively. I'm close to zero nicotine now. Will I still be an E-cig user when I go to zero? Obviously yes, but why ?

I really dig vaping a million times more then I dug smoking. I hated smoking. Just did it for 40 years 'cause I couldn't get off the stinkies til I discovered E-cig (24 mg/ml when I first quit smoking) almost two years ago. Still can't believe I've been smoke free for so long.

Hope you weigh in on the subject of "What constitutes an E-Cig ?"

congratulations on your approaching 2 year vapiversary !

I guess I'm used to using "e-cig" to describe any gen 1 and 2 devices that were/are nicotine replacement devices. I don't think it matters if it's topped by a cartomizer, atomizer, carto-tank, dripper, clearo or glasso - that's just a personal accessory choice. And it doesn't matter if the toppers actually contain nicotine or not, because nicotine elimination was/is a goal for many newbie vapers; nicotine replacement for others. I still use gen 1 ecigs w/atomizers and cartomizers and cartotanks, and I have some fancy new glassos, too, that go with a few box mods. Which I refer to as my tootle puffers to my family because it doesn't cause as many wrinkles as saying PeeeeVeeee.

Around strangers, it's still a "e-cig but with a square battery instead of a cigarette-like battery. Would you like to see it?" If they're interested, then I'll change to referring to it as a box mod made by.. with an atomizer tank made by.. and see how far down the rabbit hole they want to go.

Seein these dinky sticks with a LED to sort of mimick cigarette glow - yup, dem's e-cigs. Well, sort of :)
But applying that term to anything bigger or even to box mods - naaaww, not really.
Only thing that ties vaping to smoking might be the consumption of nicotine. But there's plenty vapers enjoying nic-free liquids. So...
It sure would be better for reception in the public 'non-vaping' eye to get that 'e-cig' thingie unstuck.

Yet, have a look where we are right now : www.e-......

For me it does not matter how it is called (for as long as it is not a Personal Electronic Nicotine Inhalant System). It may be called just a cigarette in the future, so what?

I think people from nineteen thirties would call our cell phones not phones at all, but something like "personal radio stations"; they'd be really surprised we call these things just "phones" (you know, a phone have to have a wire attached).

This looks nothing like a cigarette:

I call it a vaporizor.

It doesn't use tobacco. It doesn't make smoke. It makes water vapor. The liquid in the tank has no tobacco, although it does contain nicotine, which is no more harmful than caffeine in soda and coffee.

If someone unfamiliar with vaping looks confused when I call it a vaporizor, I'll break down and say its a fancy e-cigarette. They seem to understand that better. But I'm finding more and more people know what a vaporizer is.

On the JEEP site I visit. They get just as upset if you call a JEEP a CAR, as some do about Vapor vs SMOKE. It's ridiculous there and here. Coke people call all COLA drinks a COKE, Pepsi people the same way. GET IT. It's about association and perception. If it walk like a duck and quacks like a duck and all that.
Everywhere in life, except this web site, I call My Mod an E Cigarette and I SMOKE it, instead of smoking cigarettes. At almost 50, a Vaporizer is something you use to raise the humidity in a room when you have a cold. OR a tool for SMOKING that which cannot be discussed here.
