Curious if anyone is stockpiling nonperishable food like power bars, lentels, canned goods.

Does anyone have an emergency "To Go" box?

I'm going to be working on my "To Go" Box soon. Medications, one day's clothes, power bars, first aid kit, list of insurances, bank account numbers, and phone numbers to those companies...

At the grocery store, I've been buying 2 items for reserve... like peanuts or a small sleve of lentils or power bars (on power bars I buy a few more than 2 because everyone eats them up and I always end up with zerro for my "to go" box.)

Anyone else?

No floodplains, but live in a major city and am concerned about civil unrest and possible terrorist attacks.

Cat food and cat litter and sidewalk salt, I stockpile in fall. It helps greatly because in winter it is so easy to trip and fall.

I stockpile heavy items when Peapod has a big sale on them... sufficiently discounted to offset the cost of delivery.

Oh for Gawd's sake, I was afraid that 8-o

On 9/11/01 when I saw the 1st plane hit WTC tower I grabbed my shopping cart and ran to the supermarket and stocked up on 3 gallon jugs of water, canned veggies and toilet paper.

I really don't want to live like that. I decided to stock up on ammunition instead :p

No stockpiling here, but I am moving toward being more self sufficient. Growing my own veggies (got to wait for the snow to let up) I have chickens & Ducks for eggs (we'll seriously never go hungry with this lot - at least a dozen eggs a day)
If I wasn't such a ninnie in the cold, I'd get a milk goat or cow (for milk and cheese) - but I don't wanna go out when its -40 out!!!
I make a lot of stuff I would have been buying a year ago - soap, laundry detergent, jerky, dried fruit etc...

Did I miss something. Was there some major news story? Was it a dream and GW is still in office? Is this about the economy? Should we be stockpiling? Or is this just a thread for pack rats?

On a similar note if I could have stockpiled anything it would have been gasoline about 3 months ago when it was $1.32 a gallon in my area. Where's those big 18-wheel semi tankers when you need one...

I've got chickens too! Love my girls, all 15 of them. We also have 4 ducks as well. I'm not too partial to duck eggs though, too rich. They are great for baking though.

I do have 3 goats also, but they are not producing milk. They are just great for keeping the blackberries down and being our pals.

At least we get a good amount of eggs a day too... no, we won't starve either.

I'm stockpiling as well. We've got about a month's worth of supplies on hand, and I try to shell $40 or $50 a month on canned goods and the like. Given everything I've seen of late, one can't be too careful or prepared.

Batteries, plastic bags and water purification tablets. And socks. Believe you me, one CANNOT have too many clean, dry and warm socks. I probably have 50 pairs. Also, if you're inclined, it's probably not a bad idea to keep between 10 and 20 gallons of water on hand. I am far too lazy to do this, so I'll probably be one of those unfortunate souls who ends up collecting water from the back of the toilet when the times comes.

As an aside, I might recommend a solar panel kit charging or powering various electronic gadgets. You really never know...

Many years ago, I had just got out of the shower, and I heard "THIS HAS BEEN A SPECIAL REPORT FROM ABC NEWS (or some network), STAY WITH US FOR FURTHER..."

I asked my girlfriend what happened. "I don't know, the Russians and something about a nuclear explosion."

WTF?? WTF???? A nuclear bomb? That's the only explosion I could think of that would involve Russia. Holy ****, it really happened. A nuclear exchange with Russia.I turned on CNN.
Chernobyl. Kinda freaked me out for a bit, though.
