No stockpiling here, but I am moving toward being more self sufficient. Growing my own veggies (got to wait for the snow to let up) I have chickens & Ducks for eggs (we'll seriously never go hungry with this lot - at least a dozen eggs a day)
If I wasn't such a ninnie in the cold, I'd get a milk goat or cow (for milk and cheese) - but I don't wanna go out when its -40 out!!!
I make a lot of stuff I would have been buying a year ago - soap, laundry detergent, jerky, dried fruit etc...

I too have become an avid gardener though I haven't had my own back lot to start one in for the last two years. I was going to share how my last garden came to a premature end at the hands of a drunk driver sooner, however, knowing I was sure to be called on it, I decided to track down my photos as proof first.

Its hard to see the full extent of my little veg patch, and the two terraced areas on the hill are completely buried by debris. The reason for the lighting out there is that I'm no fan of direct sunlight and do my gardening at night.

It was a total loss, and right at the peak of ripening. What he didnt destroy going in, the wrecker ripped up pulling it out. And the fluids from the car ruined the soil.

So sorry Mrwade. I know how much work you put into it. Sometimes I feel we're the only ones who actually carry insurance. My DH would have been the same way in regards to the driver.
