Citric acid decomposes into water, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide. Citric acid is used to lower the alkalinity of cigarettes and make the paper burn slower. I'm pretty sure it's in tiny amounts in a lot of e-liquid from the flavors used, so it's probably fine in small amounts at least. If you're thinking about using it for making something sour, that wouldn't work since it breaks down when it's vaporized.

So, why do you ask?

I have been trying to figure this out for a little while now and I can't draw a conclusion. Does anybody know If it is safe to add to ejuice?

Some vendors use citric acid to lower the pH of their nic juice. It does not add tartness in the amounts added, since it is small, and it is largely neutralized to the citrate ion from the basic nic. This is done to reduce nic smell which actually stinks pretty foul.

I don't know what the sour additives are, but I myself would avoid vaping any acid, as it can have a "cooking" effect on tissue. Every had thin sliced beef with lime juice on it? It denatures (cooks) the meat somewhat. Although not much vapor is getting to the lungs, its not something I want in even small measures, and organic acids are also known to have other lung-damging effects. If you find out what the compounds are for the sour flavors, please post them. I'm sure many would be interested.
