Is it OK to stretch out the bottom spring on my Grand?

The spring on my Reo Grand is a little compressed and the battery is very slightly loose and rattles a bit. The spring has not collapsed and the Grand works fine. Can I stretch the spring upward a little to improve the fit, or will that screw it up; or should I just put in a replacement spring.

What battery are you using? Has it always rattled?

I've used larger and smaller 18650s which compresses and then decompresses the spring, this has never happened.

I'd say you have had a short. But others will chime in soon.

The spring is for safety....and you should replace the spring. Even if it has not completely collapsed, it seems to have been "used" to deal with some sort of short or overload, and it will not be as effective ever again. Replacement springs are cheap ($4) and worth the money and peace of mind.

Yup Yup, I vote for replacing the spring. It has been compromised and should be replaced. Always better safe than sorry.

I use AW IMR 18650. The battery has never been what you would call a snug fit, but is definitely looser now. I have been experimenting with SS mesh in a microcoil in my reo2, possibly have had a short between the mesh and top cap perhaps. Sounds like the consensus is to replace the spring; better safe than sorry, I think I've got one around here somewhere.....

I just examined the button, it looks ok. Maybe I'll order a rebuild kit to have on hand just in case. I'll probably continue to use the SS mesh as a wicking material unless you think it is a bad idea in general. I just got tired of burning my cotton wicks all the time, apparently a technique I failed to master. Thanks everyone for the advice; can't afford to let my beloved Grand become screwed up, even though I've got a million devices now, the Reo with reomizer really is the the most bulletproof best engineered device going. I didn't think I would drink the Reo Kool-aid, but I guess I just did....

one thing I've noticed is that these reo people are almost always right glad you are fixed up!
