Isopropyl is pretty heavy duty form of alcohol. I used it a lot to clean the gunk and remove clear coat from circuit cards.
Normally... with agitation...it should do its job quickly...after it dries it will leave a film behind. You don't want to vape this.
simply clean the components in some light dish soap solution and rinse until squeaky clean. :)

in the day we used mineral spirits to remove conformal coating from circuit boards.
isopropal alcohol is not strong enough.
using a 50/50 solution, swish it about and let sit for about 5 minuts.
blow out and place in front of a fan.it will dry completly within 2 hours or less.
this is after a good rinse using hot water.
after evaporation there will be no residue.
any traces if detectable are negligible.(harmless)

mike
p.s. i still think vodka is good and i hope it does leave residue. :)

So because a few idiots abused it, lets make sure no one can get it. The liberal PC police strike again.

I live in a dry county in the bible belt. Every time a ballot measure gets brought up to allow liquor sales the SOUTHERN BAPTIST CHURCHES go apes**t crazy and fall all over themselves getting it struck down so that people don't even get a chance to vote on it much less pass it.

Are those the "liberal PC police" you are talking about??

I also live in the bible belt and don't have that issue as PGA is available in liquor stores in GA. But you are right that the Southern Baptists are very anti-drinking. But in NY or PA it was not the Southern Baptists that got laws like this enacted. It is the liberal, nanny state crowd that wants to tell us all what we can and can't do that got this type of legislation enacted. The same with vaping. It is only liberal politicians that are calling on vaping to be banned and severely restricted. That's just a fact.

I was surprised when I saw Everclear in liquor stores here in New York. I wanted it but I didn't feel like buying a 1 liter bottle of it for $23 whatever. I saw other brands with less proof and smaller bottles but I'm a perfectionist and wanted Everclear or nothing. So now I have nothing. This happens a lot.

I don't like cleaning my gear with just water. ANY remaining water seems to ruin the taste of liquids.

This all makes me really glad to live out here in the wild west (Colorado.) We can pretty much buy anything out here. I'd recommend vodka and hot water rinses for cleaning, then let it dry over night or in front of a fan. Vodka works the best in my opinion because I usually just make a cocktail while I'm cleaning. I use shot glasses to my soak my components. When my husband comes home from work, he's like, "Doing shots again during the day?" What's a homemaker to do? :)

(My local liquor store doesn't carry PGA so I use the cheapest bottom-shelf vodka they have).
I went to buy PGA recently and the store only had pricey stuff in fancy bottles. I bought the cheapo vodka, too. ;)

Some of my favorite quotes about life in "dry" locales:

"Being in a dry county doesn't mean people don't drink. It just means it's against the law to buy and sell it." - Roger Brashears

"If there is, as a product of sincere conviction and honest observance of the law, such a reality as the 'Dry South,' I have yet to see it." - R. Charlton Wright

"Mississippi was a dry state, one of the last in America, but its dryness was merely academic, a gesture to the preachers and churches. My father would say the only difference between Mississippi and its neighbor Tennessee, which was wet, was that in Tennessee a man could not buy liquor on Sunday." - Willie Morris

"Mississippi will drink wet and vote dry-- so long as any citizen can stagger to the polls." - Will Rogers (attributed)
