Bought an eGo from a Cdn online supplier (named a distributor on joyetech site) but the cig, box & paper insert do not mention joyetech, only eGo. Seller advised in writing that it was authentic joyetech. Seller advised manufacturer changed branding 4-6 months ago and this is an older model with no branding. Thoughts??? Oh, within 30 min of first charge, both battery & charger got so pretty hot so I unplugged - scary!! Thanks.

Usually if they are on joyetech list of suppliers then they are under contract to only sell genuine joyetech products. Cant say for sure but its probably genuine. What type of ego is it? eGo-t eGo-c? size of battery in mAh?

As for the battery getting hot, I would definitely contact the supplier and let them know its getting hot, they should replace it.

It's listed on the website as a Joye eGo (neither c or t). There are c & t listed on other kits but not this one. It's simply stainless with nothing written on it at all, nowhere. Except the box states eGo. Battery/charger got hot after the initial 10-min I left it on the charger. Something seems not right about it. I ret'd it - let's see what gives. Thanks!!

Besides the lack of branding which is right, what makes you think its non gen? Does it not live up to the hype?

It's hard to imagine a brand new 'authentic' unit would have heat up in the first 10 minutes of charging. Both the charger & battery got beyond warm (escpecially the usb charger). I thought the unit would have Joyech at least written somewhere. Thanks for your reply.

I have an older ego-t that is genuine but only has ego-t eched onto the battery, but it doesnt say joyetech anywhere on it.
Check this out, it might help:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...w-tell-if-youve-got-genuine-joyetech-ego.html

Like I said, if the battery/charger are getting hot I would immediately contact the supplier, this is not normal.

I just checked mine. All of my newer ones have ego-T etched on them, but not JOYE. I get mine from CigNot, I am pretty sure they are selling authentic Joye Egos, but interestingly enough my older batts that I bought a year ago from Cignot, do not have ANYTHING written on it. So what the OP was told about it being an older model without writing on it might be correct.

But if I just bought a new batt, I would not want one that was older, even if it was never used. If you got it six months ago, however, that might have been around the time they were changing them and you got yours just before the newer models came out.

I would NOT use a batt or charger that got hot. I'd toss it if I couldn't get it replaced.

EDIT: Thanks for your link to that thread. Looks like I do have genuine eGo's.

I wouldn't sweat it too much... I had a couple of "genuine" egos with joye on the charge cap (pass through) and ego t written on the batt body. Neither lasted very long. Genuine or not, you'll get shoddy workmanship. It's all mass produced in the same place so it makes little difference. Those who try to swindle you into believing a branding's superiority are sad little brainwashed capitalists. Pay it no heed n enjoy the hobby instead. ;)

The picture of the button on the battery means almost nothing.
I have several off brand clone batteries that were sold as Riva's but aren't that brand either. Button looks exactly like that shown as a Joyetech one.

If it's a Joye it should have it etched into it.

There's so many fakes, and some look exactly like the Joyes. If you want a Joye and it doesn't say it on the product or come in boxes clearly from Joye Tech Co, I'd pass.

Look. Here's alilbaba and a query on Joyetech. On the first page of many they don't even make the top of the list as a manufacturer.
Joyetech-Joyetech Manufacturers, Suppliers and Exporters on Alibaba.com

Here's their company;
Shenzhen Joye Tech Co., Ltd. - Electronic Cigarette, E-Cigarette, Mini E-Cigarette

verses the fakes;
Shenzhen Top Chances Trade Co., Ltd. - electronic cigarette,e liquid,accessories
Shenzhen Ten One Technology Co., Ltd. - Electronic Cigarette, E cigarette, Ecigs
Shenzhen Elego Technology Co., Ltd. - Electronic cigarette, e-cigarette, e-cig
