I have an older ego-t that is genuine but only has ego-t eched onto the battery, but it doesnt say joyetech anywhere on it.
Check this out, it might help:

Like I said, if the battery/charger are getting hot I would immediately contact the supplier, this is not normal.
I just checked mine. All of my newer ones have ego-T etched on them, but not JOYE. I get mine from CigNot, I am pretty sure they are selling authentic Joye Egos, but interestingly enough my older batts that I bought a year ago from Cignot, do not have ANYTHING written on it. So what the OP was told about it being an older model without writing on it might be correct.
But if I just bought a new batt, I would not want one that was older, even if it was never used. If you got it six months ago, however, that might have been around the time they were changing them and you got yours just before the newer models came out.
I would NOT use a batt or charger that got hot. I'd toss it if I couldn't get it replaced.
EDIT: Thanks for your link to that thread. Looks like I do have genuine eGo's.
