Is my VorteX (eGo, Riva, etc) atty dead?

Bought a Vortex from eliquidplanet.com, they're right nearby my house.

Great people, awesome service too!

Here's my issue though:

Last night, the atty just stopped making vapor.

It made a LITTLE bit.

Still sizzles, but it takes a while to start sizzling.

I tried the Highping method (twice) and I was able to get it to sizzle faster.

I did NOT get an orange glow though, no matter how long I kept the dry burn going.

Either way, I'm not getting great hits.

I've been using carts with the straw mod in it, and I made sure it was always wet (never dry).

Help!

I think the full highping method includes washing them out 1st.... But you may need to repeat washing.

I use HOT tap water, and rinse them really well. Blow it out, rinse again. Then I "dry burn" (more like a warm burn... just enough to dry the coil). This is usually sufficient. If not, I also try it with isopropyl alcohol (ISO) and dry it. Lastly, I'll dry burn it hard (as a last resort).

The orange glow can sometimes only be seen in a dim room. Also, where it glows varies by atty type.

Recommend that you blow the atty out twice per day.... and most claim that clearer juices don't clog as fast.

There are about 100,000 other supposedly "nifty" ways to clean an atty. lol. Ultrasonic cleaners, vodka, vinegar with or without baking soda, and mouthwash.

You have good instincts... the "sizzle factor" you mention indicated a gunked coil. You may wish to try dripping, and forgo the cart for a few vapes, just to ensure that you're not having a wicking issue or some such.

Hope some of this helps at least.

Good Luck!

Thanks!

Forgot to mention, I did wash it out, twice actually :/

I did not try isopropyl alcohol as yet, but I think I'll do that if I can't get this working.

I'm glad that ELP will replace it though, but it's good to know what to do in the future haha.

I blow them out 3-4 times a day usually, once it starts to gurgle (or if it was to begin with).

No orange glow yet, but I'll try the dim room, maybe that'll do it!

What battery are you using to do a dry burn? If you aren't getting a orange glow it could be one of several things, 1-bad atty, 2-build up on the coil or 3-the battery just isn't powerful enough to burn off the build up.

When I first started doing dry burns I let the atty get so gunked up the battery didn't have enough juice to burn it off. I was trying it on a Riva and went through 2 fully charged batteries and never got a glow from the atty.

I then got a 5v pass through that I have since dedicated to dry burning attys and that solved the problem. If the coil isn't very gunked then a reg 510 battery might do it but still it stressed them A LOT. If it's really gunked like it was the first time I did a dry burn I don't think 100 Rivas with a full charge would have done it.

I'm using a stock 3.7v Riva battery. I managed to get orange ONCE, but it wouldn't hold.

I guess it's pretty gunked up because I can't get a consistent orange burn.

Might have to invest in a passthrough lol.

I'd get a pass thru just for the fact it stresses those batteries. If you got an orange glow then it's at least partially burned off or you wouldn't see the orange. You might want to soak it in alcohol and maybe it'll help weaken the rest up enough that another dry burn will help. Alcohol evaporates quicker than water which makes it easier to dry burn after soaking and blowing the excess out.

Gonna order a passthrough right now, and I need to pick up some alcohol. Would rubbing alcohol work, or isopropyl?

What can I pick up from CVS? lol

If you get a 5v pass through then get a ac/usb adapter rated at 2 amp or more like the one linked below. A computer USB isn't designed for higher amperage output and trying to get it can damage the port or other components. Even if it works you likely won't be getting full power to the pass through.

If you get a 3.7v pass through then you're fine to run it off the computer, no adapter needed.

Get the higher percentage isopropyl alcohol, I think it's 91%, 70% is also commonly available but takes longer to evaporate. You can find it most anywhere, pharmacies, Walmart, etc.

2 amp AC to USB Adapter, ideal for Passthroughs
