So I have steam engine for telling me what ohms a coil will be after its built, but I haven't used it as I have never built a coil. Just got a mech and the shop built the first one for me. I'm looking into making coils, but I dont have an ohm meter. Is steam engine reliable for measuring coil resistance without having anything to test it? (I know its irresponsible, but I'm on vacation and I'm broke...) Thanks for any help!

You need either an ohm meter or a regulated mod that has the ohm meter built in -- Vamo, sigelei, Innokin, etc -- mechs don't have any electronics, so can't tell you anything -- I'm assuming that finding out about a short by exploding your battery isn't your first choice.

Nic`d Up in Oklahoma!
Three tools I use with certainty.

Steam engine.

Wikis page on AWG sizes so I know what I have if it is unmarked/unknown.

And a dial caliper so I can verify the size of the wire (Ya, I use all the wire they send in RDA`a, for something at some point.

While Iv gotten to point I pretty much just wind and see what I got, the last time I used steam engine for a dual set up it was within .06 of being spot on. :?)

Well it's certainly better than "hope". LOL

I mean you could use the calculator to tell you how many wraps you need to get what you want - but it cannot tell you if your build has a short! The Hana will definitely tell you if it's shorted out...

What about the ohm reader on a Hana? Is it reliable?

Why did I have the idea that a Hana is a mech? No idea. I googled "hana", found "hana modz" and there's a bunch of multicolored box mods... but I could have sworn that a Hana was a mech tube mod.

I don't know how accurate the Hana's meter is, but most of the regulated mods do a pretty good job; they have to, if they offer variable wattage, since it has to sense the resistance to be able to set the proper voltage according to whatever wattage you select. I know the iTaste vv/vw v3 generally reads high; all my vv3's will see 1.9Ω though my other regulated mods will see the same coil as 1.8Ω.

But my first vv3 was my only ohm checker when I first started building coils; when I got the sigelei zmax and saw how it read coils differently than the vv3, I realized I needed a real meter, and got an Omnitester, which also will check a mod's output voltage, so you can check voltage drop. It's a nifty tool, and not expensive; think I got mine at litecigusa.net, they had the best price I could find at the time.
