Agreed that it's pointless to use TC for 600F, it defeats the purpose... Even if you go only by visuals rather than advice... dry fire some cotton at 350F and increase each time by 5, all the boards I know of will start to singe it at around 400F, even with the difference of it being wet, anything over 460F (and that's being generous) you're roasting your cotton and might as well just use power mode...

But the other thing that's not quite right, for example here is the TFR range I use for titanium...

As you can see the TI-01 coil will have 1.84659x the base cold resistance at 482F !!! For example a 0.5 ohm coil would be 0.923295 a whopping 0.423295 ohm difference between 68F and 482F.

This is why many of the TC pioneers stick to Ni200, NiFe and Ti-01 because the TCR of these wire types create the greatest change in resistance and thus can provide a more accurate temperature regulated vape.

Why bother trying to regulate (for example) Nichrome when GOOD TC wire is cheap and available?

I find that icannot live without TC on my main desk PVs.. i start a long coding session glued to the monitor and side pause every so often to take a toke without even looking at how much juice i have in there.

If i am in deep concentration on some snippet of code i am writing i may be taking two or three hits before realising there is no juice in the tank. So yeah TC is right for my style of vaping.

I find that the board I use does tc very well with SS 430 with this csv file, or at least it's accurate enough that I've never had any complaints or ever had to mess w/ it.

But you're def. right about kanthal, real tc with kanthal is simply not possible. At least with the technology I've seen up till now.

edit: actually the boards that I've seen that claim it don't even use a proper TFR range, just a modified tcr value.

I personally don't care if they are using odins magical fairy farts, if it works it works. For me, it works. Do o care how, nope. Is it perfect, nope. Do i enjoy the heck out of it, you betcha. In the end that's all that matters, that the person who is using the mod likes how it performs for them.

Which is fine, if you are using it and you like it. I didn't say anything about that. Personally TC for me has been very frustrating untill escribe and TFR range took all the potential points of failure out of it.

Btw, just out of curiosity, why do you want to still use kanthal?

I still use kanthal at times because i still have about 600 ft of 20 and 22 gauge left. I also use stainless, but can't see throwing out good wire.

Agreed... that, and not all of my mods are capable of TC...

You could always sell it on the classies here... I still have a bunch of it too, but the main reason I don't use it anymore is it doesn't taste as clean.

Yeah after using stainless it's not as good, but i got it cheap, so i don't care if the build only lasts a day when I'm playing around with new things and rdas etc. My every day is stainless, but i like being able to play with making strange builds using a wire that doesn't matter if i throw it out after 5 minutes.

I use SS 430 in power mode all the time, it's actually better for mechanical mods bc it's lower resistance, but not too low.

Not that I use them much anymore, but still.

Got a Limitless plus with dual coils thats approximately 0.25 Ohm. In TC mode I have 100 watts to get a good hit. In watts mode on "hard" Smok Alien I get a good hit at 75 watts. Does "hard" ramp it to 100 watts?

Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Yup... "hard" is roughly a 30% boost at the very beginninh of a pull... depends a little on the mod. Some offer bigger boosts, some less, some offer none.

I have 2 spools of 430, and I like it, but I find 316l much easier to work with.

True, but it's nickel free and consistent, I tried regular 316 SS for a while when it first became a thing, horribly inconsistent even with the proper TFR range. (not the one the DNA board comes w/). I believe that 430 has the best balance for TC. It's just too bad that it's so spendy compared to other materials and that you can only get the real thing from one place.

316L/317L are both great for TC but I don't use them anymore bc they contain 10 to 15% nickel

I like the science in TC but haven't tried it, my Odessey kit came with a nickel coil and I'm not gonna vape on nickel coils. I want to see studies on how much nickel is released in the vape first
Find a setup that allows the use of SS...
