Hi,
Long-time smoker; new to vaping.
My setup –
Evic Vtwo Mini
I use the Evic in temperature control mode – 470 Fahrenheit at 60 watts.
Sense Blazer Mini tank with .2 ohm coil; coil is rated at 50 to 80 watts.
The resistance for the coil shows as .23 on the Evic so that is where I locked it.

Coil priming -
Coil primed until nearly leaking on the table.
Coil placed in tank, tank filled with juice, I take five or six pulls on the tank without
hitting the fire button.
Wait 5-10 minutes, take my first puffs starting at 30 watts and, in 5 watt increments,
work my way up to 60 watts.
Any wattage above 60 produces more heat but no increase in flavor.

When the coil is initially installed, the flavor is great.
After two days the coil produces the same amount of vapor but with a bitter taste.
I assume this is what is known as a “burnt coil”.
I examined the coil – the cotton looks fine but the wire coil is nearly black.
This has happened with two coils – both .2ohm.
I don’t chain-vape and I top off the tank when it is 50% empty

The juice is Cali-Yogo Strawberry Max VG
Is it the juice that is ruining my coils or am I doing something wrong?
If it is the juice, can forum members provide an alternative?

Thanks for any and all advice.
Peter

Max vg juice is thicker and is sweet in itself, that with certain flavors and sweetners just gunk up coils and that's the blackness your seeing. You can find other juices that won't gunk as quickly or do your own coils like previously mentioned, at least when your doing your own, it basically doesnt cost anything

Hi Peter. Welcome to the ECF.

Sounds like your New Coil Pre-Vape tech is Good. And while 470F/60w is Higher than what I would like, if you Like it, that is all that Matters.

One thing you might try since you are using Max VG e-Liquid is to put 2 or 3 Drops of Water into an Empty Bottle and then mix in a Tank's Worth of your e-Liquid (3ml ?).

Adding a Small amount of Water to a High VG e-Liquid can sometimes Extend Coil Life.

I lost coil gunking once I began DIY and use no sweeteners. Its the sweetness of juices that burn onto a coil causing it to cocoon then die. Using high power along with sweet juice thats cooking onto the coil after your take the vape(you can hear it sizzling several seconds after) and the coil is cooling down half burning the juice, especially using thick and multiwire builds. Take a couple/few seconds of unpowered slower hit after the hit to cool the coil down faster, pulling too hard unpowered and you might pull too much juice and flood the coil.

Like others have said it sounds like you have a good procedure setting up your coils, however, your juice may be the culprit here. Some juices just gunk coils up faster than others. I've found that Heather's Heavenly Vapes vape super clean and they taste real good. Along with their line of fruit/beverage/desert flavors they also have 14 or 15 NETs or Naturally Extracted Tobacco flavors that are REAL good. They're US based in Georgia reasonably priced. Might want to give them a try.

I'd agree that with high VG (which I have to use, I can't inhale PG successfully) when I use sweeter or darker juices, my coil will get gunked in about two days. I'm experimenting with less sweet juices (except coco flavor, which is my go to for stressful situations or out and about) and finding the problem is less... It's amazing what a few drops of water will do, I'd agree with that wholeheartedly. That said, though, even in a small, MTL tank and at 14 watts or so, I get that burnt taste (I view it as a heroic achievement! I couldn't even TASTE burnt coils when I was dual using) I change my coil immediately, before it gets *awful*. To extend my coil life I will soak them in H20 overnight, then leave them outside for a day to dry out, after rinsing and cleaning them thoroughly.... My cotton and coils are pretty revitalized, and I can do it several times before junking a coil.

I don't know if you can do that with your sub-ohm coils, but I will say that-- sure, experiment with juices-- and if you still like some that are super sweet or dark, use them as well, from time to time.... You can *try* decreasing your wattage if you want, but it's not super necessary, and it's good, especially to start, having juices you really like the flavor of, as you'll be more likely to vape as you are experimenting with other flavors. I'm sure someone here can tell you if your coils are soakable/rechargable or not.

Just curious. But about how many ml's do you use in an Average week?

Just changed my mix but before i had 50/50 mixes which on a 30ml bottle lasted about 2 weeks on my nautilus tank.
At the moment i'm using 80vg and 60vg mixes on a new fat scylla sv going through a couple 4ml tanks each day,no numbers unfortunately i just fill it up when empty lol.

Gotcha.

The reason I asked was because a Friend of mine e-Mailed me once and said that Her coils only last about 4 Days. But one of co-workers is running the Exact same Set-up and He said that his coils last about a week and a half. What Gives?

Turns out that She is doing about 9ml/day. And He is going thru about 3ml/day. So when you do the Math, it is about the same ml-wise.

Well most people will probably tell you that coil duration will vary depending how much fluid you vape, what kind of mix (50/50-70/30-80/20) and it's wattage. My current coil is a .25 0hm rated up to 60 watts,i use it at 55 watts and it's been close to a week now since i bought it still taste fine to me. And i go through more than your friends on a daily basis i refill about twice everyday on my 4ml tank ahah :p

Welcome and glad you joined.
You not the first, but what you have is akin to a new driver who just got their learners permit and bought a Indy car to cruise the roadway. Might want to start by reading/studying:

All is not lost, you have a good mod. Your challenge is to find the right atomizer (DL,MTL, Tank, RDA.....?).

Yeah @BrotherBob there are several variables that are at play here... I like your analogy about the Indy car :w00t: as that is very true .... It is also true about thick, sweet, juices crusting up coils at an early age .... I am currently using a hand crafted coil that I made several months ago and I am still puffing off of the thing..... Yeah, it's about time I FINALLY wind another coil and replace it but I am amazed at the amount of time I have been able to blast with this coil and still get a reasonably good vape with good flavor ... But of course, I am the type of person that doesn't mind an off flavor from time to time as it's not going to cause me to immediately wind a coil and replace the wick and coil.... On the other hand, if I start experiencing disgusting hits almost every time I take a puff, then that is my signal to fix the wick/coil....

I want to thank everyone for all of the advice and information.
    Monday –
Thoroughly cleaned the tank and screwed-in another .20 SS coil.
Starting with “White Gummi” juice with a 3 nicotine level.
The liquid is much clearer than the strawberry juice; it has a bit of a sweet taste.
I will see how this juice affects the coil.

One thing you might try since you are using Max VG e-Liquid is to put 2 or 3 Drops of Water into an Empty Bottle and then mix in a Tank's Worth of your e-Liquid (3ml?).
After I finish the White Gummi, I will try this. Thank you for the advice.

Sounds like your New Coil Pre-Vape tech is Good. And while 470F/60w is Higher than what I would like, if you Like it, that is all that Matters.
I spent a good amount of time studying temperature control but my knowledge is limited. My understanding is that TC is supposed to provide a smooth “level” vape up to the selected temperature.
I selected 470 for the strawberry juice because that was the lowest temperature before “protection” activated.
Regarding the 60w – the coil is rated 50-80 watts. I vaped from 50-70 watts and settled at 60 because that provided the best flavor.
I did setup my Evic for TCR but I didn’t notice any benefit. Perhaps I will revisit it.

What are the coils made of? I didn't think the Sense Blazer Mini coils could be used with temperature control.
The Blazer Mini coils are available in ohms of .2/.4/.6. The .2 coil is stainless steel. The Blazer Mini Tank appears to be performing flawlessly – the .2 coil gave great strawberry flavor when I used that juice and there have been no leaks; not a drop.
Maybe it doesn’t matter, but when I fill or top-off the tank, I close the air flow, add juice, close the tank, turn the tank upside down and open the air flow.

Like others have said it sounds like you have a good procedure setting up your coils, however, your juice may be the culprit here. Some juices just gunk coils up faster than others. I've found that Heather's Heavenly Vapes vape super clean and they taste real good. Thank you for these companies – I will look into their products.
I invested about 50 hours researching mods, tanks, coils, batteries, ohms, safety etc. before I made my first purchases – the Evic Two Mini and the Sense Blazer Mini. I now realize the consequences of devoting zero time to researching the various juices.

Just curious. But about how many ml's do you use in an Average week?
A thirty ml bottle lasts me a shade over four days. Perhaps I should cut back. When I am really stressed, I could easily blow through almost two packs of cigarettes in a day (Benson & Hedges 100 lights).

I love me some sweetner but yeah. I change cotton every 4 days and it takes a minute to burn off all that gunk for sure. I don't even use much, 4 drops per 10ml. Without sweetner I can go a couple weeks and they look WAY better. Takes seconds to dry burn not 60 seconds lol. Lowest PG I'd go in a sub ohm tank is 20, 80VG.
