Is there a new ban on e-cigs in Canada? Quebec? Montreal?

I'd had no problems vaping in the bars around montreal, until Saturday Nov 5th, the bartender said he read that e-cigs are now illegal; something he read in 'La Press'.

I've been searching the web, but have found no reference to any such new law. Any info anyone?

Sounds like another Journalist who didn't do his research. They aren't illegal, and no smoking laws have been revised to include vaping as of yet.

I've checked out La Presse's website, and can't find anything other than the usual line of BS from a year or two ago. Even read that Propylene Glycol is toxic to humans... LOL. Sure... if you drink a gallon of it. Even Vitamin A is toxic. Sigh...

There always has been a ban, now they have just stepped up inspections and refusals.

To quote Health Canada (email I received):

"Electronic cigarettes with nicotine are not approved for sale in Canada. Companies are required to submit a new drug submission. Also, non-filled e-cigarettes with a health claim must have medical device license."

So for hardware, as long as there's no Health Claim (e.g. smoking cessation), they should not interfere with sale or importation.

This is all sale and importation though. There are no laws regulating personal use of the devices. Perfectly legal to vape in public.

There's no ban on vaping in public places. It's ultimately just up to the employees whether or not they let you do it. Basically comes down to education, or lack thereof.

The good old "please show me the law code that prohibits me from producing a non-toxic vaper" that you can use .
Anyways, that's what I use. Ain't no one who's gonna keep me from doing something perfectly legal!

How can someone tell if you have nicotine in the cartridge????? If they sell e-cigs at London Drugs, then how can people say they are illegal. If you don't tell them the carts have NIC, nobody will know the difference.......IMO anyway

As long as you are not importing the product per se, there should be absolutely NO legal issues with vaping. There is not one law article that says that one cannot use a device to release non-toxic vapor into the air.
Hell, I couldn'T even find one article that LEGALLY prohibits the importation of the stuff. The only related article was published by Health Canada in 2009, and there is fine line between HC telling people not to import electronic cigarettes and an actual LAW that prohibits such activity.
