Is there a proper way to inhale?

So I'm fairly new to vaping, and I didn't smoke analogs beforehand, so I'm a little clueless about the inhaling thing. When I first started I was simply sucking it into my mouth and then blowing it out, and I ended up tasting virtually nothing, then once I got this chocolate-flavoured e-juice I started to really enjoy it and let the vape out of my mouth and sniff it up into my nose. Then once I tried doing this with other flavours, which I had previous thought were amazing, I started to taste them for what they really were and was disgusted by them. I can't vape watermelon or coffee-banana flavours anymore, now the chocolate flavour is the only one I like.

So how should I be vaping then? Also, has anyone else experienced something like this with their flavours?

Do you mind if I ask why you started vaping if you didn't smoke, no judgement or anything just curious! But you can ignore my question if you wouldn't want to answer. I've found that drawing on a vaporiser is different to an analog anyway, but only slightly. I take a long slow draw in my mouth, basically if you imagine sucking a drink through a straw into your mouth (but without swallowing it), then once your mouth is full take the vaporiser away from your mouth and open your mouth and breath in all the vapor. *warning this might suck the first few times!* Good chance you are going to cough, like a lot! This is normal since your lungs are all nice and healthy, unlike mine :)

I initially started because I was curious about the technology, being someone who's obsessed with technology and all. I had to know what it was, up close, in person. Also, smoking without the cancer seemed like a nice activity to try out. Especially since I got my e-juice without nicotine, so quitting would be a lot easier. Later I found it made watching movies/ TV shows a lot easier, since I kind of need something to do while watching, otherwise I get bored. Normally I'd eat, but I've started gaining weight so vaping seemed like a healthier alternative.

As for what you and the other two people who have replied to this thread suggested, I actually have tried that before, and it throws me into a huge coughing fit every time, so I tend to avoid doing it. I've been vaping for about 2 months now, and taking it in the lungs hasn't gotten any easier.

Are dual-coils supposed to be smoother? I've tried them once awhile ago and it certainly felt smoother, but at the time I was inexperienced, so I don't really know if it was supposed to be like that.

Ah cool, I'm the same with being kind of fidgety, can't possibly just sit at peace and watch a movie! Yeh, sounds like you are inhaling but it's just killing your lungs as you don't have the years of tar build up that us ex-smokers get the benefit of  haha! Do you inhale into your lungs often? If you stick with it solidly for a few days I'd imagine it would get easier, well at least it did when I first started smoking cigs. I got a few of the bottom dual coils, the bottom coils seem to produce a cooler vape that might be less harsh, also if you are using a variable voltage/wattage device maybe turn it down to a low setting to get a cooler moister vape, if you don't have one maybe get one also I've read it's the PG that produces the 'throat hit' so maybe an all VG blend might be easier to inhale?

If all else fails maybe just keep only taking the vapor into your mouth, I mean why not! There are no hard rules, vape the way you enjoy it! So if it gives you the flavour and you don't enjoy inhaling or need the nicotine in your system then why bother.

I try not to inhale for the most part, since every time I do I throw a coughing fit, but I suppose once in awhile I try it to see if I can. I use 100% VG and never tried PG before because I'm afraid of any possible allergic reactions, or even the development of an allergy to it. The thing is though, taking it into the mouth makes it taste like virtually nothing, but I sort of enjoy taking it up the nose. Problem is though that it made me start to dislike every flavour except my coffee flavour.

And while we're here, there's something else I'd like to discuss. I read while lurking on this site before that it's standard to have one cartomizer for each flavour. I once made the mistake of cleaning out a used cartomizer and putting a different liquid inside, and the taste from the previous liquid lingered inside and it tasted awful, so ever since then I started to keep one cartomizer per flavour. Are there any cartomizers/ atomizers that don't keep the previous liquid lingering inside? This would be useful to test flavours before buying a dedicated cartomizer for them.

A large part of flavor is actually smell, so don't close off your nose when vaping, use it on the inhale and exhale for best flavor. Btw, filling your mouth up then inhaling some with your nose is called a " French Inhale".

They actually call it that? I thought it was just a small joke from the movie Grease.

Since you were never a tobacco smoker, there's no reason for you to inhale vapor. Since you are a recreational vaper, just inhale into your mouth like pipe or cigar smokers do. Hold it in your mouth for a second. Either inhale into your lungs, or exhale.

Your sense of taste is greatly aided by your sense of smell. You know this when you have a head cold and you can not taste your food. So exhale some of the vapor through your nose for better flavor perception.

I know this is tangential to the main point of the thread, but...

Dual coils are interesting, they're more complicated than I'd imagined. I don't know if you own a variable voltage device (I don't... yet), so I'll assume you're using a fixed voltage, and that you have two atomizers of identical total resistance: one single coil, one double, both standard clearomizers. Here's my understanding.

The power used to heat both atomizers is the same, but in the case of dual coils, that power is split between the two coils. That translates to each coil receiving only half the wattage of its single coil counterpart. This means each coil is heating up less, which will probably result in a cooler, less intense vape if you're using standard clearomizers. I have yet to decide if they necessarily produce more vapor at the voltage afforded by a standard ego battery, but I don't think so. So, I don't know if they're "supposed" to be smoother, but at a fixed (moderate) voltage, they're likely to be. Now, if you crank up the voltage/wattage, you'll have both coils behaving more like a single coil device at the "old" lower voltage/wattage, which should provide a more vapor-laden experience.

I still have a myriad of questions myself, and it's only gotten worse now that I'm experimenting with rebuilding cheapo clearomizers, both single and double bottom coil.

Very informative. I think I'll be sticking to single coils though, not just because I own batteries fixed to 1100 mAH, but also because single coils look less messy and are easier to clean.

My better half draws into her mouth and then into her lungs. I used to do that too at first as all the disposable clearomizers were too tight of a draw for me to go straight to lung. Now that I use the Nautilus or the Aerotank Mega I go straight to lung and find it the most pleasurable. For the life of me I can't get enough vapor if I use the mouth to lung method so I don't even try that anymore. I've tried exhaling through my nose as people told me that I'd get more of the nicotine that way, but I absolutely Hate the feeling of the wet nose that I get from the vapor coming out my nose. Not sure how others can handle that, it annoys me too much.

Welcome to ECF! I inhale just like I did a analog. Draw the vapor into my mouth then inhale. But I take a few hita at a time vapeing. Not 1, like I did with analogs.
For 35 years I smoked analogs by drawing the smoke into my mouth then inhaling. As a teenager my friends all inhaled directly and when they tried my way they said the TH was too strong.

Since I started vaping 4 weeks ago ( and no more analogs since day of 5 of vaping :) ) vaping seems to take more effort I tend to take long slow draws inhaling as go. Sometimes I think I'm not even inhaling the vapor. I just tried a long slow draw followed by a deliberate inhale and it felt like the back of my throat was on fire! After 35 years of analogs I think now the less stuff I consciously inhale the better. Though I do tend to take twice as many puffs as I did with analogs.

That's a problem I have with vaping: No finite end like there is when an analog gets to the ..... I've got to mentally tell myself that that's enough vaping for now.
