Is there any disadvantage to 2 and 3 hole pre-punched cartos over single hole?

I am about to buy a stock of replacement cartos for my tanks but want to be sure I get the right thing. I've been using the single hole kind without too much issue aside from the odd bad carto.

Are the cartos with more than one hole only for thick liquid or something like that? Or should I expect no problems using the kind with 3 holes?

Will too many holes for regular liquid cause flooding or anything?

What's the downside? I figure there has to be one or they wouldn't make single-hole cartos.

I punch mine myself, and I put two small holes with a saddle valve. I mostly use thin juices and I don't have leaking problems. But yes, too many or too big holes and it's going to leak. From what I have seen pre-punched cartos usually have really small holes, so three shouldn't be a problem, but the only way to know for sure is to use them and find out.

I have tried all kinds of carto configurations for my tanks trying to find the right configuration for me.

My experience at least has been that single hole 3ohm single coil is ok, polyfill might get a bit dry at the top but doesn't really effect vapor.

On a single hole 2ohm single coil I had to reprime the carto once or twice between refills usually. 2 hole 2ohm single coil seems to be my sweet spot, but will occasionally get slightly flooded near the end of the cartos life.

I haven't had any luck with single hole dual coil cartos at any ohms, a few good hits then vapor falls off and starts to burn the filler. I haven't seen the need for a 3 hole carto yet personally.

That being said my brother has much different results using nearly identical gear (all 4.2-3.2v unregulated PV's). I take longer draws using lower mg nic liquid and hotter cartomizers so my tanks can run dry quick (and flood faster, either due to heat thinning the liquid or possibly the air in the tank expanding... not sure which it is but happens more to me then my brother). Unfortunately you will have to experiment a bit yourself but it doesn't take long to find the right combination.

To me the 2 hole punched cartos are perfect and I like them because I usually don't have to punch another hole in them if the juice is not too thick and they work well. But if the juice is thicker I use my saddle valve and hammer and make one of the holes bigger. If I have a one hole punched one I usually have to punch another hole.

You will just have to get a sample or two and check it out. For me the 2 hole pre-punched DC in a tank was just too wet, too fast. And I even use thick 100 VG stuff. Is there such a thing as an over saturated carto? It sure seemed that way to me. No problems with leaking - I just didn't like the performance.

I punch my own with nail and hammer- one hole 2.5 mm wide and flow is perfect on Smok Tech XL 1.7 single coil BUT as poster AuBadge pointed out each to their own. Vape 60/40, 70/30 and 80/20 PG/VG. Friends are using the saddle punch with great success. I find with a carto/tank setup the first fill is most important.
Good Luck.
