Is there any other product which we would tolerate such a high failure level?

Seriously. Is there another product in the world where you would put up with this much BS?

I've been vaping for a while now. I've dealt with:

  • batteries that fail within the first week,
  • atomizers that stop working for no apparent reason,
  • e-cigs that turn themselves on and burn,
  • countless youtube videos featuring homemade tips and workarounds to get the product to function as intended,
  • I must walk around with a little man-purse full of plastic doodads, vials, wires, syringes and bent paperclips.
Compare this to any other electronic gadget. Say… a cellphone.
Can you imagine an ECF-style forum devoted to getting them to work as intended?
New workaround to dial a "4" is now up on youtube.
or .. Hey! That earphone is great! Mine lasted 3 weeks!
or .. Watch my 10 minute video on how to get your phone to hang up!

Adverb,
I believe this is one of the reasons e-cigarettes can deter new users because there is really a lot of work you have to do to reach nirvana. But at the same time, this is what intrigued me and why I kind of look at vaping as more of a hobby than a habit. I guess I am the kind of guy who likes to carry around a bag full of plastic doodads, vials, wires, syringes and bent paperclips. :D

I know that many share your experience, Adverb, but at least one person (me) hasn't experienced any of it. My eGo has performed flawlessly from the day I got it. I've yet to have even a single atomizer go out! I do carry a little case with doodads, but only when I'm out and about all day and I want to have a variety of flavors or extra juice with me. I frequently just put my eGo in my pocket and go out without my kit at all.

I've been nothing but thrilled!

Perhaps I'm just one of the lucky few. :2cool:

Nope .... the quality is very poor in this industry.
I'd say you get what you pay for, but sometimes the crap is more expensive than the good stuff.

Even the consistency in the same brand and model is terrible.

I have found the combination of vendors and products that work flawlessly now.
But it took a lot of time and cash.

I was right there with you Adverb. Sick of fiddling with gadgets, items from the bathroom, office supplies, ecigs that did not vape or almost caught fire. Finally I got a Provape (lifetime warranty), couple of batteries, and am good to go. Still have to worry about the atty, carto, or whichever and carry an extra, but not as big a pain as the other ones. Just pop on a drip tip, grab the juice, and spare battery and go. Wish it would do 5v but with the lr atty or carto it is perfect for all day without burning up juice or atty/carto. No problem unit. Trouble free as long as you have a battery ready to roll. Man bag no more, you can even put all of this in the cell phone carrier, not the one from the 90's though when those things were giant walkie talkies, ha!

Just save up and invest in a good battery operated mod, then you will be good to go. (Minus charging batteries at night, and keeping a good supply of attys or cartos around.)

That is why I chose GreenSmoke when I first started, over 8 months ago, doing my own research; it was no fuss, screw the prefilled flavored carto on a cig sized battery and go. Done. And it did me fine until recently, quality has gone down imho, the slight variety that was there is gone, mostly thanks to the govt.
But I guess with this product, bigger means better in terms of battery lasting, power, etc.
I hope quality and reliability continues to improve, whether it can get smaller or less fuss, not sure. I hope my new Ego products last me a good long time without failure!

P.S. LOL at the man purse...

Odds are.. It won't last.

Perhaps not. But I'm prepared for that. Fortunately I have a lot of electronics/battery experience, and there's not much to an eGo: the battery, the cone, the atomizer and the carts. The cone isn't functionally critical, the atomizer & carts are cheap and I can keep a supply of spares on hand, and I can easily replace the battery using parts I can buy around town. Worst case, I could build my own pv from scratch in an afternoon. So I have no fear.

But your point is correct. I'm not a normal person, and normal people should be able to rely on this stuff instead of specialized skillsets.

I can only imagine that as the industry matures, quality will improve. If it doesn't, then I'll take advantage of the market opportunity to make and sell my own high quality pv's. It wouldn't be that hard, assuming there's a large enough market willing to pay for high quality goods.

I know many people have had at least some of these issues. I consider myself lucky, I'm yet to have a battery stop working, all my atties have lasted at least a month before dying, and any problems I have actually encountered have been fixed and eliminated. I carry my eGo and a bottle of juice with me, and I'm a happy vaper ^_^

I'm sorry that you have had such bad luck, but stick with it, you'll find that sweet spot.

Here's what I'm dealing with in responses like this (which I do appreciate)...

SuperT p18650+aw 18650 2600mah battery+1 spare atty(ya never know)
I have NO idea what this means. If I google "SuperT p18650+aw 18650 2600mah battery" ... I know even less because I'm a geek, but not a battery/electronics geek.

1 5-10ml bottle of your favorite juice=all day vape,if you can put up with dripping,
I can't put up with dripping. I drive a lot.

if not, then a couple(maybe 3)carto's.I still have all my stuff from when I started vaping 4 months ago,and it all still works-including atty's
My experience with cartomizers led to even more cost and frustration. I'm back to filling the little cartridges, hoping that my battery doesn't go nuclear when I'm not watching it. I'd love to get pass-throughs for the car and computer.. but the reviews I've seen at vendor sites usually read "WORKED GREAT FOR 6 WEEKS THEN IT DIED! I CAN'T WAIT TO GET ANOTHER ONE!"

Will check them out. Is there a reason that their starter kits are triple the normal prices found elsewhere?

I wouldn't call my post a recommendation, but it worked for me for a long time, but I've just upgraded, yet to something more "complicated". Cost wise, IDK why they are more expensive. I would consider it a quality product. After the initial kit purchase, the cartos saved me a lot over analogs, but lately I haven't been so lucky with them and they haven't been lasting me like they used to. And on a small battery like that you are charging it more often if that's an issue. Stopped me from smoking and kept me satisfied for a good long time, without any real issues.

I've had few passthrough problems. At work I use a manual vapor4life PT, been solid for 7 months, used a lot. In my car I did replace an auto 808 PT after 4 months, operator error -- I had been jamming it into a console cupholder, making the wire do a 180 degree reversal, eventually I over-stressed the wiring connection going into the tube. Replacement has been running fine for 3 months. The only maintenance is that maybe once every month or so I'll notice the draw get a bit tight, I dunk the connector into isopropyl alcohol and wipe it down to clean out built-up juice.
