I found this chart below online but doesn't it really depends on how much you vape and not the nicotine strength? For example I used to be a social smoker and only smoked when I drink which is every weekend. I go through 1 pack of Marlboro Lights a week. Now I am vaping with 18mg because that is the lowest strength that satisfies me. I still only vape when I drink. So does this mean I am smoking "20 cigs a day"? Is there an app that can take the amount of puffs and the nicotine strength to provide a more accurate calculation?

5- cigarettes a day - 8mg e-liquid or lower
10 cigarettes a day - 11mg e-liquid
20 cigarettes a day - 18mg e-liquid
30 cigarettes a day - 24mg e-liquid
40 cigarettes a day - 36mg e-liquid

I don't think you can accurately compare the two, because of the additives in cigarettes, and how vaping is a different experience for everyone. I go between vaping once in a while with long breaks in between, to chain gaping occasionally.

Is there a reason you need this, or are you just curious?

It's not about the number of cigarettes you smoked, it's about the nicotine hit you got when you smoked them.

I used to smoke Marlboro Lights and for me, 18mg seems the best approximation of what I got from when I was smoking.

Supposedly, each cigarette gives you the amount of nicotine printed on the packet (1mg for Marlb Lights?) - in reality, you're getting more than that from a cigarette due to additives that get the nic into your system much more efficiently than vaping.

This is the reason a lot of us vape more than we smoked (in terms of puffs) since to get that same 'satisfaction' we need more hits from a less efficient delivery method.

TL;DR - vape as much as you need to so as not to smoke :)

If you want a straight comparison though, I'd guess on average most 20-a-day smokers on here use between 2-4ml of e-liquid per day - which means at the same level of 'satisfaction' you'd probably be using the same amount in a week - probably won't work that way though ;)

I don't know that it is that simple to determine how much vaping equals a certain amount of cigs. I've seen people who say they smoked 10-15 cigs a day but vape 24 mg. I smoked about 30 a day and vape mainly 18mg (a little 12-15 when dripping). Everyone's different so I don't think there's a clear cut answer to that one.

Everyone wants a straight answer on this xxmg equals this xx of cigarettes when they first start out vaping

The problem is everyone is different and every vaping device is different on how efficiently it provides vaporized nicotine

find a battery and clearo/tank/carto that works for you regarding flavor satisfaction and then tailor your nic level to that

VV or VV/VW devices make this much easier to do ie: ego twist, vision spinner, innoken vv3, MVP2 etc.

I personally like Protanks and would actually suggest the new Kanger Aerotank as this tank has adjustable air control which also makes a difference in flavor and TH. For a more advanced user I would recommend Provari, Zmax 3 or 5, Vamo and a kayfun lite+

Just because you are vaping 18mg juice doesn't mean you are getting the equivalent of 20 cigarettes.

The chart you found only provides a "starting point" for what mg of liquid new people should start with as most people just starting out want to know where they should start. Once they start vaping they need to adjust to whatever level works for them. :) Few 40 cigarette a day smokes need 36 mg juice to be satisfied, although a few do. There have been many 10 cigarettes per day smokers here on ECF that do need 24 mg juice to be satisfied. We are all different and when we start out the only thing that matters is using whatever mg juice that helps us kick the smoking habit. :)

Don't be misled by these 'the smoke one of cigarette contains xx mg nicotine' values. Technically that may be correct - for a machine puffing away at exactly measured intervals and and exactly measured strengths. If you take a ..., draw on it hard and fast or let half of it smolder away by itself in an ashtray, whether you vape long and continously or take a few deep puffs now and then, the nicotine content of the liquid or of the smoke says little of how much of actually gets into your system. To measure that, you'd have to hook yourself to some fancy and expensive gadgetry to sort of get real-time feed back on the nicotine levels in your blood stream. And a lot of that in turn is influenced by you individual traits.

These levels you're quoting are roundabout numbers based on the collective experience of many vapers, nothing thats carved in stone or based on same exotic calculations.

Chain vapers may opt for low nic liquids, so that they can go on vaping all day. Others may prefer a few hits from hi-level juice every now and then. These are ok value to start with. The rest is between you and the juice :)

A bit experimeting with various strengths should enable you to work out your personal preferences...

Exactly. This.

I smoked upper end of 30 smokes a day, but found 18mg juice too much for me. That's considered "medium" strength when I was usually a heavy smoker. Everyone is different I guess.

I doubt you can compare the vaping to the smoking though, they are different things to me, quite literally.
