I did the online chat and asked if this was protected as I have read not to use protected batteries in a Vamo. They said that it was not protected and should do fine. I have just never seen a blue one before and also they state that its 2800 mah. I would also be using a xtar charger to charge it with.

I just want to see if anyone has ever used a battery like this before.

Thanks!

The question should not be whether the Li-ion battery is protected or not but whether it has the proper chemistry for high current devices like the Vamo or many other VV/VW rigs. The right question is should it be an ICR battery (some are protected) or IMR (which don't need protection circuits on the battery)? The answer is IMR. AW makes IMR, so does E-fest to mention two of the better IMR brands. Both will work fine for most users but the AW will provide more current than the E-fest.

Why shouldn't you use protected batteries in a Vamo? I need to go read up on Vamo's in general, and a little trip to Battery University probably wouldn't hurt either.

The protected batteries have not worked for a number of people with the Vamo. The other, bigger reason, is that the IMR batteries have safer chemistry and are designed for high drain.

Thanks Yzer - I should have explained a bit more - yes. The blue LiCo AW batts are lithium cobalt oxide and more susceptible to thermal runaway. The red AW IMR are the better, safer chemistry and the ones recommended for mods.
