Hey all!

I have a smok AL85 with a TFV8 baby using the X4 coil. It is reading at 0.188 ohms.
I am using it at 50 watts which results at around 3 volts, 17.5 amps. PCB reads at 36C.
My batteries are a Samsung 30Q or a 25R, I rotate them. Is this safe?
It gets really warm and I read around that people don't recommend coils below .3 on single 18650s.
Can I push even more watts?
Assure me please!

With regulated devices the coil resistance doesn't factor into the amp draw. Furthermore, the amp display shows the output amps, not the amp draw at the battery. This is how you calculate the amp draw:

Watts / battery cutoff voltage (the voltage off the battery when you need to recharge) = amps. Multiply the amps by .9 to account for the chip inefficiency.

What is getting really warm?
The battery, the top cap that holds the battery, the body of the power device, the delivery device?
Warm is okay, hot is not.

Everyone has to set their own comfort level/saftey range when using the cells we use.
Just me, 65w is more than I would push any single 20a CDR cell.
I always leave a margin under any cells CDR.

At the low voltage cutoff ( the battery voltage at which your power device stops firing ) amp demand from the battery will be highest.

The tank is the hottest part, the mod gets quite warm. PCB up to around 48c according to the AL85.
I have purchased a Sony VTC5A, it's my understanding that I could safely vape on a single one around 80w no problem.

It is normal for the tank to heat up.
When was the last time you thoroughly cleaned the 510 connections on both the delivery & power device?
Qtip saturated with rubbing alcohol, really scrub the 510 & all threaded areas, paper towel or napkin to ensure everything is clean & shiny.
48c = 118f doesn't sound hot to me.

vtc5a is a 25a cdr cell.

I wouldn't use 80w with a single 25a cell.

My personal battery amp drain saftey limits tend to be on the conservative side.
20a CDR cells 50w - 60w per cell.
25a CDR cells 60w - 75w per cell.
30a CDR cells 75w - 90w per cell.

The mod and tank are almost new, not even 2 weeks old. Still squeaky clean.
I also have an LG HB2 on the way, which is rated for 30A. Perhaps that is more safe at 80-100W? I just want to get the maximum out of the T8/T6 Baby coils. Not a big deal if not, 75W is still a decent vape for me.

My RX200S used to get warm around the top, I suspected atomizer heat sinking into the mod case, so I ordered a 510 heat sink. That solved the problem by dissipating the heat from the atomizer into the air.

Pull the battery cover and check the batteries. They will likely be much cooler than the upper mod case.

Mine looked like this one.
